West Point Administrator Colludes With Leftwing Attack Dog to Smear Pete Hegseth With Completely-False Lie
A leftwing hack from Pro Publica put together a smear on Pete Hegseth claiming that he was never applied to get into West Point, from which he graduated.
Note that that already doesn't even make sense -- you can't graduate from a school you were never applied to get into. But the leftwing reputation-assassins don't need their smears to make sense. Their Soyjack readership just wants to read lies about their enemies. Hegseth found out Pro Publica was about to run this entirely-fabricated smear and published his acceptance letter welcoming him to West Point. The leftwing reputation-assassin now crows, But I didn't actually publish the entirely-fictional smear piece, now that you've pre-emptively disproven it. Voila! My application to USMA took two full years. It included sending West Point my SAT, ACT, fitness tests, and a recommendation from then Rep. Mike Pence. Background checks. Extracurriculars & essays on civics and service. It's why most of us who received our "Big Fat Envelope" offer of admission still hang onto them years & decades later. For some of us, it was a lot of effort. West Point was involved every step of the way. They had documentation of everything. Because there are so few slots for candidates, every application is monitored very closely. For public affairs to state on the record twice with "100%" certainty Hegseth had never applied is either gross laziness or malicious dishonesty. West Point said an employee made a mistake by claiming Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to head the Defense Department, was not accepted into the military academy. An academy spokesperson told The Washington Times on Wednesday that Mr. Hegseth, a retired Army major, was offered acceptance into West Point's class of 2003 but an employee provided a media outlet "an incorrect statement" on Dec. 10 involving his admission, apparently without reviewing an archived database. The employee erroneously told ProPublica that Mr. Hegseth did not even apply to West Point. The publication was preparing to write a story countering Mr. Hegseth's claim he was accepted into the vaunted Army academy.
"The academy takes this situation seriously and apologizes for this administrative error," the West Point directorate of communications said in a statement.

If we are Citizen-Soldiers ? Then nobody should give a flying fuck about West Point. Or Annapolis. Or the Pentagon, frankly.
Any college grad, or any able body, that excels should be able to do so when duty calls and he or she chooses to answer. We shouldn't have to worry about what West Point - if we can get Citizen Soldiers from Tennessee or North Dakota.

I think about 80% of admitted cadets who aren't already at the Prep School show up on Reception Day. Some are also admitted to Navy or Air Force, some also have ROTC scholarships and choose to go that route.

When I was working as a security contractor at Ft Lewis (now JBLM), I met a young man who attended West Point but didn't get his commission. Apparently he was very accident prone / physically delicate. He broke several bones while at the school. So he still had a huge obligation to serve in the Army, but didn't get the golden boy ticket. He was very bitter about this.
I may have got some of the details wrong, it's been a long time.

There is a balance. You have a few army divisions for defense of CONUS, Alaska, Hawaii, and territories. You also have training cadres to bring recruits up-to-speed in case of war.
Navy, Air Force, and Space Force probably need to be kept at higher levels, but with the some of the same limits and training cadres. I'm not sure where to put the Marines in this.
I didn't serve. I did have uncles in the Army, Navy, and National Guard, and cousins in the Navy and Marines.

I do know, however, of one female cadet who had a child. She was a senior, she and the baby's father were both prior service enlisted soldiers with combat in Iraq, they committed to get married on her graduation day (and did), she spent the rest of the academic year at home and came back and re-did her senior year, and they had parents to step in and take care of the baby.

Yes, that can be done. For very qualified people, the academies will recommend them to Congressmen from other districts and even states who don't have enough qualified people. In my experience, the need for a nomination is not a serious problem if a kid is well-qualified and wants to serve.

Re: a professional standing army, means a professional general staff on the Prussian model, which means logistics. Logistics isn't sexy, and you have a tough time earning new fruit salad for your uniform.

Some of their hand soaps are really nice. We have friends who always stock their bathroom with B&BW hand soaps. They smell great, clean your hands nicely, and don't dry out your hands like a lot of lesser hand soaps do.

But all I'm hearing from folks connected to DC is that Gaetz will be the only scalp the Dem/GOPe will get. If you oppose Trump, you will get primaried. Not weird at all, it is a huge amount and paperwork and effort to pursue nomination to West Point.
As to the level and import of the Public Affairs apparatus- it is vital and the PAO has a seat at the commander's table of any organization bigger than a Battalion until last year when they were kicked back up to being a Divisional level asset.
I spent 5 of the last 6 years helping run PAOs, Civil Affairs, and PsyOps officers through their paces....
if the civilian School trained PA decided to shrug and say YOLO on the news inquiry she should be fired.

If the Army is anything like the Navy, those archives can only be viewed by a few people that have been granted specific access. The pao is not typically a person who is on the archive data base access list.

Even before they present candidates to Trump, their past is looked over with a fine tooth comb. By a private company that specializes in that sort of thing. And there is a formal questionnaire that they have to fill out. A lot of vetting.

Her job is to inform command of the request for information and to receive instruction on what to disseminate, a good commander will likely if inclined ask for some insight into the impact of any messaging on a matter.
Her job is not to not get the data and to make an official statement in error, ever.

Not sure that’s true. My nephew had a Congressional appointment to the AF Academy. He was Top 10 from his HS class, captain of the football team, etc. He wasn’t accepted. Did AF ROTC instead. Was Honor Graduate and received an Active Duty AF Commission. Flew F-16s in the ME. Currently a F-35 pilot in Alaska. Up for promotion to O-5 in the spring.
