Transnistria is also a place (part of Moldova across the Dniester River). One of the ethnic Russian sitcheeations (like Latvia), artifact of the Soviet era. 277 253 Presumably Wray resigned because Congress can't compel him to testify. I've never understood that. Why can't Congress compel one to testify about their actions while employed by the Federal gov't?
Posted by: bonhomme ===== Because 5th Amendment and executive privilege depending on the issue. However, Congress is quite capable of subpoenaing and compelling someone to testify. Including regular citizens as necessary if Congress votes to do so. The power to investigate by Congress is an inherent constitutional power but in order for a subpoena to be enforced by punitive court action, it must be tied to some legitimate congressional actions like legislation, oversight of a government agency, etc. rather than simple harassment. Helps if you are a Dem Congress using it to harass GOP members like Navarro and Bannon and have a compliant court system. But, OIG internal investigations means if you want to keep your job, you have to cooperate and cannot assert the 5th. Posted by: whig at December 11, 2024 03:00 PM (ctrM5) 311

>>That included "finding a middle ground" with Mitch on appointments. >>The choice of Vance as VP has shown that Trump is not playing that game anymore. Some of that. But I'd say an even bigger part was not understanding all of the players and all of the ties. Trump was the consummate outsider in 2016. He could barely find people to work on his campaign team and some that did got thrown in prison or came damn close. Nobody wanted to work for Trump the Russian agent in 2016. Trazan of the Apes:
" He was worried because he had not clothing to indicate to all the jungle folks that he was a man and not an ape, and grave doubt often entered his mind as to whether he might not yet become an ape. Was not hair commencing to grow upon his face? All the apes had hair upon theirs but the black men were entirely hairless, with very few exceptions. True, he had seen pictures in his books of men with great masses of hair upon lip and cheek and chin, but, nevertheless, Tarzan was afraid. Almost daily he whetted his keen knife and scraped and whittled at his young beard to eradicate this degrading emblem of apehood. Posted by: bonhomme Yes, you can compel him to show up but charging him like Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon would be problematic given the DC court system bias. Wray can assert executive privilege over some testimony which is then in Trump (or Bidens until Jan 20th) court to agree with assertion or not and he can assert a Fifth Amendment privilege. Congress can grant partial (aka transactional) or total immunity to force an answer (if not covered potentially by executive privilege) but that makes it impossible to later prosecute (see the Poindexter and Oliver North trials and appeals for example). Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump The resignation of Christopher Wray is a great day for America as it will end the Weaponization of what has become known as the United States Department of Injustice. I just don’t know what happened to him. We will now restore the Rule of Law for all Americans. Under the leadership of Christopher Wray, the FBI illegally raided my home, without cause, worked diligently on illegally impeaching and indicting me, and has done everything else to interfere with the success and future of America. They have used their vast powers to threaten and destroy many innocent Americans, some of which will never be able to recover from what has been done to them. Kash Patel is the most qualified Nominee to lead the FBI in the Agency’s History, and is committed to helping ensure that Law, Order, and Justice will be brought back to our Country again, and soon. As everyone knows, I have great respect for the rank-and-file of the FBI, and they have great respect for me. They want to see these changes every bit as much as I do but, more importantly, the American People are demanding a strong, but fair, System of Justice. Sorry, President Trump-
But I'm not convinced that the rank and file has respect for you. These are the guys,-after all-At least some of them- who were dressing up and play acting as neo Nazis and carrying spanking new American flags. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at December 11, 2024 04:20 PM (z9UrO) 430

Larry Lambert who blogs at virtual mirage has a consulting business with offices in several nations.
His office in Greece is reporting a spike in the number of Americans applying for visas after Trump's win. He notes that Greece will not extradite people accused of sex crimes. He, also, noted that Portugal has a similar non-exradition policy re sex crimes and has also seen an up tick in visa applications. IIRC Tom Hanks moved to Greece. There has been talk re Hank's association with Epstein. Trump has said he will release the tapes and files the Fibbies re Epstein. Coincidence? Also, Trump has appointed Guilfoyle as the Ambassador to Greece. Hmmm. Posted by: waepnedmann at December 11, 2024 07:31 PM (pzTmI) 433
