The power to investigate by Congress is an inherent constitutional power but in order for a subpoena to be enforced by punitive court action, it must be tied to some legitimate congressional actions like legislation, oversight of a government agency, etc. rather than simple harassment. Helps if you are a Dem Congress using it to harass GOP members like Navarro and Bannon and have a compliant court system.
But, OIG internal investigations means if you want to keep your job, you have to cooperate and cannot assert the 5th.

Some of that. But I'd say an even bigger part was not understanding all of the players and all of the ties. Trump was the consummate outsider in 2016. He could barely find people to work on his campaign team and some that did got thrown in prison or came damn close.
Nobody wanted to work for Trump the Russian agent in 2016. And the people Trump was given to choose from he likely knew little or nothing about.
All of that is different now. People are fighting to work for Trump and he has a much better idea of who's who.

This is actually a startling admission. In the US, a drone bigger than 0.55 lbs is required to broadcast FAA registered identifying information. Presumably, all they would have to do is point a directional antenna at one of the unknown drones, pick up this info, and trace it to a user. If they do not have this information and have not discovered who is flying the drones at this point, that's remarkable.

They can, Congress even has the inherent authority to hold you via arrest by the Sergeant At Arms (see McGrain v. Daugherty) to answer questions but that does not override someone's 5th Amendment rights. If you can find it, the old McClellan Committee hearings on organized crime (with a young Bobby Kennedy involved) has gangsters recite over and over 5th Amendment invocations to prevent answering.

Yes, you can compel him to show up but charging him like Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon would be problematic given the DC court system bias.
Wray can assert executive privilege over some testimony which is then in Trump (or Bidens until Jan 20th) court to agree with assertion or not and he can assert a Fifth Amendment privilege.
Congress can grant partial (aka transactional) or total immunity to force an answer (if not covered potentially by executive privilege) but that makes it impossible to later prosecute (see the Poindexter and Oliver North trials and appeals for example).

Burroughs would be accounted "rococo" as far as his style goes nowadays (when he wasn't being castigated as a racist and colonialist and worse). But he knew how to tell a compelling story and keep you reading. The first book dates to before WWI.
Jungle Tales has several short stories about the life of the young Tarzan before he met Europeans. Neat stuff.

They were the gateway books to my Science Fiction addiction. My Dad gave me one novel every two weeks to keep me interested.

Ballantine reissued all the original ERB books in order in the early '60s, and my father bought and re-read them all. And passed them on to me. The three volumes I have are from that same edition.
Novel Eight, Tarzan the Terrible, has Tarzan visit a hidden prehistoric world in Africa called Pal-ul-Don, with two species of humanoids with tails and surviving triceratops (called gryfs) wandering about. ERB even developed a language for them, and the book has a glossary.

Never been there, but I've been to Senegal next door, which is wonderful. Great people, great food, beautiful coast. Third world, so don't drink the tap water, but Dakar is on the way to other places.
That said, The Gambia (which is surrounded by Senegal) rivals EG for being a tropical hellhole.

While I thought Swords of Mars (8) and Synthetic Men of Mars (9) were less exciting than the previous installments, they were still well-written, and fascinating for their portrayal of programmable artificial intelligence and a planned economy where the AI took over all manufacturing from men, and robotics, in the early sense of manufacturing men and how the enslaved scientist handled defects in the manufacture of artificial men.
