For the Birds Cafe

World's biggest bird sculpture

It's pronounced KE-ra-la not ke-RA-la, Bigots.

What on earth...

How to build a Roman aqueduct in five easy steps (#3 will shock you).

Penguins engaging in mutual grooming. Gross!

Bird yoga.

Parrot dentistry.

Parrot freak-off.

Rescued lorikeet brings his frenz to meet the woman who saved him.

Ministry of silly bird walks.

This bird is as bad as a cat.

Tense negotiations.

Freaky Exorcist-like head turning from this possessed owl.

The gratitude of an adopted doggo.

Rescuer wriggled through the mud to save an eagle trapped in it.

Hawk tries to nab kitten but is stopped by strange invisible force field.

Inman:

Pigeon vs. cat.

Eagle receiver.

Classic Karens gone wild.

I can't believe someone dug up this old clip of me at my 7th grade talent show.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer.

35 Runner, it's hard to know. I loved Candace Owens when she came on the scene, and I like her pop culture takes. But something is off with her and I don't know what. I don't get the "edgy lo-fi antisemitism" takes on things she has. It's jarring.

I didn't like Stephen Crowder upsetting the apple cart when he revealed the hiring practices and contract details of the DW. But now that cute little Brett Cooper is getting steamrolled by the DW -- and to dig the knife in, they are having her producer /bff/maid of honor take over her show, and gave her acting lessons to sound like Brett, plus a plum contract -- it's all just too gross. No wonder Brett had a cryptic post on X about chilling with her loving husband and watching comfort dragon ball z. You gotta do what you gotta do to push through the upheavals.

It vindicates Crowder for going on the warpath against DW. Which, just be better DW. It also vindicates Candace Owens for having a public falling out with DW.

36 Ayatollah gave his talk today on recent developments. About as one would expect. Tehran's regional strategery is in shambles, or worse, it's been one body blow after another. So he sticks with basics like non-credible fulminations and laughable happy talk.

As he spoke, key Euros OK'd "snapback" of sanctions related to nuclear proliferation by Iran. This is sort of a big deal. And incoming NSA Waltz made it clear in an interview that there would be a return to "maximum pressure" in a few weeks. Rough times for the turbans in Tehran.

58 I've loved Melania's recent interviews. Love the book design: streamlined, nonfussy, demure, like her. Glad it's done well and gives her some vindication.

Apparently she kept Be Best up after leaving the WH by making it a big push for helping foster kids. It helps get them educated and find a new chance at life after leaving the system. Very laudable. And maybe her stint as FLOTUS, and having to decorate the WH rubbed off on her in a positive way. She has done a series of Christmas ornaments the past few years, which are sold on her site, and the money made from the ornaments goes to her foster program.

Brava. Classy lady.

The solution was to actually tell people when they'd be overflying the land owned by the university that was next to where these people were living, and what the flights were for.

The factory appeared to have a wide variety of items (machines, building materials, decorative ceramics) in which captagon pills are smuggled. There are guesstimates that the former regime had a $5B bidness going in captagon, which was plenty to afford the posh residences and playgrounds that are also being discovered and video'd.

I had to put down a Star Trek I had liked whilst younger - My Enemy, My Ally.

One is not accidentally beamed into Baltimore Harbor and then emerge alive.

Could not keep straight the names of two Romulan ships in the span of a few pages. First it was Wildfire, then Battlequeen, and then Wildfire again.

Lot of techno-babble about communications security. And the need for subterfuge.

Romulans have developed a way to create ion storms to blank out sub-pace. Just so they can kidnap Vulcans to turn them into puree to make Romulan Senators Mentats.

NORAD and the Space Force now track around 30,000 pieces of space junk in orbit. This is stuff like a lost glove and crap like that.

So, yeah, they know exactly what those Jersey drones are. Whose are they? Theirs. Secret testing program for something.

And part of that test may be the public reaction. Let's see, how long does it take people to notice and and what do they do.

But I learned earlier today that shooting a drone/UAV is covered under the same laws as airline terrorism. Not just a discharge of a firearm in a city.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Julian Hatcher's experiments in the 1940s found that a standard .30 caliber bullet fired straight up could reach an altitude of 9,000 feet (2,743.2 meters) and return to Earth at a speed of 300 feet (91.4 meters) per second during its descent.

The bullets used in those experiments were not boat-tailed. Since most hunting rounds these days use boat-tailed bullets, the expected altitude would be higher than 9,000 feet.

250 https://science.howstuffworks.com/question281.htm

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Julian Hatcher's experiments in the 1940s found that a standard .30 caliber bullet fired straight up could reach an altitude of 9,000 feet (2,743.2 meters) and return to Earth at a speed of 300 feet (91.4 meters) per second during its descent.

Why haven't they been ID'd?

252 So it becomes a game of ballistic science.

Back in the day, shooting ground bullets up in the air had to be BIG...(think WWII) stuffed with an explosive and some metal shrapnel and the ability to damage planes way up over us that were trying to bomb us.

Fast forward to our "DRONE" issue

Design a gun that shots to a pre-set altitude with a smaller round but in the same configuration as the early days of "FLAK". We do have the tech for that.

267 Kinetic devices are not necessary to down a drone.

Most modern anti-drone "weaponry" is electronic counter measures. Flooding the airwave with frequencies drone typically use will render them useless.

A primitive example from years ago... a DJI drone I owned operated on a frequency very close to cordless phones. If we got a phone call while I was out flying it... I'd lose control. Silly... but true.

So... with a bit of sleuthing anyone with a radio background, a scanner or SDR would know what frequency these drones were operating on... and if so desired, jam them by flooding their frequencies with garbage.

Like hogging a CB channel with gibberish.

A true drone does not emit. It has programmed points already loaded into it and it will fly to those locations, based on GPS or even inertial navigation.
A Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is piloted. Civilian systems have specific frequencies that can be jammed. Military grade will usually use frequency hopping radios, or satellite linkages.

-------
Not true.

An operator in a room, a CONEX container, whatever who is actually "flying" the drone is in comms with it. Two way. So, it is emitting... it has to. Or crash.

But, yea... you can preprogram a drone to fly a predetermined flight path.

And in either case... if telemetry is being recorded for replay and/or transmission... like sending video... the drone is emitting.

Whether it's secure/scrambled/encrypted it's still emitting. You just can't read the data.

And if it's using GPS... it's trackable... like your car or phone.

You are not wrong. But technically, a true "drone" is a fire and forget system. It can do its mission by collecting and storing whatever it is collecting (Imagery, SIGINT, etc.) and download once it returns. But if it is sending what it collects, then yes, it is emitting.
