- The Raspberry Pi 500 is here for $90. (Liliputing)
The Pi 500 is to the Pi 5 what the Pi 400 was to the Pi 4. That is, it's a computer in a keyboard based on the Raspberry Pi 5.
It's twice as fast as the Pi 4 and has twice as much memory. It's capable enough for basic computing and not just a novelty.
It also almost has an M.2 slot. Which is to say it doesn't have one at all, but it has a place where one could go. In theory.
The existing Pi 400 has received a price cut to $60.
The Pi 500 will be available in a kit including a mouse and power supply for $120.
At the same time Raspberry Pi announced a 15" 1080p monitor for $100.

- Indie game hub Itch.io got taken offline because some kid uploaded a fan page for a Funko Pop game. (Torrent Freak)
Funk Pop apparently uses a third-party service which acts like a rabid badger whenever it spots the term "funko" anywhere. To make matters worse, Itch's domain registrar is kind of stupid.
- Intel's Arc B580 looks like a strong competitor at its price point. (Tom's Hardware)
Compared with Nvidia's 4060, AMD's 7600, and Intel's own previous generation A750, the B580 wins pretty consistently - and also offers more memory.

If you believe your opponents are Nazis, there's really nothing you can't justify doing to them. That's a rational enough thought process, even if their underlying view of the evidence is wildly false.

I still think one of the most tragic things I saw during covid were two things:
1) I was walking Ajax on a perfect sunny day. I was walking down a sidewalk and on the opposite side of the street was an older couple, hand in hand. No one in 20 feet of them, just enjoying each other's company. Both masked.
2) In the grocery store. A woman and daughter (maybe 16 or 17.) The Mom was not masked. The young girl was. What the hell?

Anybody who did the slightest research, even during the height of the hysteria, knew this. Even if the mask weren't a "petri dish on your face," the weave was far too open to block any virus.

One of my college roommates (40 years ago) -- a good Christian (I was an a-theist at the time) -- asked me once if I would rather die before my future wife or vice-versa.

We both went through our illnesses at the same time. Wife would have the argument of who should go first, and neither one of us wanted to be the survivor. Sepsis due most likely to the intestinal abscess brought me in the last three times. Draining and antibiotics/antifungal was just not enough. When latest CAT scan showed adhesion between colon abscess and small intestine, the choice was obvious: surgery or die. Seems like a Hobson's choice.

Oddly, the Coof in late 2019 began in one of my facial sinuses -- I thought I was developing a toothache -- and then spread into my nose and head. I never go the scratchy throat, which has always heralded my colds or flu, just like this past Saturday night. Compared to late 2019, this is pretty mild. I *could* function at work -- but I don't see any reason why I should have to put up with sniffling and sneezing throughout a long day. And yes, I'd probably spread it to someone else.

Funny story for you... I'd had plans to fly long before 9/11 happened, so I found myself at the airport about a week after, headed for a conference.
National Guard were posted to the security stations in the airport I was flying out of and they had weapons held at the front, pointing down and left. (This is a lot more effective at getting people's attention and making them want to play nice than the TSA's current nonsense.)
Anyhow, I've got someone from the NG standing about 6 feet behind me, while a lady from security checks me over, and asks me to remove everything from my pockets, remove my western boots, and also remove my belt.
At that last request, I asked, "Uh... Are you sure about the belt? In the rush to get here at oh-dark-hundred this morning I can't remember if I put on underwear or not, and if I remove my belt, pants may fall down, and y'all might find out if I'm going commando today or not."
Security lady gives me that exasperated look, while the fellow in the National Guard just lets out a snort of laughter. I look back over my shoulder grinning and he just nods at me also smiling. Made his day. :-)

Me? I always wear a coat and tie to Mass. Not many of the other men do. It has also become distractingly painful for me to kneel, so I sit on the bench in the back.
The way I look at it, we're the Mystical Body of Christ. By wearing a coat and tie, I do it for all the other guys there. By kneeling through the long Canon of the Mass, the other congregants are doing it for me.

Eh, it comes and goes. I don't always have a black cloud over my head, but when it's there, it's paralyzing. I've been stuck in the middle of my new book for a couple of months now and my current anti-depressants aren't doing a thing. Also, I don't like this time of year and wish I could lock the doors and draw the shades and not come out until spring.
Add to that the usual self-loathing and it's no wonder I wish I were back in bed instead of waiting for work to start coming in.

Here's my airplane story:
On a trip to Hong Kong, I had to grab ALL the luggage and run to the next terminal, which had changed to the other side of the airport (of course). When we finally got to Hong Kong, my leg and hip were bothering me a little, but I ignored it. Day before we had to fly back, the pain was too much, so saw an herbalist and chiropractor who worked on me until a sickening cracking noise came from my hip. She said I'd jammed my leg into the hip socket and it would get worse if I ever did it again. She put this Gawd-aweful smelling ointment on it and told me I couldn't take it off for 24 hours. So I fly back to the states wearing this stinky ointment the entire flight. When we landed @ LAX, as I was deplaning, a steward tells a stewardess, "There's that smell again! I told you it wasn't me!".

Oh, yeah. You had to be pretty sick to miss an on-air shift at the radio stations I worked at. Later, when I was delivering for Purolator, they had an incentive policy: You got N sick leave days a year (five, I think), and any of them you hadn't used, you got paid for in Dec. A kind of Xmas bonus. So we had an incentive to work even when sick.

People of average IQ become supergeniuses, the retarded achieve average intelligence, etc. In an opening scene, a rabbit figures out how to open the trap he's in.

I once ducked out of the airport to kick a butt, and got stuck in a downpour. Entire shirt was soaked, nothing to change into. Went though the scanner thing, and the agent started moving the screen around and showing everybody.... entire torso lit up opaque, at least two dozen "ALERT" scary red boxes on it... of course, being in a wet t-shirt, it was clearly visible that i didn't have anything strapped to me.
