Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Bulwark: Now That Hispanics Are Not Voting for the Democrat Party, the True Conservative (TM) Position Is To Deport Their Unapprovedly-Diverse AssesPreviously he claimed that deporting illegal aliens, when Hispanics were voting for Democrats by a 70-30 split, was just fascism. His principles demanded he denounce this monstrous Nazi-like demand for a racially-pure country. Now that Hispanics are more or less divided between Republicans and this True Conservative (TM)'s precious Democrat Party, while rich, privileged white liberals like himself vote 65-35 Democrat, he's decided the new True Conservative (TM) position is to deport these subversive vermin. From Bluesky Libs:![]() David Strom: Jonathan Last is the Editor of The Bulwark, a NeverTrump magazine whose sales pitch is that it represents pre-Trump conservatism. Many of us have been skeptical that NeverTrumpers as a group are actually still conservatives at all if they ever were. Some clearly were, some remain a version of conservative, and many are now unapologetic Democrats who toe the party line no matter what. I think we can safely say that Last fits into that category. This, I think, reminds us that, for many, politics has less to do with ideology or policy preferences than cultural affinity groups, and over the past decade and a half, the parties have exchanged coalitions, with the Democrats becoming the party of the overly educated and the Republicans the party of the working class. The Democrat coalition has always been more transactionally based than the Republicans, and Last's argument is that Democrats should abandon the fight for open borders because the voters the party gets from its support of them are no longer in their pocket. I have two observations about this: the first is important for understanding how Democrats conduct and see elections, and the second and perhaps more significant for understanding the current Democratic Party's long-term problems and the nature of their coalition. The first and most obvious fact is that Last basically admits that the push for open borders was entirely about elections. His argument is that, since Hispanics and even illegal immigrants are no longer a voting bloc, the party should abandon them. This admission should be damning, but Last doesn't even seem to understand that admitting that Democrats have counted on illegal votes to win elections is a bad thing. I don't think this admission is that significant, though, because, at some level, we all knew that. It is the most obvious explanation for why Democrats have been so dedicated to open borders--they see it as electorally advantageous, so they are willing to sacrifice Americans' well-being for electoral success.Strom has more. I'd point out that Last is also revealing that his constant claims that his policy positions are based on "principles" is and always has been the lie of a femmy narcissist with a sociopath's desire to control people through shameless lies and manipulation. This describes almost the entirety of the NeverTrump dead-enders: feminine men (and some masculine women) who have never been able to distinguish themselves through the normal masculine ways of doing so. They've always been wormy cowards who advanced themselves through lies, smears, and manipulations well-known to particularly conscienceless 13-year-old mean girls. These Mean Girls In Weakling Men's Bodies collectively had a nervous breakdown and went genuinely mad when they learned that their sociopath's checklist of skills and aptitudes was being rejected and they could not control the people they had long abused. The craven and mentally-unstable AllahPundit recently admitted that his who "Muh Principbuhlzzz" stance was a lie: Joe Biden's pardon of Hunter Biden has landed at an awkward moment for classical liberals, when many of us are transitioning from caring a lot about civic norms to caring not at all. Where you are in that transition will determine how outraged you feel about the president's act of clemency. If you haven't yet fully shed your idealism about America following Donald Trump's reelection, you're disgusted. If you have, you're wondering why the Biden family shouldn't exploit the country's regnant postliberalism to serve its own ends. I must be near the midpoint of the transition because I see it both ways.Ah. He's transitioning to what he would call unprincipled fascism. He's defending the Bulwark's and Dispatch's defense of Biden's constant lies, claiming that it's now okay to be cynical. In other words, it's okay for Biden to lie about the pardon because it's Trump -- not the neoliberal Regime that subverted democracy for 8 years -- who is to blame for everyone else's cynicism and norms-breaking. And AllahPundit's okay with that. He sees the wisdom in that side. After preening for eight years that everything he said was based on Principle and Sacred Duty. These were his principles, he lectured us for 8 years, and he could do no other but live them. And now Biden pardons Hunter and he shrugs and goes "Well Trump's a bad guy so everything is justified." It was nominally a Democrat/leftwing political point to oppose illegal immigration. Hell, Hillary Clinton was arguing for more border enforcement in the 2016 election. The completely open borders argument really only started under Biden even if Obama also left the borders open.

They are going to eliminate any benefits, stop funding NGO’s, pull any free legal support, shut down the apps, and go after any state that doesn’t cooperate by yanking funding. There are also going to be issues such as mandatory e-verify, and verification of citizenship by the states for all federally funded services.

I was discussing politics with a co-worker today and we hit upon this topic. I mentioned that I believe one of the "markers along the highway to hell" (we didn't call it that, but we knew what we were talking about) was when Nancy Pelosi taunted "You'll have to pass the bill to know what's in it". At that point, anyone who was half-way paying attention HAD to have noticed the equivalent of "Golly, perhaps these people DON'T love us nor want what's best for us." Of course, I'd suggest that when the entire Democratic party turned its head and looked the other way when Clinton took advantage of an intern and their only defense was "everybody does it" THAT was a full two decades earlier and should have been the wake-up call for decent people. So, I've finished assembling the 3D Printed ball vise.
My impressions are that it is a neat concept but the overall utility of the vice is drastically limited due to the nature of the 3D printed jaws. Because the vise jaw mechanism is a 100mm fine dot pitch screw, it takes forever to open and close the jaws, also the plastic jaws/clamps on the vise can't really apply enough clamping force to do real work. It's really only good to do what the authors real intent was... Paint small figurines. For that, this is the setup for you. There are people who have developed mounting plates to attach real, small form factor metal vises to the ball mechanism, I might give that a shot. It does does work nicely as a demo show piece though but not so much as something that can do real work. It's a shame as it takes a lot if time to print, build out. And it's quite costly because most people are not going to have the assortment of metric bolts needed to assemble the unit. Posted by: Thomas Bender at December 09, 2024 05:24 PM (XV/Pl) 208

228 > And they messed it up, overpromised, or were limited by what type of surgery and docs insurance would paid for, and the kid was looking at eternal agony and lack of sports ability and a lifetime of anti-depressants to make him forget the pain?
Doctors mess up surgeries all the time. My sister had surgery to fix both of her flat feet. Both surgeries were performed by the same team on the same day. One of the surgeries had a near perfect result. The other one was botched. My sister has frequent pain in that foot and it's still flat. I hate that I have slightly mixed feelings about the UHC guy being murdered. I can't condone the act nor can I in all likelihood sympathize with the gunman's probable ideological motivations. On the other hand, I struggle with generating sympathy for a high-level part of the quasi-fascist oligarchy that runs such a large chunk of the economy and fucks a lot of people in the process. I fucking hate that it has come to this and that this is even a discussion in my mind.

MLB broke their own DH rule (changed it) so Ohtani could pitch and DH for himself.
Posted by: steevy at December 09, 2024 05:39 PM (KQk9m) I don't know that that is breaking any rule. Just because you CAN use a DH doesn't mean you must. Posted by: Somewhere along the way things got really fucked at December 09, 2024 05:48 PM (olf63) People die all the time, and you don't have to feel sympathy for each one. It's possible to see a news story of a car crash or earthquake somewhere, realize that people died, and go right on eating your corn flakes. What distinguishes a moral stance from an immoral one is condoning violence, cheering it on, and sitting back when you can do something about it. So yeah, there are kids with cancer dying right now. I can feel for them more than an exec making $10 mil a year in the insurance industrial complex. Especially if... IF that exec gets his jollies denying their claims. Posted by: Oldcat at December 09, 2024 05:54 PM (n7h9X) I'm not sure, but I think it was a rule. Once the DH came in, you had to use two different players. Posted by: BurtTC at December 09, 2024 05:58 PM (dGCAG) 346

Not breaking it now but they changed it. When he pitches he does not bat as a pitcher because you can't opt out. He is the DH. They changed the rule for him.

302. I mean, insurance is now ignoring NCCN guidelines, which is supposed to be impossible for cancers...but they don't want to be stuck with the bills from those in their 40s for decades with the known improved care, so they are trying to shorten life if they can...
Posted by: Nova Local I hated Florida & several of its programs for years when my mom & sister died 6 days apart in 'sister' assisted living sites in 2015; my mother from pneumonia (and "lack of quality of life"), my sister - much younger than I -from terrible medical care for 20 years after she was found to have two huge tumors - one a pituitary & the other on an optic serve because routine f/u care to ensure they weren't recurring (they did) was expensive. I travelled the East Coast for years trying to help, monitor their medical care, even became a payee representative. (I couldn't afford to bring them north & care for both.) Yes, they died because they were taking up valuable space. I saw it with a few of my friends who did not appear to be afforded enough time or care to deal with various cancers. Government, especially w/i many states, are prime controllers & that's where we must concentrate. 🙏 Posted by: L - Rooster today, feather duster tomorrow.. at December 09, 2024 06:00 PM (NFX2v) 349
