Now be careful. What this lunatic judge did was utterly unprecedented, by 'dismissing' a charge that was deadlocked.
My understanding is that because he dismissed it WITHOUT PREJUDICE, theoretically the prosecutor could file the same charge again and drag him into court again. Or file charges and require him to spend tens of thousands more on lawyers to fight it to get it actually dismissed with prejudice. Remember, the process is the punishment. Although this seems to fuel the reports that Juror Double Mask was the only holdout for guilty.
It's so odd. There's zero logical consistency for holding out for guilty on the greater charge and yet finding not guilty on the lesser charge, if you were actually looking at evidence and not just a leftist NPC. Particularly with how fast they came back with this verdict. Seems like the judge's ridiculous shenanigans with basically demanding a guilty verdict was too much even for Juror Double Mask. Update: Some commenters are saying he could still be re-tried on the count of manslaughter 2 that was dismissed (on the motion of the prosecution) on Friday. No. Once a jury is empaneled, double jeopardy attaches. A mistrial can be retried because it's a mistrial -- no true trial occurred, as no verdict was rendered -- but once the jury is empaneled, a dismissal is a dismissal with prejudice. He's free and clear on these charges forever. Also, he's free and clear on these facts. In other words, the prosecutors cannot take the same facts at trial here and spin out another new charge. They are barred from bringing up new charges based on the same facts if they could have brought them up in a prior trial. They may try to find some other facts they can make charges on to persecute him, but he is now free and clear on these charges and any other charges arising from these facts. Unsubstantiated allegations from 40 years ago, a mere accusation is enough to ruin someone’s life. This is what Leftists have wrought in society. No due process. No right to face accuser. No presumption of innocence. The state must not prove guilt, it is up to the accused to prove innocence. This is a reversion to the mean. Retardation. Brought To You by Academia. 184 The explanation for the Judges lawless action on Friday, when he should have declared a mistrial - I think he hoped for this to happen. This is way better than a mistrial, now none of it can come back. Posted by: Tom Servo ----------------- Perhaps, deep down, he was hoping this would be the result. He may get the outcome he prefers and keep his liberal bona fides. Posted by: SH (no more socks) at December 09, 2024 12:02 PM (sX1BW) And even better for the Judge, even though he was just making up law on Friday and doing ridiculous things (Like releasing the jury unsequestered for the weekend) there will never be any appeal, and he doesn't have to worry about being overturned. Penney certainly won't appeal a dismissal, and the Prosecution can't. So the Judge got away with it. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 09, 2024 12:22 PM (wyMQY) 78

A man in Pennsylvania is being questioned in connection to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, police sources tell CBS News New York.
A source close to the investigation said that a person of interest was being questioned about the murder after Pennsylvania authorities took him into custody on an unrelated incident in Altoona. Over the weekend, NYPD continued to search Central Park for clues, specifically the weapon used to gun down Thompson outside the Hilton Midtown hotel on Dec. 4. After Thompson's murder, police identified a person of interest who they said used a fake New Jersey ID to check into a hostel on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The person being questioned in Pennsylvania was in possession of a gun with a silencer and a fake New Jersey driver's license, sources said. Posted by: SMOD at December 09, 2024 12:25 PM (kwMr5) 106

The entire strategy behind Soros backing prosecutors like Bragg, is to sow discord among the people. He has deliberately turned the citizens against each other and stoked the flames of racism and hatred to do it. Most of the “protesters” are also paid by his front groups, meanwhile the DoJ either helps behind the scene or at best is apathetic to their actions.

I think it might be time to adopt the left's rulez as they apply to criminals set free... hunt them down. Daniel Penny wasn't ever a criminal, and the left is going to pin that on him forever anyway.
So, when a criminal is set free by a leftist judge it means they need to be harassed, hunted and allowed no peace. Cuz them's the rulez. And those rulez should apply equally to the judges, DA's, lawyers, law enforcement, jurors and anyone else who's bastardizing the legal system. A man was being questioned Monday in connection with last week’s killing of a top health insurance executive on a New York street, US media reported, as a nationwide hunt for the suspect continued.
He was quizzed by police in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after being found with a distinctive weapon like that used in the brazen shooting of Brian Thompson, NBC News and others reported. The man was spotted in a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, a town 300 miles (500 kilometers) west of New York, by someone who tipped off the authorities, The New York Times reported. He also had fake IDs similar to those used by the killer ahead of the slaying, the outlet added, reporting that New York detectives were headed to Altoona. Police have been looking into the possibility that the shooter used a long-barrel veterinary gun — normally used to euthanize animals — to commit the murder. "Content warning -- it's a bum lying on the seats pissing freely on to the subway floor."
My one and only trip to Chicago was in December 1998 as a 22 year old. My best friend graduated the year before I did and moved to downtown, and I flew up to hang out for New Year's. He had a couple of days where he couldn't get off work so I explored the city. I mostly walked at first but it was frigid (shocking, right?!) and I started riding the trains. Until exactly this happened to me with the wino passed out in the seat in front of me. I smelled the piss before I saw it and had to yank my feet up in the air so the river of piss didn't splash all over my Docs. That was the moment where I realized I didn't want to live in a huge downtown area. Posted by: radar at December 09, 2024 12:50 PM (BRML0) 319

I fully confess to enjoying black Olives on a Pizza. Usually a sausage pairing, and onion. Perhaps a Red onion, and this is a nice change from Pepperoni.

My wife uses some in her homemade mac 'n cheese. Helps get the other, mostly dry cheeses to get creamy. I think there's like 4 different cheeses in it.
Posted by: Martini Farmer at December 09, 2024 12:56 PM (Q4IgG) ----------------------------------------------- A tip you may or may not know about melting cheese for mac n cheese, dips, etc - don't use packaged shredded cheese for it. They use an additive to keep it from clumping which makes it melt in globs. Buy a block and grate it yourself. More work obviously but the results will be much better. > Make a good roux and use half and half or milk, evaporated or what have you. That right there will get you good mac and cheese. But you’re not done!
I have never made roux. When I watch videos online, they make it look either really easy, or really hard. The comments are always full of people telling the video maker they're doing it wrong. I've basically come to the conclusion that you need someone to show you how and to make critiques if you're doing it right or wrong. Because I don't know anyone who can do that for me, I've never tried. Posted by: bonhomme at December 09, 2024 01:00 PM (Odg76) 384

Yep, the secret of Velveeta is the melting property.
Even if you disdain, keep some under the sink or whatever, to help achieve a eutectic response to melting less melty cheeses in the recipe. One thing I’ve leaned with cooking, don’t try to like something because somebody told you should. By the same token don’t turn your nose up on stuff they tell you to either.
