The Morning Report — 12/9/24

Pennymedal.jpg

Good morning kids. Obviously the big news is the collapse of the Basher Assad regime in Syria. While it is certainly satisfying when a bloody tyrant and his thugs bite the dust. Lest we forget that the "rebels" who overthrew them are not Luke Skywalker and Company nor George Washington and the continentals. While Assad and before him his father and their Baath Party were Muslim, they raped, pillaged, plundered and waged war, primarily against the state of Israel mostly for their own personal and semi-secular political benefit. For sure they hated Jews as well as Chrstians and other non-Muslim minorities like the Kurds, as a means of ingratiating themselves with the rest of the Muslim world, especially post-Shah Iran. Syria had been and when the dust settles, may yet remain a forward base for the mullahs in their war to eradicate Israel. I assume that this rebel group, the heretofore little known Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) will no doubt seek arms and assistance from Iran to continue to wage Jihad primarily against Israel and with 1,500 years of Islam already in the books, written with the blood of thousands of its victims, the ultimate goal is world domination.

I am not optimistic. HTS is certainly not going to establish a "pluralistic democracy." They have no guiding democratic principles to steer the new regime toward tolerance and power-sharing.

The Syrian people may not realize it now, but they've just exchanged one brutal tyrant for a fanatical, brutal tyrant. I would suggest that Western governments think long and hard before sending the hundreds of billions of dollars needed to rebuild the country.

"Pluralistic democracy?!" Comedy Gold!! The Syrian people are mere spectators, and sadly many are victims of the Assads as well as their own Imams and Mullahs. For me, it's a big stretch to assume that there is some percentage let alone a majority that wants a just and peaceful society and who are willing to live in peace with Israel, let alone the Christians and Kurds and other ethnic/religious minorities within their own borders? Sorry but these innocent people, are going to have to sort out their own affairs for themselves. Put down the shisha pipe and stop getting high on the Koran and the other hatreds and prejudices passed down in their collective bloodstream since time immemorial.

This veteran of Afghanistan totally gets it:

When analyzing our Islamic extremist enemies, it is important for the American people to understand the tribal mindset that so many of our enemies come from. Islam developed from tribal cultures, and many tribal cultures over the past 1,400 years developed under Islam. The Islamic world itself is divided into what I would describe as tribes; you have the Sunni tribe, the Shia tribe, and within that are thousands of other tribes, one of the most recent being the “Palestinian” tribe which has become somewhat of a self-appointed identity by various lost members of other tribes. But in Afghanistan, tribalism is at a level that is virtually unparalleled in the world.

It is human nature to coalesce together into groups, but when you add Islam to the mix, it fuels different dynamics that are completely alien to Westerners. The tribal mindset is so vastly different than our own that it often makes it impossible to reason with them, and they will not respond logically or rationally as you might assume an American or other Westerner would. To Westerners, the tribal mindset may contain many elements that are quite shocking and deeply disturbing. . .

. . . Most people there got it. But back in Washington, and among so many in the higher ranks in the military trying to please those in Washington, there was a complete disconnect from the reality on the ground, and a complete misunderstanding of just who our enemy is, how they think, and how ferociously determined they are.

The title of his essay says it all "People Who Fought In Afghanistan Know Why Nation-Building Was Never Going To Work."

I hope and pray that President-elect Donald Trump and his advisers get this as well. As CBD and I discussed on the latest episode of the podcast, In many corners of the globe, our foes seem to be preemptively realizing that they are going to have to start behaving. Of course, Islam being Islam, nasty surprises are likely going to come our way regardless of who is in office.

By the way, lest we forget it was the covert gun-running scheme of Obama, Clinton, McCain and others to "rebels" in Syria from our embassy in Benghazi, that ultimately resulted in the brutal deaths of four of our embassy staffers, that the aforementioned let die so that their criminal enterprise would not be expsosed. G-d bless their memory and may justice be served to Obama, Clinton , McCain and everyone else involved.

Meanwhile, for something completely different, vis a vis the cold-blooded murder of the United Healthcare CEO last week and some of the reactions to it.

On Friday, I wrote: The sick irony here is that the insurance industry, like much of the healthcare industry was essentially completely devoured by the US government with the passage of Obamacare in 2010.

To which a commenter, who shall remain nameless, replied:

That almost sounds apologetic toward the insurance industry -- but who is it who wrote Obamacare? Oh, the Dems porked it up past the gills, but the fundamental legislation was the dream sheet of medical insurance, fully giving them a mandate, enforceable under the law, that everyone MUST use their product. The insurance industry was not devoured by Obamacare; they set the friggin' table for it.

While I cannot argue with this, it is in no way apologetic to the Insurance industry. But much like the pros in the propaganda press, the commenter cherry picked one line, and ignored the entire paragraph:

The sick irony here is that the insurance industry, like much of the healthcare industry was essentially completely devoured by the US government with the passage of Obamacare in 2010. So that only compounded their inherent, and primarily government-caused flaws prior to that date, via the vast bureaucratic garbage that lines the pockets of politicians, bureaucrats and go-along-to-get-along C-suite denizens in the aforementioned industries along with of course Big Pharma. Here's your fascism, Leftists, right here! Get it while it's hot. Pro-tip, it's not Trump. It's Democrats and RINOs pointing the gun of big government power at the head of business and forcing them in bed with them. Sadly, some don't need the threat and are eager to play the part of [the Krupps, et al] to the real literal Hitlers in this re-enactment of pre-1933 election Germany.

To reiterate, Here's your fascism, Leftists. Since they are baying for the blood of Insurance company executives, funny how they don't see that it's the Dept. of HHS that regulates them like every other industry out the Wah-zoo. That makes HHS the real CEO. Is it cruel and amoral to shakedown the critically ill or deny claims, even if it means cutting into the bottom line just because HHS won't back you or will push you if you defy them? of course. Is it justifiable or moral to gun down someone in cold blood? NO!

Yes, the insurance companies created the mess, with the eager assistance of venal pols looking to wet their beaks ages ago, then jumped into bed with Obama and his minions willingly or otherwise when they should've defied him, regardless of the consequences. It's yet another example of moral and cultural rot, which is not as in your face yet just as corrosive as what comes out of the lecture halls, faculty lounges, Hollywood sound stages and TV newsrooms. Indeed, the past 60 or more years of the latter is what led to the former in the C-Suites.

Regardless of whatever dire medical circumstances the shooter found himself or his loved one in and denied coverage, there can be zero tolerance nor justification for cold-blooded murder.

Okay, basta cosi on that. I'm very happy to say that someone else has publicly picked up on another brainwave I had in the past week or so:

Despite there being a hung jury on the manslaughter charge against subway “vigilante” Daniel Penny, the charge of criminally negligent homicide still remains on the ledger for the jury to decide.

In light of all that, Rep. Eli Crane (R-Ariz.) has taken it upon himself to introduce a House Resolution to award Penny with a Congressional Gold Medal for “his heroism.”

“A BILL To award a Congressional Gold Medal to Daniel Penny, who protected women and children of the city of New York, New York, from violence on May 1, 2023,” the introduction to the HR reads.

Daniel Penny’s actions exemplify what it means to stand against the grain to do right in a world that rewards moral cowardice. I’m immensely proud to introduce this resolution to award him with the Congressional Gold Medal to recognize his heroism.

Give one to Kyle Rittenhouse too.

And Donald Trump is likely to grant a mass pardon of all the J-6 political prisoners still languishing in and/or had their lives destroyed by the Garland Archipelago for the mere act of first amendment protected speech and the right to peacefully protest.

That thug with a badge Michael Byrd who committed actual murder – at the behest of Nancy Pelosi and whoever else with malice aforethought opened the Capitol doors, in shooting an unarmed and passive Ashli Babbit to death and the unidentified goons of the Capitol PD and/or DoJ who stomped and choked Roseanne Boyland to death go free and are feted as heroes is abhorrent in the extreme.

let justice roll on like a river, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Have a great day.

Makes too much sense. The lawyers' response will be that a civil case has a lower burden of proof. Which does not change the fact that if a jury found Perry, e.g., not guilty of the criminal charge, then that should mean he did not do the act in question.

It is critically important that these things happen. They must happen because the American people must become accustomed to these things happening... and THAT must happen because this is EXACTLY the way that single-payer works.

TPTB want the idiot voters to clamor for single-payer because of all these perceived flaws in the system while never considering that the 'solution' will fix none of them.

58 The argument for Trump to make an EO about Birthright Citizenship is that of course it will be overturned immediately by the first judge that hears the case, but then that would give SCOTUS the opportunity to rule on it. I think tlhst is a weak, long shot move. Far stronger to go through Congress. The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 shows that there is precedent for Congress to define rules of citizenship under the 14th Amendment, and that is how this problem should be addressed.

73 Joni Ernst… ugh. She seems like one of those women that hate men. Her big concern for the military is that women “get opportunities” whatever that means. She seems to viscerally hate Hegseth because he’s an alpha who’s been with lots of women. She claims she was sexually assaulted…. Has that ever been confirmed or is it just a talking point? I don’t wanna minimize it if it actually happened…. Oh and didn’t she introduce herself in politics by bragging about castrating pigs? Reveling in castration seems like another man-hating move. {{ In a controversial move, the Biden administration has granted Iraq a new 4-month waiver, enabling the release of billions of dollars to Iran, blocked by US sanctions.

The decision, coming amid the Gaza war and Iran's backing for Hamas, would effectively unfreeze an estimated $10 billion that Iraq owes Iran but cannot pay due to US sanctions.

The Biden administration says a thorough vetting process is in place to ensure that any money released is used exclusively for Iran’s humanitarian and "non-sanctionable" needs such as food and medicine.

But the critics say money is fungible and this fund, however thoroughly vetted, would free up other funds that can be used for malign activities. }}

96 "The tribal mindset is so vastly different than our own that it often makes it impossible to reason with them, and they will not respond logically or rationally as you might assume an American or other Westerner would."

The Muslim world in a nutshell. Democracy, human rights, rule of law, etc. have no meaning to them whatsoever. So let's stop making believe it's otherwise, and stop trying to change them. They have their own civilization with their own customs and rules. And that's fine, as long as they keep it to themselves.

Therefore I would suggest to the Trump administration that we adopt a policy of containment. "We don't mess with your culture; you don't mess with ours."

97 The argument for Trump to make an EO about Birthright Citizenship is that of course it will be overturned immediately by the first judge that hears the case, but then that would give SCOTUS the opportunity to rule on it. I think tlhst is a weak, long shot move. Far stronger to go through Congress. The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 shows that there is precedent for Congress to define rules of citizenship under the 14th Amendment, and that is how this problem should be addressed.
Posted by: Tom Servo at December 09, 2024 07:58 AM (W6hoT)

It's how it SHOULD be addressed but it won't. The Republicans are too gutless and the Democrats won't support it. Trying to get a SCOTUS ruling is unfortunate and weak but it's the only realistic chance we have at the moment.

This came to me from an Olympic coach, and was independently backed up when I talked to an Olympic Gold Medalist in an entirely different sport. I had a horrible hamstring pull that turned the entire back of my thigh purple, and that combo of supplements cured it very quickly.

Makes too much sense. The lawyers' response will be that a civil case has a lower burden of proof. Which does not change the fact that if a jury found Perry, e.g., not guilty of the criminal charge, then that should mean he did not do the act in question.

The leaps they take with this are...amazing. And again this understanding of "gender roles" is a complete reversal of earlier versions of feminism. Prior to 4th gen/feminism the idea was that "gender roles" were arbitrary and either a man or a woman could adopt any such roles if they wanted to and it didn't affect that they were still a man or a woman.

Now tranny feminism argues that if you are not 100% at all times defined by "gender roles" you are non-binary or a tranny. .

In her fascinating book World on Fire, Amy Chua argues that ethnic hatred will always be directed by the host society against any conspicuously successful minority. All three conditions must be present.

1. The hated group must be a minority or people will fear to attack it.
2. It must be successful or people will not envy it, merely feel contempt for it.
3. It must be conspicuous or people will not notice it.

Jews tended to fit all three.

Funny part about that. The reason Muslims claim Jerusalem is that they have a story that Muhammed road a flying horse to the "farthest Mosque" and celebrated a religious ceremony there.

This story only came about later when the Caliphate conquered Jerusalem. Note the Byzantine and Jewish writers of the time did not note any flying horses over Jerusalem nor any Muslim holy men at the time.

Amazing that the Rams go ahead drive started with an uncalled False Start and finished with an uncalled Holding Penalty right before your eyes. Also, available in re-run. What is it with LA Rams and the obvious assists they get from their Refs?

Other than that, I did enjoy a lot of football this weekend.

After that, it becomes representing the best of each conference to see if you really have judged their strength correctly...if you are only 3rd or 4th best, you wouldn't be in your conference championship, let alone the national championship, without the playoffs...

The earliest Byzantine writers on Muslims thought they were some sort of heretics influenced by Judaism. And there were non-orthodox Christian movements outside the Empire so its not like this sort of thing was unusual (see Arianism for example)

How much of what we currently call Islam existed at the time time? Who knows.

One fun specific bit in this area - Islam is famously iconoclastic. Well, the Byzantine Empire embraced iconoclasm in the 700s. Were they influenced by the Caliphate? Or...did the Caliphate adopt this from the Byzantines? Or did they both pick it up from the same thinkers and separately adopt it?

Worse, if you're Russian. The Syrian port of Tartus was Russia's stepping stone to Africa and a base from which it could (potentially) control access to and from the Med via the Suez and Gibraltar. The number of Russian client states in Africa is not insignificant. China now has a free hand there as the US isn't interested in Africa other than a place to launder some money.

It will be interesting whether Putin looks elsewhere in and around the Med for another port (possibly Turkey?) or if Russia returns to North Africa in Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, etc.

"She rips food off the shelves and stomps on it. She runs her
hand behind boxes of dry foods and pushes them onto the floor. She picks up a bottle of sparkling juice out of a crate and smashes it."

I remember something similar when my kids were young and I was bringing them with me shopping to show them the ropes about price comparisons, value shopping, why sometimes it's worth it to pay the higher price point, etc... Y'know, imparting good life lessons, as one should.

Further up the aisle we're in, a little boy just starts melting down... on the floor, fists and feet flailing, screaming... Thankfully it didn't devolve into product destruction, but it was close. His mom's just looking on doing nothing (wrong choice.)

I looked at my two and said plenty loud enough for that mother to hear, "Here's a great example of why your mother and I raise you the way we do. We would NEVER let you turn out like THAT." Both my kids are nodding at me and have this "shocked and apalled" look on their face at the other kid. That kid's mom wasn't happy with me. Oh well, anyway.

I had to explain carefully to hikers, just because Deer and Bear shit on the trail doesn’t make it OK. There is the Fly Shit Food nexus, and a host of waterborne diseases and viruses that are only passed thru humans.

Volodymyr Zelensky deserves to be "Person of the Year" this year and every year that the devastating war in Ukraine drags on. He's the picture of leadership.

Musk. After all, he's been in the papers quite a few times: blew up $60 million worth of rockets, finally released The Homer, bought a presidential election...or maybe Putin.

309 One fun specific bit in this area - Islam is famously iconoclastic. Well, the Byzantine Empire embraced iconoclasm in the 700s. Were they influenced by the Caliphate? Or...did the Caliphate adopt this from the Byzantines? Or did they both pick it up from the same thinkers and separately adopt it?
Posted by: 18-1

The first Iconoclast Emperor was Leo III, who, IIRC, was from Syria. So probably he got it from the Muslims. But who knows?

326 JJ is right. Syria is just exchanging one tyrant for another worse tyrant. I lived in Iran in late seventies (and left) when all the “youth” were jonesing for a new regime. They were hating on the shah who no doubt ruled with a tight fist, but brought wealth to the country, gave education to the people-including women, and generally loved his country. Look what they exchanged that for—Islamic brutality! Iran went from a western friendly modern looking country to 14th century tyrannical rule.

Sometimes, the old ways are the best ways. Note well - this is also for children’s benefit as well as society.

The left enjoys blowing up conventions, whilst at the same time demanding we all continue on as before. So, they parade a child wind up toy in front of say, Congress, spouting BS, and attack anyone who dares utter a discouraging word to a mere child.

See how that works? With a media compliant editing program and “gotcha” moments, they use Women and Children and Vulnerable Communities as completely unassailable protected entities.

384 Under no circumstances am I condoning murder.

I would like to point out why United Health Care is the most hated healthcare insurance company. Industry wide the rejection rate for claims is 16%. UHC has a claim rejection rate of 32%. Hard enough to believe 1 in 6 insurance claims are illegitimate, but 1 in 3?

By the way the industry rejection rate for premiums is right at 0.000%.

386 That almost sounds apologetic toward the insurance industry -- but who is it who wrote Obamacare? Oh, the Dems porked it up past the gills, but the fundamental legislation was the dream sheet of medical insurance, fully giving them a mandate, enforceable under the law, that everyone MUST use their product. The insurance industry was not devoured by Obamacare; they set the friggin' table for it.

While I cannot argue with this, it is in no way apologetic to the Insurance industry. But much like the pros in the propaganda press, the commenter cherry picked one line, and ignored the entire paragraph:
==
Of course this comment is absolutely false. They wrote almost none of it. They were explicitly excluded from it. They were the boogeyman in the closet dems used to whip up support. The hospitals had much more input.

This is not to say that the insurance companies didn't lobby for it in the end. Because they did. But they had very little input in its drafting. It was mostly pointed head leftist government single payer advocates who fashioned it. Left to their devices, they would have eliminated private insurance.

387 369 Trump is licensing a cologne and perfume called Fight Fight Fight. I thought it would be a fun Christmas buy. It is $200 smackaroos per bottle!! Is that how much this stuff normally costs? Wow!! I had no idea. I've only bought grocerie store cologne, old spice and stetson. I guess I'm a poor, ain't I?

388 It's not that 'nation-building' was never going to work.

It's that the 'experts' in charge absolutely forbid the military from actually doing the things that was going to LET nation-building work.

They refused to let them punish corruption in the Afghan army and government refused to let them cross the border to Pakistan where they KNEW the strongholds of the fighters were, and made them abide by the most ludicrously restrictive ROE (Rules of Engagement) imaginable.

EVERYBODY in the military below the rank of general knew the Afghan army was going to fold the second we left. EVERYBODY.

391 Good morning, all, and thanks, J.J. for another wonderful thread.

The blue states dole out medical benefits packages to their state & county workers that are fantastic (usually including dental, vision, life insurance, accident, disability) & relatively inexpensive even for full family coverage. Same with the big public unions such as, but not limited to, IBEW, Carpenters, Teamsters, etc. The feds also get very good medical coverage at good rates; pay extra for dental, vision, life insurance.

Meandering to a point, why murder the CEO of Unitedhealthcare? Is it a statement killing, a hate crime?

KFF, 'Health Policy 101, The Regulation of Private Health Insurance' Published: May 28, 2024 | Updated July 29, 2024

In part, "Introduction
Private health coverage is subject to significant requirements at the state and federal levels. While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 ushered in many new requirements for the federal regulation of private health coverage, another federal law, the Employer Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), has for over 50 years regulated the most predominant form of health coverage for people under age 65, employer-sponsored coverage."

394 New Hampshire Bulletin, Election 2024
Goodlander adds ‘congresswoman from New Hampshire’ to her government resume
2nd District voters chose her over Republican Lily Tang Williams, By: Claire Sullivan - November 6, 2024

In part, "She focused her campaign on taking on the “bullies” that she described as big corporations and extreme politicians. Goodlander also entered the race with a deeply personal story: She needed immediate care after losing her son at 20 weeks pregnant. Instead, she said, she faced delays caused by an influx of patients from states with restrictive abortion laws. With her appointment scheduled one day too late, she was forced to deliver her stillborn son in a hotel bathtub.

Goodlander has said she would “fight like hell” to restore federal abortion protections once guaranteed by Roe v. Wade, which was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2022."

395 Might want rethink some of thoughts on Syria, just as you later, look back and said while Saddam Hussein and Kadafi were surely heavy-handed dictators they had to be. Furthermore, you might wanna research who is behind these attacks and what you’ll find is. They are the same rebels that launched the attack against Israel, October 7 and was simply relocated by the United States into Syria. It is not a miracle coincidence the day the cease-fire began rebels began advancing into Aleppo . You might also wanna research that it was our 810 fighter squadron from Turkey that provided ground support and decimated Syrias ground forces. For further research.Look at Dick Cheneys position on Genie Energy along with other members who wield influence, it’s location and the history of the Trans Arabian Pipeline, that began after world war 2 under Project Ajax, before calling this a conspiracy theory simple searches can reveal the whole truth. Let’s not forget it was Bush then Obama’ who began this and was Trump who defunded CIA operations in Syria . Might also want to look up the comments by an ambassador Jeffries who admitted he lthey repeatedly lied to Trump about troop withdrawals.
