I think I'm heading into a cold. Last night Miss Linda dragged me out to the "Holiday Stroll," another event where many of the shops in an Uptown district stay open, offer cheese and wine or champagne, and display their wares. It wasn't that cold, and I was dressed for it. But about halfway through the walk I became aware of a faint soreness at the back of my throat. It persisted overnight and is still annoying me.

The hell of it is, I've been working out, eating properly, and taking vitamins and supplements. You know the old saying: "Eat right, exercise, and still die." For "die" substitute "get sick." Grrrr.

Yes, I'll have to try that salt concoction. Hot coffee helps a bit, as does a throat lozenge. I'll have some breakfast in a bit. No pipe, of course, and no workout. Later I'll hit the local grocery for a few things they have that Walmart doesn't carry. (Apparently WM shoppers here don't care much for sparkling mineral water; the local stores don't have anything but $12 boxes of Perrier.)

Al Jazeera has had reporters in Damascus all night long. It's a rather giddy time according to the reports and people are feeling like they have been rescued. I don't think that sentiment is going to last all that long. As for where Assad is he apparently flew out of the country and then the beacon for the plane he was thought to be on disappeared from the tracking system. One can hope his his jet experienced rapid unexpected disassembly from a missile.

I remember our washboard. My mother OBM used it in the double enamel sink we had in the kitchen. The right sink was the usual for dishwashing. The left one was wider and very deep.

106 I just picked up some molasses cookies at the local church Christmas bazaars I hadn't had them for a long time. Unfortunately there were only six in a small bag and between the three of us there are only two left now.

I had a nice chat with some of the members there. I told them my son went to the pre school there . He was an actual star ( wearing a star costume) in their Christmas pageant and I said that I could honestly tell people, "My son is a star. 😉

I will argue that Syria collapsing IS great! Of course there will be problems - best thing is to get out 900 troops out of there.

The reason this is great is because it is part of the complete collapse of Iranian influence in the region, and in Iran’s 30 year strategy of encirclement. It also signals the death of Hezbollah, not only because they lost so many assets inside Syria, but also because they have lost all of their Iranian supply lines. Lebanon now truly does have a chance to regain it’s sovereignty now.
