This video is about the discovery of human foot prints at White Sands National Park, some 45 minutes from where I live, and the counter evidence that the breathless news reports that they show humans arrived in North American thousands of years earlier than is understood might be somewhat premature. Plus some claims that they were made by big foot which I found to be utterly true. I am not sure where this leaves Australia but I am feeling all sporty that all this says they deserve being stuck with Perth.

Evening and morning to all the early risers, Sunday toilers, and satellites in space!
I think I'm heading into a cold. Last night Miss Linda dragged me out to the "Holiday Stroll," another event where many of the shops in an Uptown district stay open, offer cheese and wine or champagne, and display their wares. It wasn't that cold, and I was dressed for it. But about halfway through the walk I became aware of a faint soreness at the back of my throat. It persisted overnight and is still annoying me. The hell of it is, I've been working out, eating properly, and taking vitamins and supplements. You know the old saying: "Eat right, exercise, and still die." For "die" substitute "get sick." Grrrr. Assad regime in Syria has fallen. Breitbart reporting now.
Posted by: J.J. Sefton Al Jazeera has had reporters in Damascus all night long. It's a rather giddy time according to the reports and people are feeling like they have been rescued. I don't think that sentiment is going to last all that long. The First Noel. Bing Crosby.
late 14c., nowel, nouel "Christmas, the Feast of the Nativity," from Old French noel "the Christmas season," variant of nael, from Latin natalis (dies) "birth (day)," used in Church Latin in reference to the birthday of Christ, from natus, past participle of nasci "be born" (Old Latin gnasci), from PIE root *gene- "give birth, beget." The modern word in English, with the sense "a Christmas carol" (1811) probably is a separate borrowing from French. As a masc. proper name, it is from Old French, probably literally "of or born on Christmas." https://tinyurl.com/2ffm3cmy Posted by: Aetius451AD at December 08, 2024 06:27 AM (bss/y) 81

Posted by: Ben Had at December 08, 2024 07:22 AM (gGMRM) I think Erdogan's guiding star is to stay in power- whichever way the winds blow.* What does that mean? Hell if I know. The situation is chaotic as hell and where do you place your money given how everything is going kabloey? China maybe? We are not exactly 'stable'. But I am not sure China is a good bet either in a real sense as I have a gut feeling that they are just a larger, more populous Russia- which was exposed with the Ukraine thing. PLUS, they have not had a major conflict aside from proxy wars (Vietnam and Korea) in about 100 years. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at December 08, 2024 07:23 AM (d9fT1) - No. Unlike the present Regime, Trump will give Israel a green light to do what it takes and most probably open up the armaments supply which the Regime shut tight. However, considering that some of the hostages are Americans, this is up to the US to decide whether they're getting involved adds anything to what Israel can do. It was considered a matter of pride to not stoop to go to headquarters. This goes way back. Everyone knew that the ones who were going to headquarters were the ones trying to climb the ladder. They didn’t care about cases. They would always do what’s politically correct. And so they were all made fun of. In fact, Jules Bonavolonta wrote a book about how bad headquarters was.

That very well maybe true,BH, and the local Syrian happy to see Hamas/Hezbollah gone. But, my hypothesis is that this was coup was done to strengthen the northern front of the war against Israel.
Time will tell if the new Syrian regime keeps Iran and the anti Israel US forces out or if it offers better protection to those forces. I predict the latter. Posted by: Accomack at December 08, 2024 08:06 AM (bDwf8) 192

Just f'ing great. Posted by: Martini Farmer at December 08, 2024 08:14 AM (Q4IgG) I will argue that Syria collapsing IS great! Of course there will be problems - best thing is to get out 900 troops out of there. The reason this is great is because it is part of the complete collapse of Iranian influence in the region, and in Iran’s 30 year strategy of encirclement. It also signals the death of Hezbollah, not only because they lost so many assets inside Syria, but also because they have lost all of their Iranian supply lines. Lebanon now truly does have a chance to regain it’s sovereignty now. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 08, 2024 08:35 AM (W6hoT) 222

The USS Arizona held the brunt of the casualties from the Pearl Harbor attack, with only 334 survivors. Many of those who perished now lay with the ship eternally, unable to be recovered. While all Pearl Harbor survivors have the option to have their ashes scattered across the bay upon their passing, survivors of the Arizona have the unique opportunity to join their fallen shipmates. After their deaths, these individuals may choose to have their urns interred in the well of barbette number four upon the Arizona by divers. A barbette is a fixed armored enclosure to protect the ship’s guns, making this a suitable, protected place for eternal rest. Services for these individuals are held on the USS Arizona memorial and include a committal, rifle salute, TAPS, and a flag and plaque presentation to the family along with the actual internment. As of 2020, 44 survivors have chosen this route. Posted by: rhennigantx at December 08, 2024 08:51 AM (gbOdA) 240

Caesar wrote in fairly straightforward Latin, easier to translate than Cicero or elder Cato, piece of cake compared to Ovid. As a result it's the first profound phrase a ruddy schoolboy encounters after learning that Italia is almost an island. The ensuing Tres Partes-ism has impacted all the products of classical education, in particular the Sykes-Picot Middle East, where generations of soldiers and diplomats beavered away to divide everything -- gods, opposition parties, old and new nations -- into three parts.
