Assassin Guns Down the CEO of UnitedHealthcare in the Middle of the Street in Alvin Bragg's Sanctuary City for Killers, NYC

Sean Davis
@seanmdav

Targeted assassinations are happening in the middle of New York City, so obviously the city prosecutor is focused on imprisoning a Good Samaritan who had the audacity to protect a train full of people from a nutjob.

This looks like a professional job, though this could be an antifa hit.

The New York City Police Department asked for the public's help in apprehending the unidentified gunman who allegedly shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning, decrying what investigators deemed a "premeditated, pre-planned attack."

The Hilton Hotel was hosting the UnitedHealthcare annual investors meeting, and police said Thompson had been in town from Minnesota since Monday and was staying across the street.

"It appears the suspect was lying in wait for several minutes, and as the victim was walking to the conference hotel, the suspect approached from behind and fired several rounds, striking the victim at least once in the back and at least once in the right calf," NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a press conference. "Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target. The suspect fled first on foot, then on an e-bike, and was last seen in Central Park on Center Drive."

The shooting came as tourists flock to the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting, which will take place just blocks away from the scene later Wednesday night.

A manhunt is underway as the suspect remains at-large.

"I want to be clear at this time, every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned and targeted attack," Tisch said. "Millions of people will be enjoying the tree lighting tonight, among other holiday events, and the NYPD will be out there with them, keeping them safe."

Here's why I think this might be a leftwing/antifa hit:

Reached by NBC News, Thompson's wife confirmed there had been threats against her husband but said she did not know specifics.

"There had been some threats," Paulette Thompson told NBC News via a phone call. "Basically, I don't know, a lack of coverage? I don't know details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him."

Police were in the process of conducting a search on Thompson's hotel room to investigate further, Kenny said.

People are saying this looks "professional," but I don't know. He is calm enough, but he shot the guy right in front of witnesses. (Yes I know that a Mafia killer might shoot someone in front of witnesses -- I saw The Godfather.)

Executing a health care CEO feels like an antifa thing to me. But Chris Wray says that organization doesn't exist, so I must be wrong.

He fled the assassination on a bicycle, which is a good way to get away in NYC. You don't want to be stopped in traffic. Get on a bike and ride it to your getaway car parked a mile away.

John Ekdahl
@JohnEkdahl

He looks like a Taylor Lorenz disciple.

Normalizing the wearing of masks in public is a great victory for antifa and other serial criminals.

I'm not sure why he used a silencer, given that he shot the guy in the middle of the sidewalk with witnesses around him. Maybe NYC has that "Shot Spot" system and a gunshot would alert police faster? I dunno. Just doesn't seem like a stealth killing at all. But maybe he was stalking him, hoping for a quiet shot, but never got the chance to kill him quietly.

This guy claims -- and I don't vouch for this at all -- that he can "scrape" Citibike user information. He says the bike is one of those Citibikes you rent from docking stations.

Meanwhile, the jury is deliberating in the Daniel Penny case. Glad we got that killer in the dock, huh?

And this is the stupidity of "health insurance". Insurance should not pay for regular doctor visits, pills, etc. That's not what insurance is. Insurance is supposed to be for major negative events like a car crash or your house burning down.

Our "health insurance" then is really some sort of collective health care pool. And any time you have someone getting say AIDS meds or "gender affirming surgery" they are going to use a ton of money out of that pool that all the other people are going to have to pay for.

Exactly. Insurance is supposed to be against risks that the policyholder has an incentive to avoid. Death, fire, auto collisions...

76 Jamming with every shot because of poor ammo selection/recoil spring choice/lack of practice?

Actually that would indicate he did know what he was doing since subsonic ammunition in combination with a suppressor can be very quiet but will not direct enough compression to cycle the weapon. Which means cycling by hand each time. Which he did rather smoothly and without hesitation, which indicates he wasn't surprised by the need to manually cycle the gun. So I think this conclusion is incorrect.

105 53 And this is the stupidity of "health insurance". Insurance should not pay for regular doctor visits, pills, etc. That's not what insurance is. Insurance is supposed to be for unforeseeable major negative events like a car crash or your house burning down.

When 404-care came to be, they illegalized all the "major medical" policies, which is what you're describing. I'm on Medicare (cause I'm old) and I pay out of pocket over 6 grand a year in premiums and it damn well better cover every last penny (which it does).

127 Actually that would indicate he did know what he was doing since subsonic ammunition in combination with a suppressor can be very quiet but will not direct enough compression to cycle the weapon. Which means cycling by hand each time. Which he did rather smoothly and without hesitation, which indicates he wasn't surprised by the need to manually cycle the gun. So I think this conclusion is incorrect.

Also if he had stalked the guy for 10 more seconds there would be no witness and the one witness who saw him saw him full face.

He also (to me) has a distinctive walk. Slightly flat footed and trudging. Photo of him standing makes him as young.

Exactly. Insurance is supposed to be against risks that the policyholder has an incentive to avoid. Death, fire, auto collisions...

For the same reason, health insurance should be limited to catastrophic coverage where the policyholder has no incentive to bring about the conditions leading to payment.

Except that insurance companies have a financial stake in you being healthy so they essentially subsidize doctor visits and medications to help

Posted by: sniffybigtoe

Watching again more closely, I have to agree, although it makes things even MORE weird. Speed is key, so a non-semi-auto pistol is 1- very rare and easier to trace and 2- a poor choice in general. The guy IMMEDIATELY started manually cycling after the first shot...if it was a jam/failure to cycle due to subsonic ammo or something, I'd expect to see him try to shoot again, then check for a jam and clear it. He didn't do that...so either had a bolt action gun, or had practiced a lot with a semi-auto and knew he'd have to manually cycle every shot.

270 assassin
n noun
1 a person who murders someone for political or religious reasons.
2 (Assassin) a member of the fanatical Nizari branch of Ismaili Muslims dominant at the time of the Crusades.

WORD HISTORY (from hashashin)
In the literal sense an assassin was a person who used cannabis. The root of the word, which entered English in the 16th century from either French or medieval Latin, is the Arabic hasisi 'hashish eater', and it was first used in reference to the Nizari branch of Ismaili Muslims who ruled part of northern Persia in the 12th and 13th centuries, during the time of the Crusades. Renowned as militant fanatics, they were reputed to use hashish before being sent to murder the Christian leaders.

306 I like to think that I'm somewhat cognizant of guns and spend quite a bit of time on curio weapons sites and I never heard of such a model. I would venture to guess that the market for a $2K$ manually operated suppressed pistol is a pretty damn small niche market. And since it's sold suppressed, that means every buyer has fingerprints on file. Assuming that the shooter didn't purchase it, the odds of one of these being stolen would be seem to be vanishingly small.

The shooter seems to be doing way too many malfunction clearings to be a B&T. This really seems like a generic semi-auto malfunctioing.

He is also not twisting his hand or the gun in the manner required for a Welrod/B&T. He IS turning the gun so he can get his hand on the slide, but he's not twisting it after he grabs the slide and pulls back.

He actually fails to clear the last jam immediately and whacks the pistol like he'd really like to get one more shot off, then gives up on it and walks away (to the bike).

I pick up and put down the nerdcasts as needed. Nerdrotic and Drinker are the two I'll pretty much watch regularly. There's a couple I really liked, until the grift vibe turned me off, or their chosen content no longer matched the content I originally watched them for.

I'm doing a lot of gamertube playthroughs with one of my stepkids. He is very into TABS (totally accurate battle simulator) so we watch the goofy fight simulations other gamers set up.

358 I'm going to disagree with the Station Six identification. Chambering a new round on the Station Six would require a different grip in the support hand (more of a pinch of the knurled knob on the end). The shooter is gripping overhand and racking the top of the slide like any normal semiautomatic pistol.

My guess is that it was a typical semiauto pistol with a homemade suppressor without the booster. The extra weight of the suppressor keeps the action from cycling normally, due to it interfering with the barrel tilting up during the cycle.

Posted by: Common Tater at December 04, 2024 05:57 PM (17WQZ)

396 I don't what he's shooting, but it ain't what people are saying. It looks like someone who half-assed a suppressor on a regular semi-auto pistol that is completely failing to cycle so he now has what is effectively a straight pull bolt action pistol. There's a good possibility someone hand built and fixed it to a gun not equipped to take a suppressor. But it worked well enough for the task at hand and he just went with it. He also probably practiced with it beforehand because he seemed he was already accustomed to it malfing every shot by the fact he just reaches up and hand cycles the slide with determination as opposed to what you more often see when the malfunctions are unexpected where they look at firearm, panicking and fumbling until they either clear it, or just foul it up even more before running off.

404 I've seen a couple people state that he's catching brass. I don't think so. The movement is wrong. I've tried to capture brass with that movement and it doesn't work. You end up with the brass falling back into the chamber and you get a stove pipe malfunction. You'll note that he's not putting the brass in his pockets between shots. With his grip open down while he's working the slide, he's going to drop any case in his hand on the 2nd or 3rd shot.

So... NYPD probably has spent shell casings to work with. Which will most likely do jack squat to solve this murder and might add a little extra evidence to a murder conviction way down the line.
