Hunter Gets His Pardon
Yesterday’s ONT was overshadowed by the non-surprise news of Hunter Biden receiving a full pardon for any crimes he may have committed over the last decade. Somehow there was also a good bit of discussion about anal creases. Hey, if that’s the kind of stuff you all want on the ONT, I shall not deny you
I flipped a coin to determine which of those would get additional coverage here tonight. Probably best for all of us that the Hunter pardon won out.
The Joy Of Gift Giving
Black Friday shopping has changed quite a bit over the recent years. The rapid shift to online shopping has resulted in a near extinction of early morning campouts at malls and big box stores to save money on door-busters and have a chance to land each year’s hard-to-get toys and games. The move away from in-person shopping also has lessened the well-publicized fits and fights.

Annual Santa Train Makes Special Stop to Deliver Joy to Hurricane Survivors
The 82nd annual run of the Santa Train through Appalachian mountain towns kicked off this year with a special stop to bring holiday cheer to a community ravaged by Hurricane Helene in the Eastern United States.
Santa Claus kicked off the celebration in Erwin, Tennessee, giving out gift bags, chicken dinners, and a close-up view of the heritage 1902 Clinchfield steam locomotive chosen this year to pull train cars full of presents, and decorated with festive lights, along the 110-mile whistlestop tour in late November.
One of the nation’s oldest and most cherished holiday traditions, the CSX Santa Train distributed more than 15 tons of gifts to families along the route, making this year’s event another huge success.
Spreading holiday cheer across Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, and Tennessee, thousands of families lined the route as the train brought an abundance of toys, backpacks, winter clothes, and holiday joy to Appalachian communities that have gathered to share in the holiday spirit.
It’s a Christmas tradition that started in 1943.

Well, now I know. It had dropped down to 29.8F here by 7:30, but at 8:30 the wind picked up a bit, stirred it up, and it warmed up to 39.2. It's peaked and is cooling back down a bit.
It was a small patch of clouds right over this area moved in. Just a small patch right over here (this is thanks to my cousin, who knows what and where to look for).
A 9 degree swing in about 45 minutes.

If y'all are serious about it... there's a distillery up the road from me. They do some "one offs." Basically their standard Bourbon in different bottles... commemorative stuff. No idea what the "run" would be... some number of bottles. Might be too pricey for the Horde... per bottle.

There could be an "X-Y" graph for Bourbons, and I would put Jim Beam at the center. NOT because it's the "best" (it's not), but because it's the most common, KNOWN reference for the flavor we call "Bourbon".

I agree. Single malts rule. But JWB is lovely with a fresh pack of Swisher Sweets and a couple Colt-45 40 ouncers.
New Mexico distillery...Colkegan. It is scotch type whiskey smoked with mesquite in the range of 92 to 120 proof. It is a bit untamed but is an excellent untamed. $65 to $85 a bottle and worth it.

The backstory here is the distiller learned his craft in Scotch distilleries and because he needed better dental work than he cold get there, he move to New Mexico. That did not go as he planned. Strapped for cash he set up a distillery and soon discovered there are exactly zero peat bogs in New Mexico, hence the mesquite. The result is a Colkegan Mesquite Smoked Single Malt Whiskey.

There are plenty fine blends; it's about whether you like what's blended. A lot of top-shelf single malts end up in blends because better than to toss 'em when you don't have enough for a proper bottling run. That said, JWBlack is, well, it'll do if need be. Now the gold is taaasty (if they still make it).

Steering box is for the '99 Burb. With the 2008 back to 100%, I will leave the steering issues to work on come Springtime. The little electric heater got my work area in the big shop up to 21 degrees from the 10 degrees outside. Tolerable enough for a brief job like re&re drive shaft. Not going to do an open-ended sort of job like solve steering problems when it's that cold, though.

I saw, on the ABC Evening News, the clip of Biden assuring an unimportant talking head that he would not pardon his son. He answered in single words, in a voice that was clearly that of a dottering old man. Now that he's issued the pardon, he looks like he's almost lost all powers of recognition, except that he has to save his son. I understand this.
But I've read other things, a bit towards the fringe, like: "He's Obama's 3rd Term", "The holdovers from the Obama Administration mistreated him", "Kammie was supposed to be Obama's 4th Term", and then today, here, "George Clooney "Fuming" That Barack Obama "Manipulated" Him ...".
It would not surprise me to learn, officially, in 2074, that all of this, and more, is true. That Biden really did force the

Chemo went fine today - will reassess tomorrow. And everyone at the center said that it's the SUBSEQUENT treatments that get harder and harder, due to the cumulative effects of all of the poison being dumped in your body.

Hope you have no ill-effects from chemo. It can be rough, as I've seen with family members, but not always.
A guy I used to work with, underwent rounds of chemo (don't know for sure, but suspect bowel cancer) and told me he'd get so nauseated. To the point that he'd be sick *before* the infusion, kinda like Pavlov's dog ya know?
But-- that was it. Nausea for a day or so, and then fine.

I can only hope that there is a great photo-op perp walk of some mayor/governor/elected official because they defied ICE. Just got out of the shower. I need to get a second humidifier (just bring one down from my mother's house). Hot steaming shower and it didn't even fog up the mirror or the windows. RH was about 38% with the little humidifier going. It's now up to 41% with the HVAC circulating the moist bathroom air.
It's just 28F outside, thanks to that little cloud cover that rolled over earlier. It was amazing, wind picked up and the temp rose 9 degrees in 45 minutes. It was freezing by 7AM, and was 30F by 7:30. Then, at 8AM that cloud event happened, and it was 39 by 9:30 or so.
Now, it's been slowly cooling back down. Cloud cover is gone now, so it will cooling fast again, but that held off the hard freeze zone for a while.

I mentioned that since apparently no one seems to have come forward about missing a cat, or typical shoddy journalism, don't bother to find an owner for a follow up story.
JQ, three of mine were in the middle of the day or thereabouts. We eventually stopped having outside cats whenever possible and have one left, Mr Grey. If we can catch him when the vet is open then he's getting the unkindest cut of all and becomes an inside cat. I don't think he's young either and is probably Daddy to Brie's 6 babies who we love.

I have an outdoor cat right now and worry about him every night. We're not near any busy roads, so thankful for that. Cat was a 'barn cat' and doesn't recognize a litterbox... he only knows outside.
Thankful that we're on the outskirts of town. I know there are coyotes, but so far they've stayed on the other side of the river... lot of farmers with gubs to keep them "over there" you might say.

Yes he has wiggle room in a State case when giving evidence but in a criminal trial it's the State that has to make the case so unless his defense puts him on the stand, there is no opportunity to plead the 5th.

Suppose Congress or the current executive (think Kash and Pam Bondi) start asking Hunter questions. He can still weasel with the 5th if anything they are asking about would incriminate him in a state case.

Yeah, I spent last Friday doing things like gassing up the car and visiting the free sculpture park in City Park with Linda. Most of the sculptures are pretty abstract and modern, and there are only two or three I actually like. One looks like the gigantic structures in the original Time Machine that exist above ground in the time of the Morlocks, except this one is battle-scarred. Peculiar stuff. Most are from the personal collection of a family who established and ran a local chain of drugstores, now gone, for several generations here.
