Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Monday Overnight Open Thread (12/2/24) - DoofHowdy Hordelings, and welcome to this week’s Monday ONT. Step inside and see what is on the docket tonight. Hunter Gets His Pardon Yesterday’s ONT was overshadowed by the non-surprise news of Hunter Biden receiving a full pardon for any crimes he may have committed over the last decade. Somehow there was also a good bit of discussion about anal creases. Hey, if that’s the kind of stuff you all want on the ONT, I shall not deny you I flipped a coin to determine which of those would get additional coverage here tonight. Probably best for all of us that the Hunter pardon won out. The Joy Of Gift Giving Black Friday shopping has changed quite a bit over the recent years. The rapid shift to online shopping has resulted in a near extinction of early morning campouts at malls and big box stores to save money on door-busters and have a chance to land each year’s hard-to-get toys and games. The move away from in-person shopping also has lessened the well-publicized fits and fights. Readers remember Black Friday fights, limo rides, early morning mimosas Cynthia Monroe Miller hasn’t been back to Black Friday since the time she saw two women fighting over a pair of boots at a shoe store.**** Some traditions will hopefully never fade away. Such as the annual run of the Santa Train through Appalachian mountain towns. Annual Santa Train Makes Special Stop to Deliver Joy to Hurricane Survivors The 82nd annual run of the Santa Train through Appalachian mountain towns kicked off this year with a special stop to bring holiday cheer to a community ravaged by Hurricane Helene in the Eastern United States. By now you’ve probably heard that super important folks like Rob Reiner, Alyssa Milano, Richard Gere, Don Lemon, and many others have decided they can’t handle the uncensored world of X now that Elon Musk has turned the place into a true bastion of free speech. Which of course makes it a “Right Wing” platform. To them and their ilk, being challenged on their regurgitated talking points is just too much to handle. So they are leaving X in droves. — Marie Isabella (@MarieIsabellaB) December 1, 2024**** However, they can’t just stop spouting their leftist bilge in feeble attempts to gain attention, so they are moving over to “safe” platforms such as Instagram’s Threads or the new lefty favorite BlueSky. DJ Doof – Sounds of the Season (Part 1) **** **** Short but outstanding one from The Whirling Dervishes. Mr. Grinch **** Emerson, Lake and Palmer rock out! The Nutrocker Live 1970. Dali was a strange cat.
Orwell wrote a famous review of Dali and Dali’s biography. Libel laws being what they were perhaps, I think Orwell knew something about Dali that couldn’t be publicly revealed maybe? Anyway, he used Dali as an example of a fatal flaw in Western society. Namely, if someone is talented, almost any other defect in character will be tolerated if not even celebrated. Mike Jackson in recent years would be a classic example among so many to choose. Known kiddie fucker. Free pass, because he can sing? Orwell sort of intimated they oughtta be looking under Dali’s crawlspace. No sane society should let lunatics and crazy people move into it. 136, there has to be more to this story. I’m interested in learning about it. I know they claim people are drinking less after Covid but I don’t really buy that one. They don’t flat out say that people stop buying stolen because of the war in Ukraine, but that has to be at least a small part of it. I think changing the name from Stolichnaya to Stoli was a bad idea. I didn’t even know they did that. Stolichnaya has been made in Lithuania for many years, not Russia. And I actually really like that vodka. It is very different than the average one and it does have a flavor. There is a Russian style that exist a little bit hotter..
Most booze companies do well even though crap companies like Diageo. I’d be interested in learning more about what happened to Stoli. From the article, they didn’t seem to diversify much most of those booze companies are big-time diversified among the brands and styles. Posted by: Quint at December 02, 2024 10:51 PM (duL14) 189

Quint. No quarrel on the Elija Craig. It most certainly IS a good bourbon. I'll have to buy a wee bit now, and re-acquaint myself with it's flavor profile, though.
There could be an "X-Y" graph for Bourbons, and I would put Jim Beam at the center. NOT because it's the "best" (it's not), but because it's the most common, KNOWN reference for the flavor we call "Bourbon". Everything else is a subjective measure of "from" Jim Beam. Might have to bottle and sell some Crossbow Bourbon to sell against Longbow Bourbon? Some Ginger to sell against Mary Ann? 9mm Bourbon vs. .45? Mesquite? Scotch? Posted by: Cicero
I know. It sounds like an abomination. But it ain't. The backstory here is the distiller learned his craft in Scotch distilleries and because he needed better dental work than he cold get there, he move to New Mexico. That did not go as he planned. Strapped for cash he set up a distillery and soon discovered there are exactly zero peat bogs in New Mexico, hence the mesquite. The result is a Colkegan Mesquite Smoked Single Malt Whiskey. "Like its Scottish single malt cousins, Santa Fe Spirits’ Colkegan Single Malt Whiskey is made entirely from malted barley, carefully distilled, and aged and finished in various oak casks to enhance the complex flavors inherent to true single malt whiskey. But there are key differences that set this remarkable spirit apart from its Scottish relatives." Now that he's issued the pardon, he looks like he's almost lost all powers of recognition, except that he has to save his son. I understand this. But I've read other things, a bit towards the fringe, like: "He's Obama's 3rd Term", "The holdovers from the Obama Administration mistreated him", "Kammie was supposed to be Obama's 4th Term", and then today, here, "George Clooney "Fuming" That Barack Obama "Manipulated" Him ...". James Clavell's novels, though not thoroughly Chop Saki, give a fair approximation of a Michener Novel, insofar as a deep opening chapters dive, into the Genesis I level history of a place and it's peoples. Soaking up those bowlderized "histories" in novel form, can be the fastest means by which to gain a conversational familiarity with the same. 'Cause you ain't reading Churchill's volumes in five sittings, and he didn't write much about the Pacific Theater, anyway. RH was about 38% with the little humidifier going. It's now up to 41% with the HVAC circulating the moist bathroom air. It's just 28F outside, thanks to that little cloud cover that rolled over earlier. It was amazing, wind picked up and the temp rose 9 degrees in 45 minutes. It was freezing by 7AM, and was 30F by 7:30. Then, at 8AM that cloud event happened, and it was 39 by 9:30 or so. Now, it's been slowly cooling back down. Check the dates of their stock/bond transactions against new laws passed and if insider trading then publish a Wall Of Shame. Cat is sitting on his wooden bench right now, out on the deck. It's his favorite spot, to sit at night and just chill & snuff & listen...

That's the supposed job of each agency's inspector general. But, it doesn't work, because the IG is as corrupt as they are. I think I saw some reform proposal out of DOGE or somebody about making the IG offices utterly independent of their agencies. Late night humor.
I got fired on the first day of my new job for asking customers if they would prefer "Smoking or Non-Smoking." Apparently, the correct phrase is, "Cremation or Burial." Posted by: Ciampino - tire, tyre, tired of the changes at December 03, 2024 03:13 AM (i0xsb) 456
Lil bro called tonight, bummed about The Pardon. So, I told him the bright side, about no 5th for crackhead's potential testimony. Brightened bro's day.
Told bro to just sit back, go long on popcorn futures, and enjoy the show. Heh. If we gotta live in "interesting times" well, hopefully we will be ENTERTAINED. Posted by: JQ at December 03, 2024 03:14 AM (YoCnN) 457
Unfortunately, there's some wiggle room about the 5th Amendment negation. It negates it for federal crimes, but not state crimes, so he still has the 5th for that. So anything that could possibly be a state crime as well as federal, well, he's got wiggle room. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at December 03, 2024 03:19 AM (w6EFb) 458
The pardon was always coming, I never had a doubt, I just never imagined a blanket 10-year stretch. I always assumed the crime(s) had to be named, even if vaguely.
I'm thinking that a Truth and Reconciliation Committee as they did in South Africa might not be bad for smaller fry who might be legion. The gig fish I want in court and then jail. Those whose crimes resulted in deaths (including suicide) need a quick hanging, otherwise next D admin will just release them. Yes he has wiggle room in a State case when giving evidence but in a criminal trial it's the State that has to make the case so unless his defense puts him on the stand, there is no opportunity to plead the 5th. As a 29yr old, I now know better than to get my hopes up for "justice"
I'd settle for the 3 R's: retribution, retaliation, revenge. But I'll be satisfied to merely watch the show. The whining, the pant-crapping, the wailing... Posted by: JQ at December 03, 2024 03:28 AM (YoCnN) 463
Suppose Congress or the current executive (think Kash and Pam Bondi) start asking Hunter questions. He can still weasel with the 5th if anything they are asking about would incriminate him in a state case. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at December 03, 2024 03:38 AM (w6EFb) 464
Right. So, stick with the Federal stuff.

Morning, insomaniacals! Yes, I was wondering where the Black Friday campouts and chimpouts had gone; the local "news" never mentions them any more. Still I avoid Walmarts or Targets on the day after T-giving.
Just to be difficult, I avoided any online purchases yesterday, Cyber Monday. So there. How is ever'body's Tiu's Day going? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 03, 2024 03:41 AM (omVj0) 466
Put the crackhead on the stand. Grill him. Make him give up info that will... put a target on his own back. LOL.

I dreamed I was walking toward a coffee shop when I spied a seal snuffling through dumped food below the walkway -- a crabeater or Weddell seal, I concluded at the time. It came up toward me, and apparently I had something on a fishing line (? going to a coffee shop after fishing???) that I tried to keep away from it.
The scene changed, and the seal was gone; but I was holding my late black cat Marie-Antoinette in my arms. Except Marie, unlike in life, had tan fur all along her underside. Somehow I was at home with her on my lap, and she let out a soft growl -- *completely* unlike her in life! And I woke up. Mind movies . . . Mornin' Wolfus!
Yay, for staying away from Shopping Hell! Posted by: JQ at December 03, 2024 *** H'lo, JQ, Yeah, I spent last Friday doing things like gassing up the car and visiting the free sculpture park in City Park with Linda. Most of the sculptures are pretty abstract and modern, and there are only two or three I actually like. One looks like the gigantic structures in the original Time Machine that exist above ground in the time of the Morlocks, except this one is battle-scarred. Peculiar stuff. Most are from the personal collection of a family who established and ran a local chain of drugstores, now gone, for several generations here. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 03, 2024 03:53 AM (omVj0) 471
JQ, oh, yes; I take Unisom and melatonin (which I refer to as my personal law firm). I manage to get between six and seven hours' sleep a night with the combo. Some vivid dreams are a small price to pay for enough sleep, lemme tell ya.

The vivid dreams seems entertaining, though. Glad they're not scary! Posted by: JQ at December 03, 2024 04:01 AM (YoCnN) 474
JQ, that's pretty much a description of most of the work in this sculpture garden.
