Amazon and Walmart.

In the old days if you wanted a collection of different goods you had to go to the mall.

After Walmart you could get shoes, clothes, furniture, and trinkets at Walmart...for less. And latter you could just order it from Amazon and have it show up at your house in a couple of days.

Malls couldn't get compete because the stores there had to pay for appealing real estate.

In my area we still do have malls but I like in a wealthy-ish area and more and more the stores in the malls are high end.

The tepid nature of propaganda that Shrub experimented with was...underwhelming...and of course he shelved most of it as soon as the Democrats started whining about it.

If you want to win a war you fight it like you did in WWII. Yes that means a winning RoE, competent generals, but all an effort to keep homefront morale up. Ironically, the reason we lost the WoT is because Shrub and co had no problem sending grunts to their deaths but were TERRIFIED of getting spoken of poorly in the FNM.

2 teenagers, 1 man arrested for illegally manufacturing guns in Ventura County

Deputies arrested two teenagers and a 45-year-old man for allegedly manufacturing and possessing unregistered guns and automatic rifles in Ventura County, officials announced Friday.
At the conclusion of a months-long investigation, detectives say they seized 16 illegal firearms, three unlawfully possessed firearms, numerous firearm components and a “significant amount” of ammunition from a Santa Rosa Valley residence.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation began in May when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security intercepted internationally shipped packages destined for one of the two teens, who was believed to be residing in the 2000 block of Blanchard Road

Most incels are pretty leftwing and many of them have started to argue for the "socialization of sex" which would mean that people have to have sex with each other by random lot.

A stupid, stupid idea on many levels, but I mean, it is socialism. From those that have to those that need right? And a number of the early communes actually tried things sort of like this.

154 About two decades ago, I knew a lawyer. Rural America. He owned a Jag. Doesn't own it anymore, though. Why not? Because he had a lead foot. And since it was a rural county, they only had court once a month. So the local cops would check for the day court was in session, then park by the hill leading down into town. Didn't matter if he was speeding... they always pulled him over, because how many farmers own a Jag?

So they'd ticket him if he was speeding, or just harass him if he wasn't. It was pretty funny, but yeah, that would be annoying as all get out if it was me.

I have not touched it. Too damned cold. Job #1 right now is replace a bad U-joint on the 2008 Suburban, as it will be my transport to AZ. Also, a fairly easy task, even in cold weather.

I have a spare steering box, sitting in another naked chassis. If the '08 proves to need more than a U-joint, I will pull the spare steering box, throw it in the back of the '99, and come down in it. It doesn't steer that bad, just not as good as it should be.

277 Some prayers and laughs. Wednesday: SiL #1 mom went into intensive care. SiL #2 father had a stroke. Both seem like they are going to be fine without any side effects. Thanksgiving Day, FiL had a seizure episode. Thought the ornery SOB was going to die in my arms. He snapped out of it and had a few lines for the ages: Me going through stroke questions, “Who is the President?” FiL, “Finally, the right guy.” EMT to FiL, “How are you doing?” FiL, “Fine other than 4 ugly guys in my house that I don’t know.” EMT: “Squeeze my fingers.” FiL, “You want me to break them? How are you going to pick your nose?”

I get angry and bored when I have to do extra work for free so I'm laughing at that poor crew LOL Hahahaha

There were many complaints at Powerline; the response was, the ads are computer selected by the number of times a word appears in the blog threads. A keyword search initiates what the subject of the advertising would be. They used Googleitics or something like that. That's when I got my first adBlocker.

Nothing new. I worked in the comm manufacturing sector for decades, and the usual purchasing cycle for a new product was on the order of 5 years to volume buys.
A year of marketing ads, trade shows etc. Another year of sales coming presentations to top brass and engineering. Another year of engineering doing lab qualifications. And... Another year of initial installs and training of Operating Company staff, and finally orders in sufficient quantity to start amortizing design and development costs.
I got out :-) during the dot boom, and found that electric utility companies run on the same sort of schedule. Seems to have something to do with being highly regulated.

305 Thanks for the ONT WD.

That happiest day of my life bit was cool. It gave me a great entree to share what today was like for me. It was pretty much the opposite.

They called to ask do another procedure on Jules, basically due to their incompetence. When I call back to check they say she has been moved to Critical Care. I'm thinking something bad happened. Finally find out she was moved from her room because they a trauma patient who needed it.

Then this Dr calls from Dad's rehab place and pretty much tells me he's going to die soon. OK, I knew that but is just a shitty day.

Get home and trying to decompress, some wine and leftovers, put the dogs out and Flash slips his collar after a bit. Can't get him in, he's an inquisitive 16 month old Gordon Setter, they are stubborn.

After 20 minutes I call the police, number in the phone book goes to city hall and they are closed. WTF! So I call 911, they notify the police, and then 20 minutes later the dog shows up at the back door.

Call police and let them know he's caught. Then sit down, have another drink and read AOS after one of the worst days of my life.

The mass shootings perpetrated in malls would tend to counter that. IMHO, main reason for malls? Being able to shop in a courtyard-like atmosphere in all seasons in shirtsleeve comfort. Upstairs was the better answer. Buses routed by the malls became a 'diversity' form of entertainment. Easy access. Usually lots of whyite pipple with cash. That's when malls started going down, at least in the area in which I grew up. Late 1980s/early '90s. Then came the downfall of the anchor stores, the ones that were on a corner and also served as mall entrances; Monkey Ward, J.C. Penny, et.al. Those two were enough to be the kisses of death but then toss in a high rent smooch and, in mafia terms, it's over. The final nail was the internet. Who needs Spencer's Gifts anymore? Or Hickory Farms? (Although I do miss the free samples/lunch.) Mall bookstores? 'Tis to laugh. (And I used to work for Barnes & Noble/B. Dalton.)

Pellet stove still running, *knock on wood* but it's only been a week since I last worked on it. Found/fixed a couple of issues that I hadn't though of as issues before. Huh, we'll see.

Also bought a different brand of pellets. These didn't appear to have such long pieces as the previous brand, but do seem to be more powdery. Will need to screen the last bit of each bag, rather than just dumping it into the hopper.

Thinking back, one of the longest surviving, and most profitable, B. Dalton's was in a mall in Florida. That controlled atmosphere in a 'lousy weather to shop oustide' area you're talking about. Just heat and humidity, not snow and wind chills.

I have more than my share of old fart, don't give a fuck moments.

Changing subjects, cold cuts are not meant to be eaten cold. Room temperature or above, with some preferring to be heated. But room temp works. So for breakfast a turkey/ham/bacon sammich on a roll, with a homemade dijonaisse (added later). I'll do the corned beef hash tomorrow. Between all the potatoes, peppers and onions, don't feel like dealing with all that dicing right now. So sammich it is.

349 Yeah, publius, it ain't gettin' any warmer here either.

Frost on my patio table & everything is all sparkly outside.

Better than the 100+ degree summer swelter, though!

351 We're running out of leftovers here, haha. Got a nice chuck roast for Saturday dinner. Mmm, pot roast!

We demolished the turkey, mash & gravy, deviled eggs already. Had to buy another pumpkin pie for our breakfasts. There's a bit of candied yams still-- hubby can have it.

One of the cats wanted out. It didn't last long. He came back inside quickly, and demanded treats.

355 I've went by several nicks over the years and pissed off more than my fair share of regulars around here. I'm not gonna change until ace makes us register to comment.

Don't like me or what I type? I have one recommendation, just fuck the right off. I don't know how to be clearer than that.

Thats the attitude you should have when posting. Don'
t whine and don't even respond when somebody directs shit toward you.

In the end, it aint nothing at all.

Have a good weekend!!!

357 De-banking was mentioned earlier today in reference to Mrs. Trump and her son Baron. Here's a guest with Joe Rogan talking about a number of people being de-banked.
