I am almost to start using a paper clamp to keep it to the end and not keep going back to the closed end.

50 I watched The Long Goodbye, an Elliott Gould movie from the '70s. I pretty much liked this noir although it's more atmosphere than anything else. One thing I did like that I'd never seen before was the use of the theme song. It's heard throughout the movie but usually only excerpts and as a part of the plot. For example, in one scene, a lounge pianist attempts to learn the song as Philip Marlowe, Elliott Gould, drinks and converses with the bartender. In another scene, an amateur marching band plays it while leading a funeral procession. It’s playing on the car radio as Marlowe drives etc. The lyrics reveal that the long goodbye is the missed opportunity you didn't take, particularly romantic, although it's defined more darkly in the plot. Also, Sterling Hayden is great as a faded author who is drunk and crazy.

56 The very definition of a first world problem: my toilet kept running. The float was broken, and I needed to replace the whole fill valve. Drain the toilet, unscrew the water valve and a bunch of other stuff, install the new part, and put everything back together. I think it's working, but I did notice a few drips, so now I need to tighten everything and then just...keep an eye on it.

My sympathies. One thing that was drilled into me, and that I try to tell everyone in the housing industry; make sure every home has a path with 3-0 doors from the outside continuous to the laundry/mechanical room. That saves a lot of problems.

Oh, my elderly mother uses a Systane eye gel at night. It's in the tiniest freaking tube for over $12 Can.

An incredibly tiny tube. She's elderly so I help her and squeeze out the rest of the gel from the tube when the easy part is done. I get three or four more days out of them.

That's just crazy and wasteful.

Since I don't watch NFL anymore (last weekend was the exception, we were visiting relatives for an early Thanksgiving), it appears to me the running QB is all the rage, and I think the league is shittier for it.

I'm just gonna say, what they're looking for in a QB, all those running and gunning qualities, they're presumably losing in field generalship.

My sympathies. One thing that was drilled into me, and that I try to tell everyone in the housing industry; make sure every home has a path with 3-0 doors from the outside continuous to the laundry/mechanical room. That saves a lot of problems.

Speaking of inches, my shower walls should be taller, and the entire stall should be about 4" wider.

I hate that the top of my head gets cold, and when it's time to towel off, which I want to do IN the shower, I have to watch my elbows, lest I put them through the glass.

One of these days... it's not a priority, that spa tub comes out, or the sinks get narrowed or something. There's plenty of space, it just isn't being used well.

3-0 is standard in commercial construction, 2-10 is the bare minimum required for ADA (wheelchair) passage. In homes, 2-8 and 2-6 are pretty common, as that feels right in a lot of rooms, and (in the past) was just fine for most things that were going in. Hence why it's important to actually think about door sizes and make special provisions for mechanical equipment and other large furniture...

Our latest FWPs were a continuously-bleeping battery backup and a long-time reliable coffee maker that started shutting off 'way too soon. The solution to both was obvious: order new ones. Both appliances immediately began behaving correctly again, before the replacements arrived.

Same with second floor and the stairway and stairwell. Most stairways have 90 degree turns, up 3 steps take a 90, at the same time where is the ceiling. If the piece is big there must be room to make the turn, clear the floor and the ceiling at the same time.
A sleeper sofa may also qualify as a no-go.

Speculation time: Epstein had more than one boss, more than one agency in more than one country for whom he worked. He was an asset, and could be counted on to give valuable information to whichever one was paying him at that time.

These governments are mostly allies. Mostly. But not always, and the reason he was "caught," and the reason he was killed (faked death or not) is because of disagreements between the different nations.

Americans were bad enough, but the Brits weren't just incompetent, when it was discovered they had commies working for them, they tried to cover it up, and keep the commies where they were, to avoid embarrassment, or whatever.

I don't think there is much separation between our intel community and spy shops around the world.

Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine's father, worked for the Brits and possibly the Israelis. The work together and spy on each other.
