I initially thought it was Cholera the intestinal illness until I read this: A cholera is a pastry filled with potatoes, vegetables, fruits and cheese, originated from the Valais region of Switzerland.
Originally, the local ingredients for such a dish were apples, pears, potatoes, onions, leeks, raclette cheese (usually Gomser) and bacon. The dish is mostly known in the region of Valais within Switzerland. Posted by: Stinky at December 02, 2024 09:34 AM (GTF0J) 25

In late December of 1848, cholera, described a century later as “America’s greatest scourge”, made a return visit to the fast-growing city of New Orleans, sixteen years after the “brief, but destructive” epidemic of 1832. This visit, which “paralyzed business and left the city in shambles” was attributed to the arrival of a passenger ship from Liverpool and Le Havre with 1000 immigrants on December 22 of 1948, despite that the first local death from cholera had been reported on December 13 of that year. This “quick but destructive” outbreak claimed the lives of 3,000 residents of New Orleans in two months.
The Times-Picayune reported relentlessly on these events, the growth of which confounded the newspaper, given its report on January 1 of 1849 that cholera “yields readily to medical treatment”. Posted by: rhennigantx at December 02, 2024 09:40 AM (gbOdA) 59

Morning, ARt Folken,
This looks more like a Victorian/Tsarist era murder mystery stage scene. The woman being pinned against the far wall on the right is the major suspect, the dead man's wife, perhaps. But investigation proves she could not have done it -- she had no access to the murder weapon, or was physically in the wrong spot according to the witnesses. Which simply means that, after suspciion devolves on a few other suspects -- perhaps the drunken guy on the far left with his legs stiffly outstretched -- the final scene proves that she was indeed the murderer. The detective? Perhaps it's the ineffectual-looking young man in the tan coat behind them. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 02, 2024 09:49 AM (J2vNu) 101

Joe Biden didn't pardon Hunter simply because he loves his son.He pardoned him because it clearly was a targeted prosecution by Republicans who wanted to discredit and harass Hunter's father, and because Hunter has paid his dues. A pardon is entirely appropriate and just.
It is something he must do because you cannot trust the 47 administration to be anything other than vindictive. prediction: the media will throw 10x the fit over this than ANYTHING drumpf does. As if Biden "setting an example" will stop drumpf from all the bullshit he is going to do. I'll bet he's sad about it. Not because it’s not right, but in a reasonable world he wouldn’t have to in order to protect him from the monsters. for all the whining and bitching about witch hunts against Trump, republicans have gone after Hunter ferociously and made him pay consequences well above the level of his wrongdoing. ----------- Out of Sight was good. Maybe just the scenes with Jennifer Lopez in a Dolphins uniform. Posted by: SH (no more socks) at December 02, 2024 10:45 AM (sX1BW) ======= What you'll end up finding is that most of Clooney's good movies are because he was working with good filmmakers, like Steven Soderbergh. The obsession with following actors is an archaic and incomprehensible system for searching out movies. The star system was developed to do a very specific thing: sell movies with specific actors tied to specific types of movies (typecasting). Once actors stopped being contract players, the whole system fell apart but the PR agents needed work while the studio heads needed some kind of explanation for why some movies succeed and others don't. Clooney and Brad Pitt also made a solid team in the modern Ocean's Eleven films. In the mid-'90s, whenever U.N.C.L.E. fans would talk about imaginary casting for a possible modern movie, Clooney's name came up more often than anyone's for the role of Napoleon Solo. And looking at his performances in From Dusk and Ocean's Eleven, you can really see it.
The bigger challenge would have been casting Illya Kuryakin. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 02, 2024 10:47 AM (J2vNu) 305
