It's a huge problem in all border communities. Foreigners (mostly Indians) fly to Canada then walk across the border in to the US and get driven to major cities from there.
It is one of the largest land borders in the world, and is almost entirely undefended.
We need to nip this in the bud.

Obviously we have much less of a need for Mexico than Mexico does for us.
Our major factories that moved to Mexico under NAAFTA (car manufacturing, for example), should be repatriated anyways. The rest of what Mexico produces (fruits, vegetables, cheap shittily made trinkets) can be made /grown in the US or in number of other countries around the world.
Yes, it will cost slightly more to ship avocados from Ecuador or whatever. But that's life.
Also, the avocado / drug cartel situation is reason enough to stop importing avocados (look it up, it's a wild story). Also, I can survive the rest of my life without ever eating another avocado if necessary.

Canada has their own problems, they already semi-resent the US, and securing the border / stopping drug flow is just not a high priority as of right now.
Canada's biggest domestic problem right now seems to be Indian Immigrants.

Plenty of room for Mexico to crack down on Chinese imports of pharmaceutical chemicals, to prosecute drug gangs, go after the producers, etc.
But probably the easiest way they can show they're helping is by stopping the drugs from going to the US border.

And our tariffs would likely hurt produce exports immediately. I don't think Mexico can endure that for very long.
It might take a while for tariffs to hurt car part exports (or whatever else MX makes), but truck farmers (fruits & vegetables) will get the message FIRST. Plus, the U.S has alternate sources for those crops-- CA; Central America.
In addition, cooperation w/ Trump on border issues will cost MX essentially nothing. Because by now, a yuuge percentage of wets are OTMs (in ICE parlance)-- "other Than Mexico."

And based on an incident I witnessed last year, they were being let in by USCBP at a regular border crossing. Just got off a bus on the Canuck side, walked right by me in the car lane, spoke briefly with the agent handling the cars, and were escorted around behind the building where the lobby entrance is. I'm sure the border agents were doing this under orders from the Junta.

I don't see it that way. There is no reason we can't manufacture everything here. More expensive, yes, but will also raise the wages of people here.
But even if we don't bring it back to the US, there are a lot of countries in this world with large labor pools that work for near-slave wages under horrible conditions and do very half assed work for the most part that aren't called China or Mexico.

Also, serious question, why not just threaten the president of Mexico directly? She is a figurehead for a cartel run criminal state. 20 years out of a refrigerator. 15 years out of a water heater.
I've replaced the washer/dryer, refrigerator, and water heater at least 3 times in 15 years.
Everything is Junk now. Buying the warranty is the most important part of an appliance purchase anymore.

The USSR was dead and gone before we got cozy with China. In the cold war the idea was to divide the two.
The 1990s were when it became trendy to give tech to China to build there. Saved them a few bucks, got pictures in the trade magazines. Then the Chinese stole their products and built them themselves and ran them out of business. By then the original whiz kid smart guys were retired.
