Unless there is some political or moral back story to this, it's funny and done with Rockwell's realistic detail along with the exaggerated people features. I always love the way he paints hands and facial textures.
A more realistic American scene might have been with some older guy asleep on the sofa, an empty pie plate on his belly, mouth open and snoring while kids run around the room creating havoc. I hope this painting represents your Thanksgiving meal. Posted by: JTB at November 29, 2024 09:41 AM (yTvNw) 49

I see the French government might fall. Why?
Well the "center/unity" government that was designed to freeze out Le Pen's anti-immigration party has been spending like a drunken sailor and they are out of money. What did they spend all their money on you might ask? Why immigrants and refugees of course. Yes those same immigrants that the FNM is always telling us are an economic boom. Le Pen herself is trying to force the government to vote down measures that would instead cut out aid to the immigrants instead of robbing French citizens blind which is a smart move politically. This will be the critical battle of the Trump II administration. The Dems will fight tooth and nail, saying it's about Constitutional state control of elections, so the Feds can't interfere. Something else to consider: a huge part of Dem voters come from the Boomer demographic and that is fading. You know the ones - people who still think it's the party of JFK, won't listen to the facts, just keep pulling the lever because that's what they've always done. I know lots of people like that, and they are getting up there in age.
Gen X has finally overtaken the Boomers demographically and that dominance will only grow. Boomers voted 50-49 Dem, Gen X was 55-45. So even setting aside policy victories and election reform, the trend for the Dems does not look good. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at November 29, 2024 10:28 AM (ZOv7s) 202

NJ/CT have a lot of jobs ultimately tied to finance. These people are winnable with a Trump slate of policies. Not easy to win...but winnable. The Democrats of 1982 are nowhere near this insane. They actually believed in strong borders and that trannies were freaks and weirdos, not America's most precious and put-upon minority. Texas was still solidly Democrat in 1982. And yet the people who were blue dog democrats then are the people who are red republicans today, believing most of the same things. This will be the critical battle of the Trump II administration. The Dems will fight tooth and nail, saying it's about Constitutional state control of elections, so the Feds can't interfere. They can if one party is disenfranchising the rest of the country. Then the trick will be to make it impossible for the Dems to use that control to recapture power in a later administration.

So update to that Australian law about banning those under 16 years of age from social media platforms that has passed their House but still awaits debate in their Senate...
According to this article over at Soylent News: https://is.gd/joUWSB === Once the bill gets through the Senate -- expected this week -- the platforms would have a year to work out how to implement the age restriction, without using government-issued identity documents (passport, driving licenses), and without digital identification through a government system. === My earlier suspicion stands that this isn't about getting compliance, it's about being able to milk these tech companies for large fines, like Europe is doing. Using an IP geofence around Australia and banning the entire country from the platform(s) seems to be the sanest and easiest response. Let the electorate sort out their stupid politicians. Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at November 29, 2024 10:52 AM (D6PGr) --- No, there were anti-communist Democrats back in the day, but they're all extinct. Scoop Jackson Dems, they called them. JFK was very anti-Communist as were the labor leaders. Remember the hard-hat riot in New York where the workers tore into the hippies? Some of those people continue to blindly vote Dem, but others have changed sides because they know what time it is. My point is that we can't retrofit the past to suit the future. The Dems really have shifted to the hard left more than ever before. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at November 29, 2024 10:55 AM (ZOv7s) 270
