The Chinese owned Newnew Polar Bear cargo ship dragged anchor across the Balticconnect energy pipeline between Estonian and Finland leaving a kilometers long furrow on the Finnish Sea bottom. Photographs by Russians of the ship at its quay showed a missing anchor. The Finns found the broken anchor. Months later the Chinese admitted the NNPB was involved in the incident.

18 Evening and morning to all the early risers and late toilers! Is it really Woden's Day?

I'm up a little later than usual. No coffee or breakfast until later; I have to have blood drawn at the doctor at 8 a.m. I'm waking up with some ice water. In a bit I'll change stretch, and work out; shave and shower; pack up everything, including my breakfast to be, and head off to work. When I get back from the doctor, I'll microwave some chow and drink some coffee.

37 Morning, JQ,

Yes, thirty days from today is, I think, the last work day before the Xmas break. Plus we lose next Thursday and Friday. It won't give much time to advertise for my replacement and interview people. But if I work until the end of Jan., they'll have time. On the other hand, the budget development period starts on Feb. 1. Unless they hire someone internal, and they probably will, the new person will have a long uphill climb to get the budget done by March 15.

Not really my problem, of course. But working on until Jan. 31 would give me two full months' more pay.

G-Captain:

“a day after the C-Lion1 and BCS subsea data cables in the Baltic Sea, connecting Finland and Germany as well as Sweden and Lithuania, were damaged […]

Danish authorities appear to have narrowed down a possible culprit to Chinese bulker Yi Peng 3, which traveled over the reported incident site at the time of the failure.

Its AIS track shows the vessel drifting back and forth for around an hour the morning of November 18.”

Every cockamamie, blue sky, run it up the flag pole, stupid thing she thought would be good I agreed to.
I thought women were supposed to be smart.

May 27th of that year, I gave here 4 weeks notice. Boss had a smile on her face when I told her, thinking she got rid of a pain in the butt, over paid smart ass.
They didn't have a replacement decided on until 2 weeks before I was going to leave, who was the women going on maternity leave in November. She had to train her replacement and learn my job at the same time

I would have loved to been a fly on the wall when all the fun really started.

91 Wolfus, when you walk into your boss's office today, ask him to pull your finger, then wait there in an awkward silence until he does. Then and only then tell him you're retiring. I know this is a little outside the box for retirement notices, but think how much enjoyment you're going to get over the years remembering that moment. Besides, what are they going to do fire you?

92 After my husband passed I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I could not go back to work and that it was time to retire. I'd worked way past the retirement age and the thought of going back to the same old grind literally turned my stomach. Probably one of the few times in my life that I didn't question myself that I was doing the right thing.

Sincere condolences, Tuna.

My hubby is disabled and cannot take care of himself, so I cannot go back to work. Luckily, he doesn't need nursing home yet but when that day comes, it *will* completely break our finances. Ugh.

Congratulations, Bruce. May God bless you both with happiness and strength.

ASHQ is a great place of mutual support and encouragement, but sometimes, IMO, it gets to be the dump on women hour. "All women do this. All women do that" ( negative things) and no, Bruce, you don't do that. Thanks. If you don't mind, since you've been married for so long can you tell me something which you've appreciated about your wife through the years. I like to hear this kind of thing.

102 Wolfus, my advice - for what it is worth - is to retire today. Of course, 2 extra months' pay would be nice, but if you're already financially comfortable, why not enjoy the holidays without the added stress of work?

I wanted to retire at the end of this year, but as I was forced to get a new car, I have to put it off until December 2025, but believe me, as soon as I can retire, I will.

To what end? It's one thing if the replenishment population is hard-working and productive but the kind of Americans who would take up the proposition are the kind that will endlessly demand government smoosh and services.

Or both? She makes these two points, on the "just a song" side:

“YMCA, the gay national anthem,” Trump tells some podcast hosts incredulously in 2022. “Did you ever hear that? They call it ‘the gay national anthem’.”

Trump does really seem to like the music. “What’s the most popular thing in the world?” Ali G – Sacha Baron Cohen’s satirical rapper persona – asked Trump, then the host of The Apprentice, in 2003. “Music,” he responded earnestly, without skipping a beat.
