>>>BlueSky is a new kind of social network.
I see that The Dossier has used the spelling BlueSky. (I haven't read the article yet.) And that seems a good choice, BUT Bluesky itself uses the spelling Bluesky, which leads to more than occasional mispronunciation and was a very bad branding decision--and isn't that the one we should use? Twitter would be a lot better if they hadn’t crippled their non-logged in mobile site. It used to be great, full featured, you could browse everything. I never had any reason to install the native app.
So many sites are moving in that direction: ruin the mobile site so they can force you to install their bloated spyware native app. Half the time it’s just a web app bundled with a browser. Web and mobile tech peaked eight years ago and has been downhill ever since. It’s crazy how much more frustrating every single tech product I use has become. Total trash. Twitter can be like a home library - no one randomly shelves unvetted books.
Individuals: E.g. I follow a few Chinese dissidents, a few English/Irish men and women, a few free thinkers and never follow leftists. All of them are small accounts and most of them follow back. Institutions and media: I follow all of Gavin Newsom's propaganda accounts, Calif. agencies like CalFire and CAL_OES ect. and call them out on their horseshit. I mute or block jerks. Probably in the high hundreds. My follow list rarely exceeds 125 people/institutions. i'm so glad I don't have to hear about Yellowstone any longer I know that a lot of people watched it. but to me, a soap opera with cowboys is still a soap opera. Posted by: Mister Ghost There are a lot of shows of this type. Basically, all of them are how Hollywood works transported to some flyover location. That SciAm article was good for the links, however it failed with this conclusion:
Going forward, Scientific American can right the ship by simply hiring an editor who cares more about science than progressive political goals. That doesn't mean the editor needs to be apolitical or that there's no role for SciAm to chime in on social justice issues in an informed manner, with the requisite level of humility and caution. Social Justice (a vague and meaningless term per se) should not be part of the magazine's purview. Stick to Science. I have more than 100 channels on tv. And there is nothing on I care about watching. The worst is the so-called reality shows. Just a bunch of stupid junk. I wish my provider would just let me pick the few channels I wanted (it would cost less) and I would be happier with it. But then that would make too much sense.
Posted by: Case at November 19, 2024 06:20 AM (NMZGW) But then the people who matter would have to pay more for the channels that they watch. The cord, cut it. You'll never miss it. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at November 19, 2024 06:23 AM (ExV1e) 103

It seems to be happening a lot with organic vegetables. Might be something to do with no herbicides or pesticides. That doesn't mean the editor needs to be apolitical or that there's no role for SciAm to chime in on social justice issues in an informed manner, with the requisite level of humility and caution. Frankly, I don't care what political opinions the editor may have so long as they don't bleed into the pages. And "humility" and "caution" are antithetical to leftism. That and the gerbils... But seriously, John Waters and the mostly execrable B 52s?
Hunter Felt @hunterfelt.bsky.social The B-52's being an unabashedly cheerful party band at the peak of the AIDS crisis, reaching their biggest success after losing their most important band member to the disease. If it weren't for them and John Waters a lot of us would have been lost in the 80s and 90s. Posted by: Mister Ghost at November 19, 2024 06:34 AM (TGPs7) 114
