Top Story

TSMC has found a second bomb on the construction site for its latest fab. (Tom's Hardware)

There's nothing nefarious afoot, though: The new factory is being built on the former site of a Japanese oil refinery from World War II.

A 1000-pound bomb was found there in August, and a second 500-pound bomb made its unwelcome presence known this week.

I like the flavour. It's still there with the seasoning I use but not overwhelming. I'm experimenting with different types of flour; chickpea flour is also good. Tapioca starch works okay and has no flavour of its own, but doesn't hold together as well.

63 Good morning! Gonna be another bright sunshiny day here in Cowtown.

Currently I have a box fan in the garage window that runs continuously to keep the space cool and ventilated. Yesterday, I got a 14 inch ventilation fan with a louvered frame to install in the ceiling and some vents to install in the door. The fan even has a thermostat and a remote. Very bougie.

Looking forward to having a cooler workspace and being able to shut the window when I'm away.

68 I am not huge on buckwheat. I’ve only had buckwheat crêpes and to be honest I didn’t really like them that much.

I did have a win last night. I made fried chicken and it came out amazing with little to no effort. Sure, I have some basic cooking skills, but everyone makes legit fried chicken into this really complicated thing that is hard to do right at home. I cut up some chicken parts. Mixed them with corn flour and seasoning, and threw them in a pot of hot oil. That was the entire recipe. I mentioned this to brag a bit because I didn’t use thermometers or eight different steps but also because I think I figured out that corn flour not cornmeal but corn flour Works really good with fried chicken.

Stirling just threw up -- I caught him in time and got him onto the tile floor of the kitchen. The cats do not like Rachael Ray's Nutrish dry food. I bought a small bag to carry them through until this weekend, but Dagny, a picky creature at the best of times, turns up her little short nose at it, and now Stirling has tossed up what he ate. Not a normal response to food from that cat.

What do you want, you furry monsters? I mixed good ol' Friskies canned food with it. C'mon, man!

Friday morning, a longtime Gov worker came in the office and was harrumphing about the future SecDef (hopefully). The future SecDef was just a mere major. Just a Fox Newz personality. Just not ready. I told him we've had nothing but flag officers galore in the SecDef role for decades and it's getting worse and worse. How about trying something different. That was greeted with a grumble grumble. So, the longtime bureaucrats know its broke but do not want it fixed. Won't even admit to who broke it and how. The five sided nut house along the Potomac is a red-hot mess.

Not sure what to do today. I have some shopping, but the pens in the kennel also need to be cleaned. Also the lawn needs another going over, but to do that I have to replace the gas filter on the mower. Last time after I ran it for a while, I kept losing power when the deck was engaged.

123 116, I am not sure if it is nationwide, but I checked on the net so I’m thinking it is. But Wally world is selling a bunch of the reserve Wine Master wines at half-price. The regular selection is about five bucks a bottle and the reserve selections are around four dollars a bottle normally about 10 bucks. Here it is not all of the wines, but the Sauvignon Blanc for sure and I think also the Cabernet. I know where I live people love a deal, but they’re missing out on this one. I guess that’s why they’re down selling it, but it is weird when the reserve is less costly than the average plonk. End never let them tell you Quint isn’t a good guy because most people wouldn’t tell the entire world if they thought there was a deal there lol

When I lived in Ohio, I'd always like seeing winter wheat pop up and later start growing. Now that I'm in the Southland, I try to determine in the fall what's going to be grown next year by how the fields are plowed. While we generally see corn, soybeans and occasionally sorghum, my favorite is rice.

This is a great idea. They are easy enough to make too. I'm a pretty good shot with one and used to wow the Cub Scouts with my skill at punching holes in the center of a pie pan with chickpeas and my homemade slingshot.

I didn't think much of it at first, but he kept wanting to tinker with that chemistry set. Then he wanted some models and other related stuff, and now he's asking for books for Christmas. So it seems to be more than just a passing fad. We'll see.

I explained to him that he'd be taking on the equivalent of two or three majors combined, and that I'd do whatever I could to help. Which would mean tutors most likely, because there's a reason I didn't pursue chemistry.

He's wired a bit differently mentally, so maybe that developmental/social tradeoff will be the key. It's funny because a few years ago we weren't even sure if he was going to be "average" academically.

Anyway, thanks for that inspiration.
