After more than fifty years, I still laugh out loud at the climax of that scene, where Felix spears Oscar's cast-off cigar with his umbrella and holds it up accusingly.

When he and Klugman were doing The Sunshine Boys on stage years later, Randall used the same bit of business, and the audience, remembering, roared.

The intel community knows Marco Rubio is run by the Cubans. He also hates Donald Trump. Why would he even be in consideration for any position at all in a Trump administration? That would be pure insanity/suicide.

Randall Carlson
@randallwcarlson

The sudden, catastrophic melting of ancient ice sheets unleashed millions of cubic kilometers of water into ocean basins, marking a period between 14,000 and 13,000 years ago that could only be described as a thousand years of hell on Earth. This rapid meltdown reshaped landscapes and challenged survival for those who lived through it.

Meh. It was a tepid attempt to lay that turd on the table. After he pointed out the 10M vote downturn, he should have asked her directly why there's no media interest in such a huge loss of votes. Were voters suppressed, were they just ambivalent, were they fake to begin with? And his sleeves weren't rolled up so he wasn't serious anyway.

Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at November 13, 2024 05:22 AM (3Ope8)

49 @40/pookysgirl: That's part of why I'm glad I'm out of tech. The ever-increasing treadmill speed was making me miserable. I was thrown off it, but once thrown, I realized I never wanted to get back on that thing again. Problem was, all my experience was in that field, so I had to be willing to retrain into a different one and get on with my life. Daunting, frightening even, but worth it in the long run.

Tell Pooky to pick something he thinks he could enjoy doing that can't be outsourced. Heck, could be something like running a forklift for a dock operation (that's not what I do now but it's an example.) Something that has day to day challenges that can be overcome which gives one a nice feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day. There's a lot of satisfaction in "Yeah. I solved that and it mattered. I did good today."

He was a forklift driver for a paint factory after he got out of the USAF and enjoyed it but his mental illness caught up with him. He's been volunteering at Pookette's school library for one hour twice a week, and that's the closest he has to a job outside the home. At home, of course, he's helping raise our two kids.

The tech curve worries stem from being on the tech and website committees at church, I think. He really wants to use his gifts but never was trained on apps (the US military doesn't trust stuff that reports everything back to China, for some odd reason).

69 For us mortals that rely on brand [fill in your favorite evil empire] for email I have found over the last 10 years Microsoft’s Outlook email to be quite stable and useful. Prior to that, it was something of a hot mess if you were using the desktop Outlook application as it would not sync calendar information across various machines to cite one example. Today it is one of those software apps one takes for granted because it works so well.

As for the new web-based version of Outlook, well, it’s not my favorite. However, it does work sort of, kind of, reasonably well, while lacking the snap of the native app and a significant number of features found in the desktop version. I definitely will be one of those that will use the desktop version till the bitter end which is coming in a few years. Hopefully by then Microsoft will have built-in approximate parity between the two.

I have been using Pulse for texting over the last 6 or 7 years precisely because it's cross-platform. The interface is mostly well designed and it only gets confused occasionally which requires a resync. When I started using it I bought a lifetime license to it for about $40 which is proven to have been a bargain. I don't know their current pricing, if any, but it's at least worth looking at.

"U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced Mike Huckabee would be the next U.S. ambassador to Israel. Huckabee is a proponent of Greater Israel, and has had close relations with Israeli settlers and the Yesha Council, an umbrella organization of municipal councils of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, throughout the course of his political career."

The US Left is going to lose its mind.

96 I have always found Trump's use of YMCA amusing. The song is a great hook filled anthem with a killer chorus, but if you listen to the lyrics carefully, it's about gay hookups at the YMCA. Like I said, it's highly amusing.

Me too, Fen. When I first heard it on the radio in '78, I thought it was a jingle, a tune written for a PSA about the actual YMCA. I loved it from the first, and still do.

98 Alteria, Thank you. That's pretty mild for the likes of Haaretz.

106 After she was raped by that mob in Egypt years ago Lara Logan came back a changed woman.

It’s sad that’s what it took to open her eyes to the state of Western civilization and especially our media landscape,

But she’s gone so far to the side of paranoia that you’d be forgiven for confusing her with Lara Loomer, which I did when I read what she said about Rubio up above.

I mean, if you’re going to accuse Marco of being a Cuban asset you should at least provide a little proof. Otherwise you risk sounding like a loon.

Which is a shame because I’ve always liked Lara Logan being as beautiful and talented as she is.

108 "I wonder if this is not an opportune time to reel the Cuban people in? Why wouldn't that be something worth pursuing?"

I've been saying the same thing for a long time.

When, exactly do you say a policy has failed?

109 FWIW, downloading the data is as painless as possible.
I did today, in less than 10 minutes.
I held off deleting the data until my husband and I had the opportunity to confer later today. But, yeah, I probably will.
I will be forever grateful to 23 & Me for uniting my husband and an unknown son. It has been my privilege to add to our family, despite the risks of having our personal information vulnerable to the reach of nefarious interests.

110 AI's most useful and interesting aspect was the ability for relatively inexperienced people to create quite amazing artwork - not original, but certainly pretty/interesting.
I like to think of that use as a replacement for generic clipart.
