The Morning Report (11/13/24) Substitute Edition

*****

Good morning Morons. J.J. asked me to fill in him for him the remainder of the week as his computer remains held hostage. He didn't say that I couldn't have a Mystery Click or a video below the fold.

So you will get those along with the following.............

  • POTUS-Elect Donald Trump keeps the top notch picks coming. Trump taps former intelligence chief to serve as new CIA director

  • Be still my beating heart. RFK Jr. suggests 600 people from the National Institutes of Health will be fired on day one of Trump’s second term

  • What a horrible way to go. Aren't EVs to die for? Friends trapped in fireball Tesla burned to death as 'doors failed' after crash

  • Maybe math isn't Senator Fetterman's top subject. We really don't need you to approve when we are in the majority. John Fetterman Endorses Marco Rubio for Secretary of State

  • Excuse me if I don't get overly excited about "upcoming hearings". House Republicans demand Biden Cabinet members preserve all documents, communications

  • I feel better now. These emotionally retarded idiots will not reproduce. Report: Women Stockpile Abortion Pills, Men Schedule Vasectomies After Election

  • Perhaps this Prof and her class will follow the Self-sterilization route. Michigan State prof offers students 'free bonus points' for showing up to class after Trump win

  • Good luck with retirement. Denzel Washington announces he’s retiring after next batch of films — including ‘Black Panther 3’

  • Genius Award Winner! Missing father faked death, left country to meet with another woman: Wisconsin sheriff

24 As the parties argue the case, it centers on whether the Agencies complied with regulations of the Council on Environmental Quality, an entity within the Executive Office of the President. We will not address these arguments. The CEQ regulations, which purport to govern how all federal agencies must comply with the National Environmental Policy Act, are ultra vires.

37 Regarding the Tesla fire -

This same exact thing happened right around he corner from my house earlier this summer.

Guy was doing "travelling at excessive speed" on a 35mph road in his Tesla... went off the road, hit a tree.

Burned to a crisp inside his car. They think he couldn't get out because his remains were in the backseat area.

At least thats what the first responder I spoke to indicated they think happened.

If your car doesn't have a mechanical linkage from the handle to the door latch, I would trade it in immediately.

The problem with EV's is that there's "bugs" but then there is their fundamentally fatal flaw: Energy Density.

They can claim to come up with some wizzbang new battery tech that will hold a billion kajillion kilowattojoules but the problem is *how do you f'in charge it up in a reasonable amount of time*?

See that is a math problem. kWh = kW * hours. If you try to decrease the time (hours), you have to increase the kW (which is Voltage * Amperage).

Just think, when you convert the gas pump to a common energy unit where you can compare electricity and petroleum - your gas pump is operating at the same rate as about a 10 MEGAwatt charger.

There ain't no way that we're going to build our energy infrastructure up to the point where every charging station can have a MEGAwatt charger for everyone that needs one - like we have right now for ICE vehicles.

83 Washington says she was just adhering to agency policy, and her supervisor OK’d her order: It was no “isolated” incident, as Biden’s FEMA folks claim.

An ex-FEMA official backs up that claim, telling The Post that bypassing Trump-backers has long been an open secret at the agency, as part of a larger policy of discrimination under Biden’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion directives.

84 actually inside the beltway: "Watched a video clip of Lindy Li, a DNC power broker and she was angry that the Harris campaign misled her supporters and wasted SO MUCH money."

Wasn't she saying that Biden/Harris "promised" her (and her allies) a win? Um, yeah. About that. The idea is that you are supporting a campaign because you approve their agenda (relative to others), not that you're buying a ticket to access. I get the sense that she thought she was buying her way into actual, tangible influence.

And if that's the case, it's a most cynical, anti-democratic position to take when you're supposed to be doing things that will improve a country.

I suggest she never go to Vegas. The house always wins and you'll go broke after all the promise and tease.

Johnathan Alter (LOL, I didn't know he was still in media after reefing Newsweek) said he'll be hiding illegals in his attic like Anne Frank if Homan is in charge of the border.

I suggest on Day 1 that Homan orders a gratuitously aggressive raid on Alter's home, where ICE tears the place apart back to the wall studs looking for these aliens that Alter said he'd be hiding. Both to set the tone, and for the laughs, but mostly for the laughs.

It was first chanted by Catholics during the First Crusade in 1096 as a rallying cry, most likely under the form Deus le veult or Deus lo vult, as reported by the Gesta Francorum (c. 1100) and the Historia Belli Sacri (c. 1130).

115 Just think, when you convert the gas pump to a common energy unit where you can compare electricity and petroleum - your gas pump is operating at the same rate as about a 10 MEGAwatt charger.

There ain't no way that we're going to build our energy infrastructure up to the point where every charging station can have a MEGAwatt charger for everyone that needs one - like we have right now for ICE vehicles.

It's not just an infrastructure problem. Converting electrical energy to chemical energy produces heat. The faster you do that conversion, the more heat is generated. Reality laughs at the pretensions of man.

139 Somebody needs to come up with something on McConnell so he can retire.

Kentucky has a Democrat Governor. Kentucky has a law which states that the Governor must appoint an interim Senator from a list provided by the legislative caucus of the party that the Senator being replaced is from (nominally Republican in this case). The Governor says that the law is at odds with the state Constitution and will not abide. Getting rid of McConnell early, at best, sees no one in that seat for an extended period. That, in turn, gives more power to Collins, Murk, et al.

We should just take up a collection to get JJ a new laptop and an external HDD enclosure for him to take his old hard drive out and map it to his new computer.

I've been working on PC's since my Dad brought home a Commodore 64/128 back in 1986 or so. I remember him saying "Learn how to use this, its the future."

And I did. I "learned how to code" by reading the BASIC programs printed in the back of 1..2..3...Contact magazine. Then I started playing with the hardware, built my own 286 by going to these cool old school tech chop shops with my grandfather and using my chore money to pay for memory, sound cards, video cards.

I know, cool story bro. Result of that is to say, in my experience its never worth it to repair a laptop. Just go buy a new one, transfer the contents from old to new and get on with life.

He's a decorated veteran and ivy league educated. He's also a host on Fox News.

I'm not sure where I stand on him. He's definitely well spoken and communicates clearly. He was apparently a Battalion Commander in the Army so he does have leadership experience.

Personally speaking - I prefer people in these cabinet positions who have the right blend of ability and ideology. You can't go too far on either end of that see-saw. If you get someone who is pure ability but not ideologically aligned - you get what he had in his first term. A cabinet of backstabbers and self-servers. But if you go with individuals who are all ideology but no ability, then you get nothing more than commissars and zealots who - while making noises and thrashing about may seem great to the red-meat-eating base - don't actually get anything done.
Those are are both ideologically based and have talent/ability are the ones you want to put front and center in the important positions, but in Trump's case, that bench is rather short I'm afraid.

Trump reached somewhere between 80-90 m while Kamala reached 20 -30 m with her paid and scripted crap. 247 AOC seems to want to be President. How about her as our next nominee? Similar to Trump, AOC appeals to some voters as a realist who's just saying it the way it is.

If Democrats want to commit another political suicide. Identity politics is the downfall of the Democratic Party.

“Identity politics” is a GOP talking point to demonize Democrats for embracing diversity and inclusion. Only racist white people use the term.

Her fan base is very loud and strong, but support drops off quickly outside that small circle. Plenty of Democrats are not fans of her or anyone in The Squad. I think it was summer 2023 she said she didn't know if her future was in Politics anymore.

If we think Kamala Harris motivated RWers & MAGATs like no one else, just wait until AOC is on the ballot. There is misogyny. There is racism. There is BOTH on steroids.

A lefty Latina woman from the Bronx is going to win back all the voters we lost because they didn't want to vote for a moderate Black/Indian woman from California. Suuure. And I fear the sad reality is that no woman of any description will win the presidency in the foreseeable future.

256 The best story of the Trump election IMHO is that one of the architects was his 19 year old son Barron. One of Trump's advisors a 27 yr old told Trump he should do podcasts . Trump told the guy to speak with Barron who knew a lot about podcasts. One that Trump went on was hosted by a friend of Barron and their were about 5-6 others including Rogan. Trump reached somewhere between 80-90 m while Kamala reached 20 -30 m with her paid and scripted crap. The young men and a sizeable minority of young women were reached by that tactic and voted for Trump

I'm asking this in earnest - are we not Judeo-Christians? Do we not believe in the power of redemption, of forgiveness?

Rubio might be what some consider to be GOPe... but for him to stand on that stage and support Trump, after the quite frankly vicious verbal barbs that they threw at each other during the campaign of 2016... It certainly seems to me that he's seen the light. Given his stalwart support of Israel, he certainly seems to be saying the right things.

    Comfort zone.

Macs are a bad value. They're good computers, but whatever they're selling can always be had from a comparable PC for half the money.

But that wasn't always the case. There was a time when a "comparable PC" couldn't be had for any amount of money because they didn't exist. Those days are long in the past, but a lot of people got kicked in back then, and will never feel at home on a PC.

The idea that a car would have a soft switch to open a door when a direct mechanical release is simpler and less expensive is ludicrous. The remote and electronic gizmos are ad-one to what is still a mechanical latch. Designers actually have to go out of their way to design without an actual door handle..

Noem, in general, has been pretty reliable, and sending National Guard troops to the Texas border probably helped sell her to Trump. Her political career, i assume, is hurt by the dog incident, so she gets a lifeline from Trump. She's proven to be fairly effective, and she's loyal in return.

Rubio is more concerning. He's always been, to me, an untrustworthy Establishment soldier. It's POSSIBLE he's seen the political future, spent time with Trump, and gotten on board the train...or he's just a mole hoping to gum things up.

He's run for President before, so getting close to Trump and getting State department experience, in a time of major international deals, may be what he's really focused on. Does Trump trust him, or want him replaced in the senate for some reason?

Comfort zone definitely has a lot to do with it. Apple II in school, Macintosh Classic and SE in college, and various and sundry Macs in the decades since. I use a PC for work and it always feels back-asswards even though I've used it every day for years. The muscle memory just isn't there.

Plus I just like the interface better. In the end, it's very much six of one, half a dozen of the other, so a lot of that is personal preference. And I really miss my iMac G4, the best design for a personal computer ever IMHO.

    ------

Oh, I think it's been sated. This war has been fatal for Ukrainian power. But it's still been a disaster for Russia. Not what Putin banked on. If the Americans are willing to back off, with a promise to fuck Russia right up if she fucks around again, I think Putin will take a reasonable deal. And I think his successor would honor it.

The wild card, of course, is whether Trump's would. This is America, and continuity of diplomatic obligations is a running joke.

As somebody who owns several Apple products, I will say they just work, like 95% of the time, with no problems. Apple also has excellent build quality and some of the best displays in the business.

But when I had to get something new to replace the 2017 iMac (which is now just a file server), I just went ahead and built a new PC.

Apple has gotten so crazy with their upgrade charges on RAM & Storage that I just decided to go with Windows and get four times the RAM & SSD for a cheaper price than the equivalent Mac.

430 Grant’s memoirs were clearly his own voice. What was astounding to 19th century readers was that in an era of overly florid and long winded prose, Grant’s memoirs were both a throwback to Caesar’s treatise on Gaul and a preview of the style Hemingway made popular a couple generations later.
The most incredible part was that Grant, although dying, willed himself to stay alive until he could complete the work, to save his families fortunes. He died less than 2 weeks later.

The name of my late cat "Tatiana Sibirsky" got on a mailing list . . . from AARP.

In fairness to these people, Tatiana's name (thanks to Miss Linda) has been on magazine mailing lists for years. She was born in 2006, so if she were still alive she'd be 18 years old -- at a 1 to 5 ratio of cat years to human, she'd be 90. Still, I doubt she'd have any interst in discounts on prescriptions or a subscription to the AARP Bulletin.

537 The Trump transition team is considering a draft executive order that establishes a “warrior board” of retired senior military personnel with the power to review three- and four-star officers and to recommend removals of any deemed unfit for leadership.

If Donald Trump approves the order, it could fast-track the removal of generals and admirals found to be “lacking in requisite leadership qualities,” according to a draft of the order reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. But it could also create a chilling effect on top military officers, given the president-elect’s past vow to fire “woke generals,” referring to officers seen as promoting diversity in the ranks at the expense of military readiness.

As commander in chief, Trump can fire any officer at will, but an outside board whose members he appoints would bypass the Pentagon’s regular promotion system, signaling across the military that he intends to purge a number of generals and admirals.

Maybe edited and ready to go????

But the interest to distribute and advertise is no longer there.

I liked Pt1 even though it had no ending and was interested in seeing Pt 2.

Originally, Costner planned it as a 4(!) part movie series. So maybe part of the delay is reshoots and re-editing to wrap it up in Pt 2.

    1. They're required by law.

    2. The Cabinet includes the Vice President and the heads of 15 executive departments — the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, as well as the Attorney General.

    3. THEY DIDN"T GO FAR ENOUGH with their little newsworthy order because: "They are joined in this by other executive agencies such as the CIA and Environmental Protection Agency, the heads of which are not part of the Cabinet, but who are under the full authority of the President. The President also appoints the heads of more than 50 independent federal commissions, such as the Federal Reserve Board or the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as federal judges, ambassadors, and other federal offices. 599 Never forget.

May the President & Vice President Elect NOT forget the
    U. S. Government General Services Administration & keep a watchful eye during the transition, for contract review, the storage of foreign gifts to U.S. dignitaries, and more.

    Office of the Administrator overview
Robin Carnahan is the current GSA Administrator.

The agency was established on July 1, 1949, when President Harry S. Truman signed the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act into law.

The GSA Administrator oversees a federal agency of about 11,600 people and an annual budget of approximately $16 billion. The GSA Administrator heads one of three central management agencies in the federal government.

The administrator and the immediate management team are headquartered in our national office in Washington, D.C. We also have 11 regional offices.

    Current News includes:

600 Honestly, Fetterman hasn't given me any particular reason to dislike him.
He's been rock-solid on his support for Israel, at least and he seems to have a number of disagreements with his party.

Securing coal and Steel jobs in Pennsylvania is going to be on the Trump agenda so maybe he can genuinely be worked with.

Might be better off with him than we would have been with Mehmet 'crudites' Oz.

602 Fetterman's downfall issue is, among others, illegal immigration.

The state is overrun, the wealthy have pushed them into towns and townships which cannot afford them for housing, food, education.

The concessions by state have been it's silly Boards of Health which have set-up separate, 'affordable' health programs at cost payer expense while other long established areas are becoming medical care/healthcare deserts, especially for older residents.

BTW, his wife (who I do happen to like) was once undocumented, as were her mom and brother.
