Chris Wallace Quits (or "Quits") CNN, Supposedly to Focus on His Podcast or Something

Some people in media are game-changers, who command their own audience. People will follow them if they leave a network. They're above the network.

Other people are just slot-fillers who people will watch because they're too lazy to change the channel but no one will follow them anywhere. They need the network, they need the brand, they need the fake prestige. They need the slot where they are guaranteed at least a minimum level of audience, such as in airport waiting lounges.

I wonder which of the two Chris Wallace is.

Chris Wallace out at CNN after 3 years at the network

CNN's weekend program 'The Chris Wallace Show' averaged below 600,000 total viewers during the election year

Oh. Looks like he's a slot-filler.

Veteran broadcaster Chris Wallace is leaving CNN after less than three years at the network.

"Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming," CNN CEO Mark Thompson said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he's brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for the future."

Wallace was offered a contract extension by CNN but chose to leave the network, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to Fox News Digital. His departure from CNN was first reported by The Daily Beast.

The 77-year-old told The Daily Beast he wants to go independent into streaming or podcasting.

So: Did he really quit, or was he fired?

He was fired, really:

According to a report from The Ankler last month, Wallace had been offered "a new deal for significantly less than the $8.5 million pact he inked under former CNN boss Jeff Zucker."

When you offer someone a "significant" pay cut, you're really firing them.

And yet they re-hired Tater. That must sting.

A 77-year-old is going to get into the podcast game? Is he going to do some collabs with the blowjob whore of Call Her Daddy?

A little update to the MSNBC story.

They're bragging about their election night ratings.

Obviously, everyone, including me, put on MSNBC to watch the meltdowns after Trump took a lead in Pennsylvania.

43 There is a guy on youtube called Chato who was a network exec on CBC, and a member of the Frantics (if you have ever heard the skit "boot to the head" it was those guys). He started out talking about network TV as the kings and I pointed out to him in comments that Joe Rogan's podcast gets better ratings and viewers than the highest rated TV show in the world. He was baffled and it took a while for him to grasp that network TV is basically dead technology.

These dinosaurs on TV are starting to figure that out, like Chris Wallace. You're not the top tier any more on a television show. You aren't the elite.

44 As it now stands, Smith can still point to Cannon’s decision as an outlier — as Democrat Judge Tanya Chutkan in D.C. has refused to dismiss the Jan. 6 prosecution on similar constitutional grounds. However, if the 11th Circuit affirms Cannon’s ruling, the fallout might reach far beyond Smith, casting doubt not only on his legitimacy but on Mueller’s as well.

90 Progressive Democrats are pushing to take over the party leadership as in-fighting breaks out following Kamala Harris’s election defeat. Left-wingers are hoping to install Ben Wikler, the Wisconsin Democratic chairman, to take over the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and swing it away from the current centrist leadership ahead of the 2026 midterms.

93 As it now stands, Smith can still point to Cannon’s decision as an outlier — as Democrat Judge Tanya Chutkan in D.C. has refused to dismiss the Jan. 6 prosecution on similar constitutional grounds. However, if the 11th Circuit affirms Cannon’s ruling, the fallout might reach far beyond Smith, casting doubt not only on his legitimacy but on Mueller’s as well.
Posted by: SMOD at November 12, 2024 01:39 PM (RHGPo)

Smith should be prosecuted for that. At the very least, he should have sought clarification from the circuit court on Cannon’s ruling. This wasn’t a case of two different prosecutors and two different plaintiffs resulting in conflicting interpretations of the law.

This was same prosecutor, same plaintiff, the worst kind of venue shopping.

Given that the average age of first time home buyers is close to the age of the oldest Millennials, they will have to say something like get off the walkway in front of my apartment door or something.

If Trump can stick the landing on the economy in the next four years, some of them will start reconsidering what they learned of politics from the GWB term in office, watching West Wing twaddle, and the Daily Show with Stewart.

Success in governance leads to success at the polls. Trump got the rare gift of a do over administration instead of the usual lame second term.

No he's changed his mind and realizes that podcasts and youtube videos are far more popular and effective. I love two features he has regularly:

1) he goes through the "coming shows" in old TV Guide issues examining an old season for what came out, what happened to the shows, and back stories.
2) he examines a new show (like Acolyte) for whether or not he'd green light it as an executive based on the pilot episode. He doesn't really do ordinary reviews, he does them from the perspective of a TV exec. Its great stuff

They all think they can pull off a Tucker or a Megyn switch to podcasts. How hard can it be?

Ace, if you ever do a podcast, Catturd has a co-host, Jewels, and I get the sense she does a lot of the heavy lifting to get it recorded and uploaded. Find the right co-host you feel natural and at ease with, like Chris Gore and Alan Ng, and the right producer to manage it (Piper? Nerdrotic lucked out getting Xray Girl for his producer), and that's half the battle right there.

Mentioned this and it got willowed, but I miss the Drift Compatible podcast. But I completely understand if their lives made it impossible to keep to a schedule, or it no longer became fun to do. But if they ever fire it back up, I'll be there.

Plus the "whoopsie" with the census of 2020 that "accidentally" gave CA 3 extra seats and NY 2 extra seats than they deserve.

Republicans will win the "House majority vote", or whatever you want to call the raw votes for the House, by about 3%.

My gosh! 35 people died, 43 people were injured!
CCP China's "revenge society" events are escalating.
On the evening of November 11th, a 62-year-old man named Fan drove an SUV into a crowd on the running track inside the Zhuhai Sports Center, resulting in at least 35 deaths and 43 injuries.
While Fan was unconscious due to self-inflicted injuries, the police claimed that the suspect's motive was dissatisfaction with the property division after his divorce.
The public questions the police's explanation, claiming he did this for other reasons.
It is noteworthy that this incident occurred on the eve of the China (Zhuhai) International Aviation Exhibition (from November 12-17).
I have long said that the grievances in Chinese society are too great, and one doesn't know when or in what form it will erupt, causing harm to innocent citizens.

I have no real issue with gerrymandering. It's the spoils of political war. If Massachusetts wants to make it so that not one Republican can win a House seat. Oh well. The MA GOP should probably try to win more elections.

However, it's the Census intentionally making mistakes that pisses me off. They admitted to it. They admitted that even with the counting of illegals they made a "mistake" and gave California 3 extra seats in Congress.

By 1942, as the situation for Jews in France deteriorated, Sister Denise Bergon began her clandestine operation to shelter Jewish children. Her convent, nestled in the French countryside, became a sanctuary not just for contemplation and prayer, but for saving the lives of 83 Jewish children over the course of the Second World War.

The convent's isolation helped in keeping their activities under wraps, but the danger was ever-present. There were close calls, times when German patrols came too close for comfort, or when suspicions were raised by local informants.

The children attended lessons, played, and participated in religious services, all while learning to conceal their true identities.

Through a combination of luck, divine providence as some might say, and Sister Bergon's meticulous planning, the children remained hidden.

There is no good solution to the gerrymandering problem because every solution just puts a mask on gerrymandering and calls it non-partisan.

The only actual solution is to make it as nakedly political as possible, a crowning victory for parties that control state governments that they can laud as spoils of war.

182 However, it's the Census intentionally making mistakes that pisses me off. They admitted to it. They admitted that even with the counting of illegals they made a "mistake" and gave California 3 extra seats in Congress.

I'd like to see Trump start to re-do the census with no illegals counted.

Fight this every step of the way and get real serious about manually counting the illegals while at the same time he is sending them home.

By handling issues one at a time the right often gives up the power combining them can have.

Maybe he'll lose somehow, but then he still comes up with a list of millions of illegals. Or maybe the blue states will hide the illegals and Trump can force through a real count of citizens.

The victims had been exercising at the time and the car was in an area off limits to vehicles, police said.

214 So I'm gonna rant a moment.

I had a doctor's appointment this morning at 9:30 so I thought ahead last night and scheduled a Lyft to pick me up at 9:00. Come 9:00 and the little Lyft app shows a car drawing near my house, and I figure, ok a little late, but I planned ahead.

The car drives past. And circles around going to other places. Still on the app, the little map shows the car driving all over town. But... the app doesn't show my actual RIDE being scheduled. Its like it knows I have a ride, but at the same time does not.

And I cannot find a single place on the app to register a complaint, because its not technically a ride, even though it shows I scheduled one last night. There's no ride to click on and interact with, like to cancel it or complain.

So I missed my doc appointment (kind of a relief, because it was a "run on this treadmill until your heart starts to beat funny or you die" test I was not looking forward to). And I do not even know if I can get my money back.

Gerrymandering comes with a risk. Making a maximalist setup "all dems" means every seat is in contention every term. So if people shift, you could lose many seats.

Trying to generate safe seats have similar problems - NC had a famous case where they decided to make Minority Majority districts to get safe seats for a few. A slight shift and suddenly GOP had most of the state's districts.

https://t.co/nomFQJGN4S

News of the death toll sent shockwaves through Chinese social media, although the topic only ranked 11th on Weibo, China’s X-like platform, which is subject to strict internet censorship.
“I’m utterly speechless aside from being shocked. I need a moment of silence to calm myself down,” one person wrote on Weibo.
China has seen a number of recent attacks against civilians, including children and foreigners.
In September, a bus crushed into a group of students and parents outside a school in the eastern province of Shandong, killing at least 11 people.
The same month, a 10-year-old Japanese boy was killed after he was stabbed on his way to a Japanese school in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
In October, on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, three people were killed and 15 others were injured in a knife attack at a supermarket in Shanghai.

266 House will be close to its current totals of GOP versus Dems within a seat or two.

When vacancies occur, like two GOP members resigning, the quorum goes down as well so the new majority requirement is 217 instead of 218.

The resignations usually do not take effect until after being sworn in for the new House in January and voting for Speaker plus nominations cannot officially occur until PDT is president (noon Jan 20th) even though hearings can be happen before that for some offices depending on the Senate choosing to do so. Stefanik do not have to officially resign until confirmed by the Senate prior to her swearing in.

Expect a fairly fast rampup this time as GOPe did not have access to the transition to sabotage it this time and Trump has a much larger MAGA cadre to draw from than 2016.

Who is actually going to be onsite to collect that info; who will they send that info to; how will the 'news' become disseminated across the landscape?
People with blogs don't have the resources to send out paid reporters all over the world. "So have local free-lancers do that job." So they become your reporters as soon as you pay them. So we are back to the old model of large news networks with the resources to do that 'real news' collating. Then they will also editorialize and distort.

322 People with blogs don't have the resources to send out paid reporters all over the world. "So have local free-lancers do that job." So they become your reporters as soon as you pay them. So we are back to the old model of large news networks with the resources to do that 'real news' collating. Then they will also editorialize and distort.
Posted by: Ciampino Network News at November 12, 2024 02:08 PM (i0xsb)

You don't have to pay your local stringers. Your viewers start watching their channel and if the stringer is good he gets his own independent audience. You can't shape his channel.

When the Ukraine war started there were many independent people who mapped the action on the ground and reported daily changes. One I watch a lot is in Singapore. He adds and subtracts sources as he judges their reliability. There are some more pro Russian, some more pro Ukranian.

Similar with alt news sources on the war. I found a few myself, was pointed to by others. One group who I found even before the war was the Duran, a pair of Greeks who know a lot about that part of the world politically and economically. Just heard that RFK jr has mentioned them as a good source.

326 There is no good solution to the gerrymandering problem because every solution just puts a mask on gerrymandering and calls it non-partisan.

The only actual solution is to make it as nakedly political as possible, a crowning victory for parties that control state governments that they can laud as spoils of war.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, finding suspense, madness, and humanity with Michael Powell at November 12, 2024 01:55 PM (GBKbO)

Simple solution for gerrymandering? If a given State has X number of legal citizens, and Y number of Representatives, simply divide the State into Y number of E-W strips, drawn on lines of latitude, each strip containing X/Y number of people. And those are your Congressional districts.

330 >>> Gerrymandering will always exist, we just need to take a hatchet to the most blatantly obvious ones. And yes, in places where we have total legislative control, we should mildly gerrymander, openly.

Utah GOP did just that. Carved up the districts into a pie shape, with SLC at the center of the pie. So the blue votes in SL county get chopped up and divvied in each of the districts, diluted by the rest of the bright red counties. And it forces all of the reps to have to schlep out to the boonies and deserts of Utah and at least pretend to give a darn what happens outside of SLC.

The dems gnashed their teeth, but it was kind of brilliant.

388 Gerrymandering will always exist, we just need to take a hatchet to the most blatantly obvious ones.

Posted by: LizLem at November 12, 2024 02:19 PM (Eng1Z)

I though you could have a game like system. Break up the state into small micro districts, determine a center for the major districts. Each side picks to add to a district. Cost varies to encourage a geographically sensible shape of the district. When all the microdistricts are used up, gerrymandering is done.
