Comcast to Sell Literally, Admittedly Failing Network MSNBC and Oprah's Grifter Network

A week ago, news came that Comcast was considering spinning off these valueless, money-losing properties.

Comcast said it was considering spinning off its cable networks that include CNBC and MSNBC into a separate company, as the media industry grapples with a decline in traditional TV viewership due to cord-cutting by consumers shifting to streaming.

The potential spin-off would exclude the NBC broadcast network and the Peacock streaming service. The company, however, is interested in seeking a partner for Peacock to help grow that business, Comcast president Mike Cavanagh said on Thursday.

So they want to partly sell off Peacock. They want someone to take a share of the losses.

"We chose not to participate in the M&A process around Paramount in the earlier part of this year. But we would consider partnerships in streaming," Cavanagh added.
Shares of Comcast were nearly 3% higher in early trading as the company also reported better-than-expected revenue for the third quarter on the back of box office hits and an Olympics-driven surge in ad sales.

Declining profitability in cable TV has been pushing media companies to explore options for their legacy businesses, even as they struggle to stem losses at their streaming services.

Now comes word that Comcast is officially putting these loser properties up for sale.

NEW: Comcast reportedly set to sell left-wing network MSNBC

I'm not sure if he's just repeating the already-reported news of a potential sale, or if he's saying he has word that MSNBC will be sold.

MSNBC's ratings have crashed since the election they claimed was in the bag for Kamala Harris. Their audience can't be happy they were lied to throughout the campaign.

Benny Johnson
@bennyjohnson

Proof the atomization of Corporate Media is upon us

MSNBC ratings have precipitously cratered since Trump's sweeping victory on Election Day:

Morning Joe -- down 39.6%
Joy Reid's Reidout -- down 54.6%
Andrea Mitchell -- down 39.7%
Ari Melber -- down 49.6%
All-in w Chris Hayes -- down 47.2%
Alex Wagner Tonight- down 53.6%
Lawrence O'Donnell -- down 60.6%
Stephanie Ruhle -- down 67%

On Election Night, 25% of cable networks' usual viewers chose not to watch-- instead tuning into independent creators' record-breaking streams like ours.

Trump isn't even in office yet is already defeating the fake news.

The Golden Age of media.

I can't think of any other potential buyers other than George Soros or, say, a joint partnership between Soros and a cadre of other communist billionaires. The networks do not make money, they just make leftwing narratives. They have no economic value.

Oh -- Time magazine is on the chopping block, too.

I agree. Amazon supposedly killed real-life books, but it turned out that people like to hang out in bookstores. Barnes & Noble was a beneficiary of that - they were supposed to be DOA, and they're not.

I've never wanted a conservative media outlet. I'd simply like one that has, as their operating statement, "I don't trust anybody." If an outlet did that, I'd watch all day long - I might even buy a TV to do it.

If Elon wants to make X.com the everything portal to the internet, he might do worse than to pick up MSNBC for pennies on the dollar.

It was easy to see those kind of trolls even back in Usenet days and in techworld, you still see people frozen in the AMD/Intel world as fanbois spreading fud while RISC design chips like from ARM are threatening to replace both.

94 Yesterday I watched a clip at The Federalist in which Mollie made the case that the "right wing media empire" is bullshit. So far, so good. But commie Marie Barf claimed that X is also suppressing leftwing comments. At least in the clip included, Mollie didn't push back. Someone needs to.

In general, we need a lot more pushing back on their lies. Vance does some. We need to point out that "their truth" is just what some pol or bureaucrat or fellow journoliar says to support them. That's, at best, minimal evidence.

I wish someone would flat out tell them to their faces that the "proof" that 2020 was not stolen is all BS. None of the cases was actually given a thorough hearing. I understand that during the campaign that would be a needless diversion. But the campaign is over. Now, aside from the war in DC, the destruction of the establishment media is just as important.

112 TV advertising is a house of cards. The conventional wisdom, peddled by campaign strategists, of needing to spend millions on it to win elections just got blown out of the water by Trump. He went on the podcasts his son recommended and did targeted online advertising. (Harris blanketed YouTube as well, to the point of annoyance.) As far as I know, Trump never bought an ad to run during the national evening news. Stick a fork in it, TV advertising is done.

Letting guests, and anchors zoom their content into the studio because of COVID was the death blow to high cost studio production.

The audience is more interested in the content now than the production values.

Shoot, I grew up on network entertainment and gave it up several years ago.

Heck, my wife and I recently caught a movie on a cable channel and the number of commercials made the show pretty much unwatchable.

Studio equipment for a decent streaming channel is relatively cheap. Billion dollar studios are losing out to 20K worth of equipment in a garage.

People have choices, these days, unlike the era I grew up in.,

If you have a Microcenter near you or if you are careful about sellers, Amazon, you can normally pickup up a refurbished model of the same computer you have (or even a upgraded version of it) for not a lot of money if is a couple of years old.

That can serve as a bridge to later buying a new one as there are some really interesting designs out there like Lunar Lake that have all day batteries more or less. For power users, the newer AMD Ryzen gamer rigs look quite nice.

I would however, do a full backup to something whether thumbdrive, cloud, or portable ssd/harddrive.

FX's "Alien: Earth" TVseries has a lame trailer out.

Apparently, it involves a plain Jane Girlboss and some Alien fodder soldiers hunting an Alien in the forest.

The problem here is the same problem with the direction Jurassic Park movies have taken. Dinos or aliens in the wild on Earth are easy kills with automatic weapons and bazookas.

Anyone ever thought that the Alien is a great weapon in a space ship, ie. acid blood melting open an access to the vacuum of space, etc. But, on land, well it's not much more dangerous than a tiger.

I predict....failure.

Posted by: It is Go Time Donald at November 12, 2024 12:48 PM (o8qE9)

He’s a handsome, vapid actor paid to read lines.

The MSM’s primary task is to lend credibility to the status quo by “pinning” alternative media and thereby defining the scope of the Overton window. You can see that all the time, even on this site. When’s the last time you sat and watched CNN?

Probably not for a long time. Yet I see clips from CNN and MSNBC nearly everyday on right-wing media sites, X, etc. Those sites or X users are using the clips to demonstrate bias and stupidity in the mainstream media, but it also has the effect of shaping narratives in the alternative media. Thesis/antithesis.

I’d still contend that most of CNN’s views and influence come from people hate-watching clips of its buffoonish hosts and deranged guests.

I refrain much from commenting but basically laptops are disposable computers. Want one that lasts, build your own desktop which is easier than ever now.

Even watercooling nowadays and nominal overclocking is tame enough for normies to do.

Re built desktops,
I have had ONE motherboard fail in about twenty years of building a new one about every two to three years. One CPU failed but the motherboard was okay.

I haven't had a power supply fail since I had the OEM power supply die on an HP desktop tower way back in 1998. Had exactly one refurb (via Microcenter) DVD-RW drive fail.

No hard drive failures.

If one wants to do it, building your own is easier than ever and you control what goes in it and spending a few more bucks for a good power supply, name brand and warrantied memory, mid grade motherboards, and decent name brand components such as ssd/harddrives/blurays, etc.
give you a computer than can easily last a decade of use.

287 "Jodenjacht" -- Dutch for "Jew Hunt" -- is now THE trendy buzzword of the year among Europe's Muslim population, as "Jew Hunts" (i.e. attempted pogroms) break out all over Europe in the wake of the Amsterdam jodenjacht a few days ago:

https://www.thetimes.com/world/europe/article/ police-jew-hunt-belgium-copycat-attacks-cfhvnktzb

Police foil ‘Jew hunt’ in Belgium amid fears of copycat attacks

"Suspects were planning a copycat “Jew hunt” in Antwerp after last week’s attacks on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam, police said.

There were calls on social media for a “jodenjacht”, or “Jew hunt”, using the same language as the attackers who co-ordinated violence in the Dutch capital using messaging apps.

Fears of copycat attacks are growing as the term “jodenjacht” becomes established on social media apps such as Telegram or Snapchat as street slang used by young people mainly of Arab origin.

...In Berlin, a Jewish football team was put under police protection after a group armed with sticks and knives chased team members, shouting “free Palestine” and “f***ing Jews”."

293 AP - Chris Wallace is leaving CNN. He says he wants to see what the new media environment has to offer

Chris Wallace says he’s leaving CNN after three years and, at age 77, is eager to see what a transformed media environment has to offer.
“When I look at the media landscape right now, the people who are going independent, whether it’s podcasting or streaming, that seems to be where the action is,” he said Tuesday.
Wallace said having control over what he does is more appealing to him at this stage of his career. Don’t expect big changes in his brand — he’ll likely stick with interviews and political analysis, and not favor one political side over another — and he said he’s already heard some expressions of interest.
Retirement’s not in the blood. His father worked well into his late 80s at “60 Minutes.” Besides, Chris Wallace said, “nobody in my family wants me to retire.”

CNN 'will ax top stars in layoffs that'll see hundreds fired' https://mol.im/a/14073063

The rumblings, first reported by Puck News, come as high-paid personalities like Jake Tapper and Wolf Blitzer were reportedly recently denied raises.
The two already boast salaries of $7million and $3million, while stars like Anderson Cooper take home an annual $20million.
Kaitlan Collins and Erin Burnett also command huge earnings - $3million and $6million respectively.
Insiders told Puck the new round of firings will likely see on-air talent like them affected, as the network's new CEO looks to free up finances amid waning ratings.
In the next few months, I’m told, CNN will implement another round of layoffs that will impact hundreds of employees across the organization,' reporter Dylan Byers wrote Friday, referencing CNN's recent 100-person layoff seen over the summer.

It all comes down to "how strong is our First Amendment". If you want an idea of the strategy of those looking to totally control information, just look to the Common Law ruled UK. They set up special police brigades to arrest those saying things on Social Media with which they disagree. Teenagers are being arrested for posting song lyrics to honor dead friends.

So, if you think the Legacy Media will be gone in 12 years, there's the little detail of a government willing to revive and prop them up while stemming the influence of any alternatives by abusing the law. These people are persistent and never stop regardless of the law, optics or common sense.

Fantasy: I win the lottery, buy MSNBC, and tell the hosts and producers they can keep their jobs and go on with their shows IF ------

they subject themselves to a public, on-air Truth and Reconciliation process in which they review all the lies they've told over the last, say, 5 years (more for more egregious lies) and account for these failures of journalism. Bias, ignorance, sloppiness, whatever -- they've got to come clean and correct the record.

And then the can keep their jobs at their current rates of pay for a year. After that, we renegotiate based on ratings.

Like ATT, Comcast cable is tethered to physical lines that cost more than cellular wifi to maintain.

But compression tweaks let them wring more and more information from that wire to where bandwidth costs to Comcast or ATT are really low.

Comcast still offers some tv content simply to get more people in the door now to sell wired internet services or its wireless phones via bundling.

I think ATT has now jettisoned all content business and is just a carrier now.

Now, I just use one of my distro files in the rare event I can't boot something usually due to dual booting and Microsoft screwing up it stupid security certificates expiration dates.

545 Comcast is getting its ass kicked by companies like Quantum right now. They charge too much and provide not great service.

I noticed Comcast abruptly announced after the election that they're teaming up with Starlink. Presumably to get on Elon (and thus Trump)'s good side, because I didn't really understand the benefit otherwise.

DVD-RWs. Can't read hardly any of them anymore. Lost some archives. It sucks.

.. I looked into what the Library of Congress uses and it was interesting. They claimed CD/DVDs were only safe to retain data for 1 year. I don't remember them talking about floppies.
They apparently use Linear Tape-Open (LTO).

553 Wings is a great movie. There were some truly magnificent silents, not just comedies like The General but nobody has yet made a horror movie as frightening and moody as Nosferatu. They were really getting great at the medium when sound was introduced. I still love Singing in the Rain's portrayal of experiments with sound in movies and their miserable trials.

With today's AI extensions, Ace could generate a computer voice to do his talking for him along with an Avatar.

Even consumer grade video editors now have closed captioning, auto text reading and substituting talking avatars for people images.

I've played around with the avatar gimmicks when I had to do a bunch of conferencing and teaching online a couple of years ago and it has only gotten slicker and easier to use in the interim.

Let's stay with News.
This is stuff like Etna is erupting again; some nasty terrorist action in Kenya; Jim Smith's progress on his round the world in a canoe; new shrew species found in Borneo; etc.
Who is actually going to be onsite to collect that info; who will they send that info to; how will the 'news' become disseminated across the landscape?
People with blogs don't have the resources to send out paid reporters all over the world. So have local free-lancers do that job. So they become your reporters as soon as you pay them. So we are back to the old model of large news networks with the resources to do that 'real news' collating. Then they will also editorialize and distort.
