I had a forlorn hope that this electoral blowout might encourage the NPCs to quiet down. The Party apparatus certainly has - no rioters have been deployed, as the usual best demonstrated practices call for.
But after the guy murdered his whole family yesterday, and all these people are making death threats all over social media, I think I see where this is headed. These people are conditioned to hate, and to chimp out on command. They're all watching the sky for the Batshit Signal, and it isn't coming, so that free-floating aggression is just oozing out through the seams. Sad to say, it might be better if the Party set up a good old-fashioned fiery outburst of violent bigotry in the cities for their monster babies to get it out of their system. Now it's just going to come out on randos in Normieville, USA. Keep y'all's heads on a swivel. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at November 12, 2024 07:37 AM (7oYYI) 39

Donald Trump won more votes than he had before almost everywhere in the United States. Voters shifted right in rural areas, in suburbs and even in New York City. But it’s the urban areas that should unnerve Democrats most. These places are led by liberal mayors and city councils. They are diverse, and they are economically powerful.
Take a look at America’s 50 biggest local economies (as measured by GDP in 2022). In 2020, Trump won only one of them. In 2024, he took nine and made significant gains in nearly all of them. Posted by: rhennigantx at November 12, 2024 07:56 AM (gbOdA) 109

JROD,
Two types of laptops, those that are dead and those that will die. They are designed from the start to be disposable and are more difficult to fix, upgrade, or troubleshoot and use proprietary parts and drivers driving up the costs to maintain. So, if you choose laptops, it requires discipline to regularly do full backups either via the cloud or at home. So for me, a tablet or something like a Google notebook is fine for portable usage. Some people having to travel here and there have to rely on laptops with their job and life on it. I pity them. Posted by: whig's phone at November 12, 2024 08:05 AM (ctrM5) 151

Depressing in hindsight, but it does suggest a firebrand candidate could ply these people away from Donnie. Kamala had elements of this with the big optimism, and I think that resonated and helped pull in big crowds already. But they saw her as "establishment" while aoc is seen more as someone who challenges the establishment. It's all these rightwing foreign influences spewing propaganda 24/7 onto our voting populace with very little push back. Because if it was reality getting through to them, there is no way a fat, demented, malicious narcissist turn Nazi could be equated with AOC. Fetterman & AOC in 28? Or Buttigieg & Crockett? South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was asked to lead the Department of Homeland Security
Posted by: SMOD at November 12, 2024 08:23 AM (RHGPo) 235
For the most part, other than a few key departments, the face of the dept as secretary of this or that name at the top does not actually administer that department. Instead, you have nameless under and asst secretaries and directors of agencies, etc
For example, secret service and the border patrol are both under Homeland Security dept but function as largely independent agencies with their own director. The FBI is supposedly under the DOJ but in fact pretty independent of it. The major roles for secretaries is the administrative law part for rulemaking and to serve as the public face if the agency for budget and outreach to clients of that agency. Not for running day to day ops. Trump, like a lot of other presidents, has found that the names at the top don't matter as much as the underlings that are loyal to the president so that the president can run the show out of the White House. At the extreme, some presidents find it most useful to run foreign policy out of the White House instead of fooling with using Secretaries of Departments. An election conspiracy theory is spreading on social media alleging that billionaire Elon Musk hacked the 2024 election in favor of President-elect Donald Trump using his Starlink satellite internet company. Left-wing conspiracy theorists allege that Starlink, a satellite constellation developed by Musk's SpaceX designed to provide high-speed broadband internet across the globe, was connected to the voting machine supply chain.

Yeah, but it's too narrow.
The GOP should have something like 235 reps at a minimum. Unfortunately, the donks have perfected cheating and gerrymandering, so this pretty much the best we can hope for. Posted by: Thomas Bender ======= Blame recent Scotus decisions for the lost of three GOP seats for their statutory interpretation on racial gerrymandering. Courts simply have little to no reason to be involved in drawing district lines and their asinine insistence to retain some of the Warren Court's decisions like Baker v. Carr has led the Court into mucking about with what should be state legislative decisions. The whole majority-minority district nonsense was initially made up by the Court and then buttressed by changes to the VRA during GHWB administration that essentially racially balkanize the US into fiefdoms. Americans had the opportunity to elect Kamala Harris. And we had failed to live up to her. As Michelle Obama told us, we were not good enough for her. Perhaps one day we will be. And Harris, along with Hillary Clinton, can wait in the wings, sipping chardonnay and listening to selections from Oprah Winfrey's book club until we show that we are ready for them to finally come and save us from ourselves. Decades may pass. Even centuries. But surely one day Americans will finally be ready for a completely inept buffoon of a president.

Posted by: Marcus T ===== Some people just like to argue. Twas always thus in any comment section or even back in Usenet. There is a book that describes DC bureaucracy and it is A Government of Strangers by Hugh Heclo. Essentially, a new president (not Trump in this case) is always hindered by having to pick a group of relative strangers to political positions inside agencies. Those political picks are then in the situation of being in the middle between the existing civil service and the president's advisors. The civil service, which is hostile to change and political influence at the best of times, tries to sandbag any new appointee relying on superior knowledge of how the agency works. At the same time, presidents, to be successful have to have their eyes and ears of loyal presidential aides installed into agencies so as to coordinate real policy in the White House. Trump is better positioned with his do over presidency than most new ones. Posted by: whig at November 12, 2024 08:59 AM (ctrM5) 434

That DU intercept is a window into how much trouble the Dems are in 2028. They’ve got no widely acknowledged leadership figures lot call on, they’ve all aged out or been discredited.
I actually disagree to a point. I think Whitmer is a dangerous opponent, presenting herself as a battleground states moderate who has been a victim of right-wing extremism. I'm not sure how the far Left would react to Fetterman, but the last few times I've seen him speaking, he's improved greatly, and successfully portrays himself as a normal guy/outsider. Still a lot of issues before he could mount a presidential run, but he's more relatable and dangerous than most Dems. Or...they could run Bernie again lol. Can he put it on hold until Trump leaves office? If so, that's my guess about what he'll do.
Posted by: Ordinary American == The whole case relied on its wacko interpretation of a predicate federal law to claim a wacko interpretation of violating states laws. Then on top of those problems, there was a Scotus ruling that has every lawfare action against Scotus required to determine where PDT had immunity and where he did not by specific hearings that are reviewable by appellate courts (federal and state). Under that ruling, Bragg introduced illegal evidence at the trial that involved matters that Scotus has declared as sovereign immunity matters and Merchan never had any hearing regarding those claims before the case went to the jury. So, even under that, the convictions are likely to be overturned in appellate courts for a retrial on that issue by itself. The whole construct was to get Trump branded as a convict over ridiculous interpretations of law (just as the Enron, Bob McDonnell, and Conrad Black, convictions were gathered by that same putrid group of former DOJ prosecutors under the Lawfare Section of Brookings Institute. BTW, Brookings has Qatar as a big donor. Posted by: whig at November 12, 2024 09:08 AM (ctrM5) 491

Posted by: Lizzy ------- Easier to put him on the President's Intelligence Advisory Board. Those folks get the clearance needed to see what the intel agencies are doing and the info they have collected. They then can advise the President. Most presidents learn that following the public organization charts will lead to disaster and thus they have to rely more on those folks that do not need confirmation such as WH advisory positions or that are in relative obscurity as asst. and under secretary positions in agencies. The advisory types can reach outside the WH into agencies with the proper lower level political hires for information and essentially bypass figurehead Secretaries in most departments. Heads of agencies are more important in those huge departments like Homeland Security which has the Secret Service, ATF, Border Patrol, Customs and Immigration (ICE), etc. These essentially are controlled by the President as Secretaries do not have hire and fire authority for underlings. The President does. Posted by: whig at November 12, 2024 09:20 AM (ctrM5) 553

And he reasoned that this fact would render Biden an especially loyal second-in-command: Bereft of political aspirations of his own, Biden would have no compunction about putting Obama's interests and goals above all else." Mint, The $91-million question: What happens to Biden’s campaign money? Reuters, July 19, 2024 CNN, 'Clinton privately urge donors to keep giving to Biden as long as he remains presumptive nominee,' July 20, 2024. Vox, 'Biden is out of the 2024 race. What happens to his campaign donations?' Kamala Harris is the only Democrat who could seamlessly access Biden's hundreds of millions in campaign cash. July 21, 2024 Harvard Law Today, 'Can Kamala Harris access Biden campaign funds?' Harvard Law elections expert Nicholas Stephanopoulos says that, if chosen by Democratic delegates, ‘Harris has the keys to the [Biden reelection] account’ By Scott Young, Jul 24, 2024 I can't help but wonder, given the obvious democratic party split, did the ole War Room crew from the 1990's actually control the final outcome more than we may imagine or credit them for?
