8 Yes, that Blackberry. Yes, they're still around.

I knew them as Research in Motion or RIM, and the Blackberry was the product, but I guess it became kind of a one-hit-wonder for them, so it makes sense they rebranded the company to the product name.

9 There's an amazing amount of stuff orbiting Earth now. Creepy, if I think about it too much.

Funny about the Brit satellite, though. LOL.

10 VMWare Workstation and VMWare Fusion (for Mac) are now free for everyone, including commercial use.

Which might mean the company has abandoned them. Or might not.

Which means Broadcom realizes they may have been far too greedy in going after only the whales in the massive price hikes for licenses after buying VMWare, and now they're going to try to get the masses to start using desktop product, and then they'll probably pull an Ellison and announce that you've got to start paying large for that.

No thanks Lucy, you can have that football.

11 Skynet 1A: "Because it's dead, the risk is it might bump into something, and because it's 'our' satellite we're still responsible for it," he explains."

Contract SpaceX to bring it back intact. It'd be an interesting challenge, and Musk loves challenges. Then put the satellite in a museum for all to see.

12 Evening and morning to all you early risers and late toilers.

What's this about Rubio as Sec'y of State? Is that set, just a rumor, or a possibility DJT has floated? Somehow Rubio does not impress me, and he may not impress foreign leaders. He *looks* too young, for one thing -- not much more than a boy, to somebody like Putin. That might lead them to underestimate him . . . but, I dunno.

13 "A Skynet team from Oakhanger would go to the USAF satellite facility in Sunnyvale (colloquially known as the Blue Cube) and operate Skynet during 'Oakout'. This was when control was temporarily transferred to the US while Oakhanger was down for essential maintenance. Perhaps the move could have happened then?” Ms Hill speculated.

The official, though incomplete, logs of Skynet-1A’s status suggest final commanding was left in the hands of the Americans when Oakhanger lost sight of the satellite in June 1977.

14 And as for *the* BlackBerry, the device, I always thought it was cool looking. I like buttons, real ones. My Buick has lots of touch screen "buttons," but I often use the actual ones set below the screen to call up a radio station or to switch to my music-loaded flash drive.

17 It's not clear yet who Trump might pick to head the SEC, but it's hard to imagine anyone more criminally antagonistic...

I noticed the other day that support for Bitcoin was in the RNC 2024 platform:

Crypto
Republicans will end Democrats’ unlawful and unAmerican Crypto
crackdown and oppose the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency. We will defend the right to mine Bitcoin, and ensure every American has the right to self-custody of their Digital Assets, and transact free from Government Surveillance and Control.

When we get the deck rebuilt, I want a roof added over it. It faces South, so summer sun just *cooks* it -- except when I put the canvas cover over a metal gazebo fixture -- and there's no place to escape rain & snow once the canvas is put away.

59 I don’t understand crypto and I probably am able too old to understand it. The sad part is not really that old. I hope people do learn that it is best to invest in something you really believe in and just hold. I know people that invested in bitcoin and they lost pretty much everything. You might ask, how is that possible. People are funny, but this has been consistent. They buy high and they sell low. That has always been the case, whether it be gold, bitcoin or the S&P. It saddens me that I know so many people who have lost always sell at the worst time

72 Hmmm...

Sources in the Trump campaign tell me that Obama donor Lake, who campaigned for Barack, and in 2017 tweeted “Not My President,” referring to Trump, days before his inauguration, rebuffed an offer from the Trump campaign to be national spokesperson, instead of running for senate. The offer is understood to have come from President Trump, who knew she could not win Arizona and worried about her dragging down his performance in the state. Which she did: Trump would have won Arizona by a larger margin without her. If the race had been closer, she might have cost him the state.

Trump won by roughly 200,000, and Lake lost by roughly 70,000, which suggests that a second group of Republican voters opted for him, but left the box next to her name blank. This latter group couldn’t stomach voting for a Democrat but refused to support her either. Barely 60 people attended her election night watch party, which Lake didn’t even show up to.
Lake will no doubt spend another four fruitless years blasting through millions of dollars alleging that there was cheating. But if there was cheating in Arizona this year, why does it show up only in the senate race, whose majority was a done deal, and not in the razor-thin House races, where it might have mattered? Occam’s Razor points us to the answer: People just don’t like her.

102 Today spouse and I were reading Psalm 90 and what particularly struck me was vs. 12-"Teach us to number our days." This is reflection from a pastor who writes on the Bible, Dr. David Jeremiah:

John Eldridge I. " The Journey of Desire" writes, "We are at war, and the bloody battle is over our hearts. I am astounded how few Christians see this. We act as though we live in a sleepy little town during peacetime. We don't. We live in the spiritual equivalent of a [war torn country] Act like it . Watch over your heart . Don't let just anything in ; don't let it go anywhere . What's this doing to my heart? Is a question that I ask in ever situation?"

What would happen if we prayed every day , "O Lord Cod, help me to measure my days and ask of everything I confront : What will this do to my heart

Of course, assuming you ever actually grow up - I assume that happens occasionally - remembrances can be a bit awkward.

142 The brave "resistance fighters" of the left. They see themselves as a reincarnation of the valiant French resistance of WW2. Well, in some ways, yeah. The French resistance was fractured into many groups such as socialists, communists, nationalists, there was probably a royalist faction wanting the return of the Bourbons. Lots of infighting, some bloody. Also, they didn't get much done until the invasion because the Krauts would just string up ten Frenchmen for one German death.
