The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Was the entire state of California dropped on its collective head in the late 1990s? They went from George Deukmejian and Pete Wilson (two solid governors) to Gray Davis! And then it got worse!

Is there a more dysfunctional state and a more dysfunctional voting base than California? Yes...yes, Illinois and New Jersey are in the discussion, but for pure, unadulterated stupidity, and voting against self-interest, it is hard to beat California. Add in the unbelievably corrupt and monstrous state government, and California should retire the trophy for most f*cked up state.

But give the good voters of California their due. They do not rest on their laurels. They are charging into the fray, confident that they will not only retain their title, but cement it in history!

Poll Shows Kamala Harris as Frontrunner for California Governorship

Harris’s commanding lead in a hypothetical 2026 California gubernatorial race is likely partly due to her near-universal name recognition and elevated voter interest following the 2024 presidential race. “Nearly all voters in this state have an opinion of her, and that’s really the big advantage that she brings to an early poll,” said Mark DiCamillo, director of UC Berkeley’s IGS Poll. “None of the other candidates are as well known to the voting public.”

Is it possible that the absolutely spectacular failure of a presidential campaign that was fabulously wealthy, supported by the entire media and most of corporate America went unnoticed by California's voters? Was the surf particularly good this summer and fall? Maybe the Humboldt Gold crop was just fantastic?

Or...fuel and power is so expensive that the Golden State (hah!) saved money by not watching TV? It is difficult to understand that Chlamydia Harris is seen even by the amiable retards of California as a viable candidate for anything, much less governor. And of course the reality is that there are no other candidates because California's current idiot, Gavin Newsome, is term limited, and no lunatics have thrown their propeller beanies into the ring. So Harris is it...for now.

Obviously it is early, and it would be truly shocking if her abject failure as a vice president and then presidential candidate went unnoticed, even by California's LIVs. But there is a sort of delicious symmetry if she went from one failure to another. I guess it is possible that she could attract enough money to conduct a viable campaign. After all, there are plenty of stupid billionaires. But who would work on that campaign? Supposedly she stiffed her presidential campaign workers of their last paychecks, and the rumor mill is filled with stories of exactly how poorly planned and out of touch she and her campaign were.

My guess is that she will ride off into the sunset with some board memberships, maybe a no-show job at a major university, and after a cooling off period (it's called detox by most of us) onto the lecture circuit for some easy cash.

Come on California! Show us what you are made of...HARRIS 2026!

8 I think there's a very good shot that Kamala running for CA governor will end her entire political career.

She'll end up placing 4th in the jungle primary behind a Republican in third, or something.

It'll be hilarious.

But, she's hungry and got so close. She won't give up, but the Democrat electorate may be done with her.

Let it be done. For the lulz.

63 Thing is, if you talk to people who live in CA, they don't know just how much government is screwing them.

For instance, Californians believe electrical prices are sky high due to evil corporations. They've no idea CA imports something like 20% of the power they use. CA voters also don't know Diablo Canyon was slated to be shut down, which would have removed something like 10% of CA's electricity. I believe the FedGov had to step in and tell Newsom "no."

But, the brownouts and blackouts are due to corporate greed.

92 That Cali poll is bullsh!t, the voting numbers are extra fake news, and Cali is nowhere as blue as is purported. It has blue long enough and key precincts have been under demofraud control so long that the steal machine is absolutely entrenched.

It will take national legislation to remedy the situation.

There's probably only a handful of states that really are blue.

Cook County official arrested, charged with driving while drunk in Chicago
Democratic Board of Review Commissioner Samantha Steele was arrested Sunday after she caused a crash in the 5000 block of North Ashland Avenue, police records show. Officers found an open bottle of wine in her car, and she refused a field sobriety check.
-------
Police and political records show Steele lives in Evanston. She represents the Board of Review’s District 2, which includes much of the North Side of Chicago and the northern suburbs.

Steele was first elected to the Board of Review — which has power to decide on property tax appeals — in 2022, defeating incumbent Michael Cabonargi in the Democratic primary after she had worked on Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi’s transition team.

140 California may have been dropped on its head but the biggest political deadweights I’ve seen are the

1) massive influx of legal and illegal immigrants that have been added to their voting pool and census counts . The pre-1990 citizenry are in a permanent minority.

2) the seizure of all statewide political offices by the Rats, most decisively the governor, attorney general and Secretary of State. This puts all vote counts in Rat hands. And they will guarantee Rat victories no matter what. California could have been electing Republicans the last 20 years for all I know. The only reason we believe that they didn’t is because some Rat said so.

158 What's really sad is CA could easily be a paradise. Drill for oil, nuclear power for desalination so there's plenty of water, plenty of minerals readily available for mining, farming.

CA should be fabulously wealthy beyond any state in the union.

Instead, it has to use accounting tricks to appear solvent.

I dragged my ass to vote in NY knowing I was jerking myself off but without the usual payoff.

But things change. FL and OH were once swing states. PA was once part of the infamous Blue Wall. I think NJ can be flipped, but it will take a lot of time, effort, and money. NY is probably out of reach.

In truth, "Governor of California" is a job that nobody actually wants. Every single governor we've ever had is immediately hated and rejected, even by the people who voted for him.

The ONLY REASON anyone ever tries to become governor here is as a STEPPING STONE to the Presidency. The act of being governor is a boring distasteful waiting period before your presidential campaign is launched.

The problemztic part is that while you're "waiting" (i.e. while you're governor) your popularity inevitably plummets, as everyone begins to realize what an asshole you are.

If Kamala does indeed become CA governor, it's ony because she needs a chair to siit in while she strategizes comeback for the 2028 or 2032 presidential election.

Their last remaining oil refineries will be shut down soon, and that means 40 million people are going rely on gasoline supplies that come from refineries in Indonesia (they blocked the pipeline capacity that would have allowed supply from the Gulf Coast. Oh well the electric sockets in the wall will always have power, won’t they?

Freedom of the press does not include the privilege of having a seat in the briefing room. You can still speak and print all the lies you want, short of slander.

But a seat in the room? No.

🇺🇸 CALIFORNIA TEACHER CALLS MAGA SHIRT A "HATE CRIME"

A Cerritos High School teacher stormed out of class after seeing a student wear a MAGA shirt, later sending an email blasting the attire as "intimidating" and a symbol of "hate."

In the message, she criticized the school's policy allowing political clothes for students but not teachers, calling Trump a "fascist."

The teacher, identifying as a Latina mother of an LGBTQ+ child, said the shirt represents "deep hatred" toward minorities, women, and LGBTQ+ communities.

The school district is investigating the incident, and the teacher is reportedly taking mental health leave.

I think two reasons: (1) NJ is entering swing-state territory and as I mentioned above there are a lot of right-leaning voters who don't bother to show up.

(2) If the GOP can flip NJ then it's total GAME OVER for Dums on the national level. High risk, high reward. I think that's why NJ is being targeted instead of, say, MI or WI. Although I don't see why those two states can't be fumigated at the same time. Trump won both. They are winnable.

"Legal scholars have pointed to the possibility that federal agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had been captured by media conglomerates. Peter Schuck of Yale Law School has argued that the FCC is subject to capture by the media industries' leaders and therefore reinforce the operation of corporate cartels in a form of "corporate socialism" that serves to "regressively tax consumers, impoverish small firms, inhibit new entry, stifle innovation, and diminish consumer choice"."

Terms like yellow dog and blue dog, you don't hear them anymore; I doubt anyone younger than me would recognize them. The same kind of dynamic appears to be happening among Hispanics (for lack of a better term) now.

Oh, I see, so you agree with my point that removing/cutting back regulations that are empowering some agency that in turn is powering a monopoly is a good thing, but you want to expand on it. To point out that not everyone will be happy. But majority businesses will. And I took is as if you are trying to score some argumentation point. My bad.

People in CA do not make a connection between their leaders and the chaos on the ground. Thus, L.A. folks voted out their Soros DA but enacted a new sales tax to fund homeless relief. After the last $25 billion did nothing except to double the size of the homeless population! Eva Longoria moved to Spain because of the taxes and crime but only after a Repub was elected president!

Yeah.

Smaller players like cutting regulation.

Larger players write the regulation trying to keep the smaller players small or even to kill them.

Big Business is nothing I have anything against, until they start writing their own rules to keep out competition. Which they've been doing for decades through regulatory capture.

No. They all have to be designed for off road competitions, family road-trips, and looking good driving around town. Simultaneously. You have to go back to the 90's to find what you want.

Posted by: G'rump928(c) at November 14, 2024 12:18 PM (aD39U)

An actress (Greer Garson?) got training in beauty care for a lot of the women when they were in refugee camps. They parlayed those skills into nearly complete control of the nail salon industry after coming to the US.

Just think of any sort of licensing for a micro example.

You need a license to...open a business. So, you have to pay fees to the government. This increases the cost of opening a business.

Who can handle that burden easier? Someone already with money or someone without?

Now, apply that principle to a regulatory agency writing rules by people who will be working for Exxon in a year.

462 US corporations are weeping because ...

I would say that the famous "lead in chinese toys" would fit into this model. Some toys were found to have lead parts, so the govt mandated extensive testing for all toys, not just from China, but from every home crafter and small company in the country. They would have to hire someone to do the testing.

Later, the govt exempted Mattel because they could do their own testing, thereby protecting their position in the market. Sounds to bad to be true but that was the story back then.

464 Arguing against Trump's Sec Def pick on the basis of his rank or work after service is a false platform to stand on, imo.

He served his country and has worked as in media since leaving the armed forces. That's not an uncommon career path at all.

The fact that he was "only" a major is irrelevant. He is a civilian now. The military answers to the civilian government. So, spare me the "Generals won't like taking orders from a Major" nonsense. They won't be. They'll be taking orders from the civilian Secretary of Defense.

We had an electric kettle everywhere I lived, Italy, East Africa, South Africa, except USA. Apparently we are not savvy enough to make immersion heaters that can be in actual contact with the water that needs heating. Everyone else manages okay. Now I do mention one caveat: at least since the 1960s most countries dropped the old wire fuses and went with the circuit breakers plus added what there is called 'earth leakage' and superseded by GFCI. We need to make every socket protected by GFCI.

473 Since you both have direct experience there -- do you actually believe the voters are actually perpetuating this stupidity? Or is it the result of decades-long election fraud? I'm leaning toward the latter (as I fully believe is the case here in Maryland).
Posted by: Doof at November 14, 2024 11:08 AM (N0dT2)

Yes there is a lot of election fraud here like any blue state, and there is a lack of any second party since the GOP allowed the jungle primary and castrated itself. The recall was launched by SoCal leftists and the NorCal leftists and fraud were able to beat it. Hollywood and normal leftist conformity pretty much tamp down any dissent.

Not much a voter can do when Dem A vs Dem B is the choice you have.
