13 This is odd. Why isn't she in the kitchen? There's no table to put anything on. And the window is too high up for her to even enjoy looking out into the garden. It's such a manufactured setting, it's creepy.

Wonder if she poisoned the apples and the little kid is going on the rotisserie over the fire.

Plus her legs are sticks and she has no butt. In Pretty Woman they used a body double for all her "bedroom" scenes. I know body doubles are not unusual in movies but they tried to sell Roberts as sexy when she isn't. Just another way Hollywood plays with your mind.

87 I love this type of painting from the Dutch golden age period: pleasant scene, beautiful use of lighting, plenty of color but not garish which compliments the domestic scene, and exquisite detail. We've seen several other paintings by Pieter de Hooch and they share those qualities. They are, simply, a pleasure to look at.

I wonder if paintings like these and Vermeer's influenced the Scandi artists of domestic life a century or two later.

It's interesting how certain times and places produce so much wonderful art: Dutch Golden Age painting, drama and poetry in Elizabethan England and literature and poetry in the Victorian Era.

95 That big fireplace would have been in the kitchen. Kitchen fireplace had to be big enough to cook several things at the same time. Everything from bread to roast venison or pig had to be cooked in a fireplace. There had to be enough space for a roasting spit for the meat, a shelf grate for pots and pans, and a swing out for very large cauldron where the water was heated.

Cut in half, took out the seeds, slice of butter and a couple of cloves on each, roast in the oven on broil.
Once roasted, mash and put the pulp in sugar water with some cinnamon for syrup.
Boil until thickened.

Came out quite nice and the apples didn't go to waste.

Funny story, I filed a change of address, dated 11/04/2024. When I went to vote on 11/05, they looked at my ID, looked at the address on file, and told me I couldn't vote without some additional ID that showed the correct address. The one I JUST switched to the day prior.

Now, I ended up using the one they mailed me, and dropped it in a box, but how many votes do you think they turned away in Pinal County, from people who changed their address recently?

Says here you just moved from Cartagena? Si! And your new address is Tucson? Si! Here's your ballot, off you go, you scamp! God bless America!!

He brought home lots of different types of apples ( yum) and apple butter which was delicious, and which I hadn't had in years. He also brought home some apple wine which I wished had been sweeter. Fall is my favorite time of year.

Trump would be wise to allow the Uniparty to have its nuts in a vise from the left believing cheat in 2024 and the right which knows a cheat existed in 2020.

The GOP in office allowed the cheat in 2020 just as much as the Dems on the ground performed it.
Aside from the last minute drop and roll, I think the cheat was primarily executed by absentee ballots with no person attached aka floaters.

Voting lists were padded with non existent people during 2020 with Covid and BLM riots were preoccupying people and distracting the administration from prepwork. Once on the voting rolls, the Dems had ballots mailed to every registered voter which often were empty lots, warehouses, etc. etc. and their secret squirrels on the ground gathered those ballots up and filled them out

I doubt the backlash outside the Senate will actually work. Part of the appeal in being in the Senate is that you're better than everyone else and 6 years between elections means that 99% of policy and personnel sins are forgotten by the time they face the voters.

Also, Scott backed red-flag laws, so he's squishy, at best.

That he's better than Thune and Cornyn is more a damning of them than a praising of Scott.

Indeed it is. I'm still incensed that Thune had the stones to warn the guy who's the leader of the GOP, and lead them to an historic victory, to stay out of the Leader race. If he can do that 48 hours after Trump's victory, he thinks he can buck Trump. He's an enemy. YD said it best in the MR comments. Make sure Thune knows that if he steps out of line, he will get a primary challenge from Trump. Senate independence is one thing. Acting like Mitch's Mini-Me is quite another.

Besides, I don't think the Senate caucus is happy that because of Mitch, at least 5 seats that could have been R between 2020, 2022 and 2024 were not.

The biggest thing was my realizing that I had actually been a conservative on most issues all along, especially when compared with the crazies on campus.

Another big thing was Reagan's meeting with Gorbachev and effectively ending the Cold War. That was really impressive, and important to me personally, since I have always been interested in Russian history, language, and culture, and no longer had to see those subjecs linked to Communism.

348 I don't recall any of my professors mentioning politics . except for the one woman who taught a course of Gandhi who I now realize had an over idealized view of him. She also taught Greek drama and was brilliant, but maybe the fact that it was not a school in the Mid Atlantic states made some of the professors more conservative.
