I love this type of painting from the Dutch golden age period: pleasant scene, beautiful use of lighting, plenty of color but not garish which compliments the domestic scene, and exquisite detail. We've seen several other paintings by Pieter de Hooch and they share those qualities. They are, simply, a pleasure to look at.
I wonder if paintings like these and Vermeer's influenced the Scandi artists of domestic life a century or two later. It's interesting how certain times and places produce so much wonderful art: Dutch Golden Age painting, drama and poetry in Elizabethan England and literature and poetry in the Victorian Era. That big fireplace would have been in the kitchen. Kitchen fireplace had to be big enough to cook several things at the same time. Everything from bread to roast venison or pig had to be cooked in a fireplace. There had to be enough space for a roasting spit for the meat, a shelf grate for pots and pans, and a swing out for very large cauldron where the water was heated.

I think I've seen this movie before ...
Taylor Lorenz: (formerly of WaPo) Over the past several days, Meta's Threads has become inundated with liberal election fraud conspiracies. The conspiracies range from skepticism about vote tallies in key swing states, to allegations of a criminal coverup by Biden to force the Democrats to lose in order to (somehow eventually?) take down Trump, to claims of Russian interference with voting technology. One pervasive conspiracy as of Saturday morning centered around Elon Musk, alleging that the billionaire hacked the election through his Starlink satellite internet company, which conspiracy theorists claim is part of the voting machine supply chain. (This is false, and ironically Musk himself pushed a debunked Dominion voting machine conspiracy theory at a Trump rally last month). Posted by: SMOD at November 11, 2024 09:57 AM (RHGPo) 119

Trump's first priorities include:
Trump repeatedly clashed with executive branch personnel and has long insisted that unelected federal bureaucrats worked to subvert his initiatives from within the administration. “I will immediately reissue my 2020 Executive Order restoring the president’s authority to remove rogue bureaucrats and I will wield that power very aggressively,” Trump promised in a policy video. “Second, we will clean out all of the corrupt actors in our national security and intelligence apparatus.” He further vowed to end the weaponization of federal agencies for political purposes to prevent them from targeting conservative-leaning groups. “The departments and agencies that have been weaponized will be completely overhauled so that faceless bureaucrats will never again be able to target and persecute conservatives, Christians, and the left’s political enemies,” he said. Lovely painting- particularly the red and yellow in their clothes against the green in the rest of the picture. There is nice light through the windows. Sweet homey scene. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple apple, lemon apple, coconut apple, pepper apple, apple soup, apple stew, apple salad, apple and potatoes, apple burger, apple sandwich. The Dems are kind of in a pickle - since they made such a stink about Trump contesting the 2020 election, and since Kammie got up on her high horse and said essentially that that's not who they are, they are stuck with the results...

278 Playbook: The Rick Scott backlash builds
The Senate leader race is getting interesting. Epoch Times says Scott is surging (I can't see it behind a paywall). Politico is claiming that all the pressure will force Senators to put Thune or Cornyn in office, so please back off. That tells me they're worried Scott might win. F*** you. War. https://tinyurl.com/23kdyky2 Posted by: Archimedes at November 11, 2024 10:42 AM (xCA6C) ======== I doubt the backlash outside the Senate will actually work. Part of the appeal in being in the Senate is that you're better than everyone else and 6 years between elections means that 99% of policy and personnel sins are forgotten by the time they face the voters. Also, Scott backed red-flag laws, so he's squishy, at best. That he's better than Thune and Cornyn is more a damning of them than a praising of Scott. If he can do that 48 hours after Trump's victory, he thinks he can buck Trump. He's an enemy. YD said it best in the MR comments. Make sure Thune knows that if he steps out of line, he will get a primary challenge from Trump. Senate independence is one thing. Acting like Mitch's Mini-Me is quite another.
