That's my chair, Diana. Hadrian the Seventh Hey Petmorons, Long time lurker but a huge fan. Lost my Boo after a good life of 18 years. Sunny as a puppy but soft and squishy like all good cats. She'll be so missed. Thanks for letting me share.Thank you for sharing the lovely portrait and written profile of Boo. So sorry that you have lost her after such a long and wonderful friendship. Stay in touch. V for victory. My granddogs on Election Day. Conservative HippieThey look happy and excited! They are absolutely charming. Minnie the Minnifer says 'You have something on your shoe.' From Eromero Hi, I occasionally comment under the user name Happy, but I am mainly a reader/lurker. Anyway, today is a sad day as we have to have our Tuxedo cat Pudge put to sleep. He is only 6, but has congestive heart failure. He has been on meds and a special diet for quite awhile now, but an echocardiogram 2 days ago showed that he was at end stage. Terrible reason to finally force me to post on the Pet thread after meaning to for years now, eh? Anyway, this is Pudge, named after the former catcher for the Rangers. The orange boy in the second pic is George. He was a feral kitten we rescued. I will try to start contributing more. I'm 62, and have had both cats and dogs my entire life. Thank you, and everyone else on this site for what you do. Best site on the internet, by far.So sorry you have lost Pudge, and that he had health problems. Love the photo of him in the tree. And the one with George, who also looks like a fine cat. We look forward to seeing more comments from you in the future. Our Bernedoodle Stella is back home after tending to 10 puppies. We think she might be bored after being so busy, so we're getting in extra walks and fetching. 2009RefugeeYAY! Mama and puppies are almost unbearably charming. Congratulations! What a wonderful collection of pet stories today. Thank you for sharing your pets with us. A question for the group - we have a 30' travel trailer which we plan on taking extended 4 - 8 week tours with around the US.
We lost our beloved Golden a number of years ago across the rainbow bridge. We'd like to get another similar dog (hopefully one with more than two brain cells this time) but I hesitate wondering how compatible such a dog would be with an extended tour. Any thoughts, tips or experience would be appreciated. Life's too short to go without a dog, and boarding her isn't a real option for that long a period. My wife's cat has a ritual in the evening where he kills my boots as I take them off. He'll fight the laces until the boots tip over then he's done and walks away to go to bed. He also "gets" our elderly Pug but doesn't make contact. Full on run for the pounce and kill only to jump over him at the last minute and roll on the floor and attack on whatever furnature is near. I don't think the Pug even knows it happens.

If your local shelter has a great deal on spaying and neutering cats then you're lucky. We don't have one here so have to pay full vet fees to have it done.
At one time our vet would give discounts in the summer when they were training vet students and then I think it was just for 10 or more cats (not all at once) which even for us, is not a common number. I don't think they do that any longer. A topic that came up here a while ago, our vet won't spay a pregnant kitty and always does an ultrasound (which we pay for!) first. It's good to know with rescue cats, particularly ferals. Afternoon, Pet Folken. Hadrian, what is Diana's coat pattern called? Among collies (if I recall my Albert Payson Terhune correctly), that grey was called "merle"? And yes, it's extra hard to lose a pet friend early -- either early in her life, or early in your relationship with her, or both. Little longhaired tuxedo cat Oreo was five when I adopted her (though a vet thought she was older from her teeth), and she passed away only six years later. My first real Siberian, Tatiana, came to me at a verified five months of age, but lived to be less than four years old -- heart failure after surgery. Abrupt in both cases. So many beautiful animals and I'm so sorry for the loss of Boo and Pudge.
'Our' cats, Trumpy and Snowflake are doing well in week 7 of our experiment. We're working to get everyone onto schedules. They have been coming into my room around 6am to be put out and then come in after 8am for food. Nighttime is getting better too. Their weight is steady. They stay outside a lot but for shorter and shorter periods. Race in. Between them and the dog Ralphy, my doorman skills are impressive. Oh, and Oldcat taught me about catnip this week. Thanks to everyone for your continued support. Posted by: Stateless at November 16, 2024 04:11 PM (jvJvP) 39
As for my two furry thugs: Big black Stirling has not been sleeping with me, though he does sit on me multiple times on the weekends. (Like right now.) Little grey torbie Dagny, oddly, has been showing more affection in her peculiar cat way, sitting on the bathroom counter almost every morning this week as I brush my teeth, and curling in bed with me a couple of times. And no, it hasn't been cold yet.
They are both healthy and playful. I recently bought some Rachael Ray Nutrish dry food for them, and they dislike it, but eat it grudgingly. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at November 16, 2024 04:13 PM (omVj0) 40
When cold weather hits, Trouble becomes a part time inside cat. He'll come in during one of my outside trips with Jake. I block off half the house and he sleeps in the living room. I get Jake and Fanny on my half. Works pretty well. And we are even managing for Hank the cat to come by for food. He sleeps under the house when he wants to.

My old lorikeet hated my wallet. Would bite it and my hand if holding it. He loved my keys, could even say "keys! keys!". See, the wallet, last thing he saw me putting in my pocket before going to work, was bad because it made me leave. Keys were good, they were in my hand when I returned. Silly.

The other chow my beasts don't seem to like is Blue Buffalo Wilderness canned. They have been used to Friskies canned, the shreds or filets varieties, plus Purina One dry food, with an occasional switch to Tastefuls canned. The Wilderness and Rachael Ray dry last night was a bridge too far. Odd, since Stirling grew up on the Blue Buffalo kitten canned. Though Dagny is a little picky anyway.
They ate the majority of what I gave them this morning, so I guess they are adjusting. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at November 16, 2024 04:22 PM (omVj0) 45

Posted by: Ciampino - The Joy of Furry ompanions at November 16, 2024 03:58 PM (i0xsb) For 'our' cats, their owners took them to the humane society which only charged $50 Canadian a cat. Otherwise it was $400. We gave them that to fix Trumpy but they were able to get a $50 appointment. Our friends are raising a family in Canada so we were fine with helping out. The cats got microchipped also. They will abort kittens if the cat is pregnant but Snowflake had kittens earlier and we don't think she was pregnant again. We do think the father of her previous kittens was probably her brother Trumpy. Posted by: Stateless at November 16, 2024 04:22 PM (jvJvP) 46
41: cats are similar. When I would watch my sisters cats when she was out of town, they would immediately figure out my work schedule and when I went to put on my shoes, I had a couple of cats 'helping' me.
Helping = sitting on my shoes, blocking the door, knocking over whatever so I would have to clean it up, fighting the shoelaces while I'm tying them, etc. Posted by: Puddleglum, drive by meow at November 16, 2024 04:24 PM (sAmhv) 47

Birds are quite a bit smarter than we give them credit for. I'm told crows, for instance, can recognize individual people and will bring little gifts (shiny objects, for example) to humans they like. Yeah, I had Dagny ultrasounded a little while after she arrived. Stirling, not yet altered at that point and very precocious, had been going "Helloooo, baybee!" on her. I separated them, but I wanted to be sure Dagny hadn't been knocked up. She hadn't.

The new cat, Magic, caught a Junco yesterday, and brought it in all excited, and then let it go in the hallway.
I opened the back door, and closed all the room doors, and tried to shoo it outside, and the little SOB caught it again. I got it away from him and let the bird go outside where it flew away, hopefully not badly injured, and with a spine-tingling story. This is the cat who had lived as an apartment cat, and was confused by rain and the outdoors about a year ago, so I think he is figuring out how to be a cat. Unhappy news about daughter's cat Kismet (first seen on here years ago with his brother Comet), sometimes mentioned since. Kismet came home with a badly broken tail. Going in for surgery on Monday, to end up with just a couple of inches of that big, beautiful fluffy tail he had. He will have to re-learn how to jump! Going to be wearing a cone and crate-bound for a couple of weeks. We'll be hosting him while Daughter & Hub are out of town for Thanksgiving.
