I laughed at Conan's speech as interpreted by Trump.
This AI thing is getting pretty amazing. From what I can glean, I think the GOP needs only 1 more tossup House seat to reach the 218 needed for a majority. A godawfl RINO woman incumbent (whom I never heard of before) lost her seat in NW OR. It sounds like addition by subtraction, except that the GOP needs every vote to organize the House. It still seems to me that the surviving (and new) GOP members in Congress are moving to the right, while the reverse of that is true for the DEMs. The so-called moderates in both parties are disappearing faster than Spotted Owls. I hope Kamlabombo sees that Venn Diagram. She said she likes them. So impressive. You never know with her.
The cackling video of her lipstick on her coffee cup "joke" served three things (I guess). She thinks she's funny and she's not. Her voice annoys me, so I can only imagine the piercing dog whistle for men's ears. Third, she is implying that SHE is the only female in the meeting. Big deal. So what. I was often in the minority with friends and thought nothing of it, hiking or skiing. They were friends and I did not think, "Wow, look at me." So I reckon she knows she's boring and had to climb the ladder somehow with Willy. He may have started doing that just to shut her up. In my prime I was the last human standing at keggers, and cracking jokes. Wasted outta my mind, but still standing and partying in college. Funny stories, I was told. She is a dud. Posted by: mnw at November 08, 2024 10:24 PM (NLIak) 84
So is everyone breathing easier this weekend like you're in the middle of an extended vacation?
For me, Trump winning means we have a functioning President, even if not in office yet. Chess pieces on the world's chessboard are moving, and would not have moved were it not for Trump's election (see: Hamas getting kicked out of Qatar, e.g.). I have to wonder if some serious shit hit the fan, to whom would the military turn? A senile out-going dementia patient or an alky woman who can't string two sentences together? World leaders are already reacting in ways unthinkable two weeks ago. For many across Europe who are sick of open borders and the NWO, Trump is a lifeline to them, too. Contrary to what our dying corporate media says, the sane world of 'men can't get pregnant' and the like breathed a sigh of relief with Trump's victory right along with us. This win feels different. We didn't slay Obama in 2016. But I feel we did in 2024 as he no longer seems to have the black masses in his thrall. I'm so lucky to be alive to see Trump. The black flag has been raised. Now it's time to figuratively start slitting some (bureaucrats') throats. We can lead the world in this, too. Posted by: RickZ at November 08, 2024 10:25 PM (gKDq2) 85

Democrat Consultants Who Joined Commiela Harris’s Team Turned Out to Be CROOKS Who Deceived Donors, Vacuumed Up All Their Cash, and Fled On Election Day, Democrat donors all across the country were spammed with phony texts begging them to donate as much cash as possible in the eleventh hour to boost Kamala Harris’ chance of victory. It turns out the texts came from “consultants” who infiltrated the election to siphon up as many donations as possible before fleeing with all the loot. A group called the “Pro-Choice Majority 2024” sent messages like the following all the way up to the moment the polls closed: “Kamala SINKING in Pennsylvania: 46% – 48% We need your help!!! RUSH $20 TO DEFEAT DONALD TRUMP NOW! go.prochoicedems.io/1105b4” Pro-Choice Majority 2024 spent ZERO DOLLARS opposing Trump, supporting Kamala Posted by: SMOD at November 08, 2024 10:30 PM (GITLP) 100

Here we go. Daily Beast says Trump already broke a campaign promise.
Because Trump said he would have the Ukraine war settled within 24 hours (of becoming President), then he said he would probably do it before it takes office. So they decided that he meant within 24 hours of getting elected, and are calling it a broken promise and a lie. But you can be sure they're learning and self evaluating. They're going to be way more in touch with The People for the next election. Watch. Posted by: ... at November 08, 2024 10:56 PM (lX8VI) 187

I saw a suggestion online for those that want to try and reach their leftwing friends/family members. Tell them you don't want to get into politics...but ask them to write down somewhere whatever horrible thing they think Trump will do. And be specific. And check that note every week and see if he's done it. And if he hasn't maybe you can stop worrying about him and the world. And thinking back to Trump's last time in office there is a lot of weight to this. Remember the big claim going into the election and shortly thereafter was that Trump would start WWIII. And then of course a couple of years later they impeached him because he refused to start WWIII over "Russian collusion" Posted by: 18-1 at November 08, 2024 11:03 PM (oZhjI) 205

Christy, Hubby and I were talking about polling accuracy the other day. We don't answer calls if we don't recognize the number. I think most people are like that, so how accurate can the polls be? Posted by: four seasons at November 08, 2024 11:20 PM (3ek7K) We don't answer the door, either. A few times this summer a young guy kept coming around and had an ipad or something. I spied at him from our security cameras and hoped he'd finally give up. I once made the tragic mistake to answer a lot of banging and doorbell ringing and it was a Jehovah Witness vs a neighbor telling me our roof was on fire. I told them I was saved and don't come back. I was sort of nice about it. So who is polled is a good question. I trust none. Not exit polls, either as I have a tendency to think I'd lie. Congress remedied Washington's lack of stars back in '76 as part of the bicentennial. They passed a law that said no officer shall every outrank George Washington. Technically there is a "6 star" rank (General of the Armies --note the plural -- and Admiral of the Navy), but there is no official insignia for it. So, per that George Washington is automatically promoted to the highest rank created. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at November 09, 2024 02:06 AM (w6EFb) 466

Congress used to be quite stingy with stars, especially for the Navy. They didn't want a bunch of admirals running around thinking they were hot shit. There's something about "commodore" here as well as a courtesy title, I'm trying to remember. Back in those old days, if a captain commanded more than one ship as part of some operation, he got to be called "commodore". And they would keep that, and insist on being called commodore all the time. And not just captains. At one point, they quipped that any midshipmen who was in charge of two dinghies was calling himself a commodore. The history of "commodore" in the US Navy is interesting. It's been a title and a rank. In WWII, a one-star rank called Commodore was created. It didn't outlast WWII and was part of the special wartime thing created and not the regular Navy. In the 1980s they recreated it as "Commodore Admiral", one-star. That was very controversial, a lot of them didn't like it, and it was abolished. The one-star rank is officially, rear admiral, lower half (RADL). There's quite a tale of pecking-order pettiness and brass-envy with rear admirals and all that. The term rear admiral came from the old days of the Royal Navy. They had a big ships-of-the-line formation. The big admiral was in the middle on his flagship. The #2, the vice-admiral was in the front, and a third admiral, #3, was at the rear. Hence, "rear admiral". Now, this upper half and lower half business. In the old days, they had a list of these rear admirals. They cut the list in two, the upper half and the lower half. The upper half got paid at a higher grade than the lower half. After WWII, the lower half was the equivalent of a one-star rank, and the upper half was a two-star rank. But, all the rear admirals got to wear two stars. There was no one-star rank in the Navy. This pissed off the Army and the others. You'd have some one-star brigadier general pissed off that some punk who just got promoted got to wear two stars, and he, more senior got only one. Now, after the "Commodore Admiral" mess (this pissed the navy off, for traditional reasons I'm not sure of), the Navy now has a RADL, Rear Admiral, Lower Half rank which is officially just one star. @517 Krebs v Carnot,
Put on TV Land and have these people sit though one season of Starsky and Hutch. They'd be comatose. As has been noted previously, Blazing Saddles would have killed them. Karl Denninger just wrote a piece on this "Trump's tariffs will be inflationary!" nonsense.
It's just that, nonsense, and anyone with any basic understanding of economics knows it. Yeah, a tariff raises the price of an imported good. But that increase in price, a tax, goes directly the federal coffers, reducing the deficit spending. So, statically, it's a zero inflation thing. No new credit/printing. Now, dynamically, what does it do. To the extent it causes production of said taxed items to shift to the US (which is the idea), it will be net deflationary.
