Mandate
[Dave in Fla]
A presidential candidate in the United States has not won a mandate since Ronald Reagan in 1984. There have been significant wins by candidates, notably Obama in 2008. But those wins all came with deep divisions within the electorate, and no national consensus on the direction of the country.
While we are enjoying watching TikTok videos of liberals having mental breakdowns, we may lose sight of the fact that Trump didn't just win. He won with a resounding mandate from the electorate. The people have spoken and have given the green light for Republicans to implement HIS agenda, and they expect them to keep that promise.
I want to give credit to Rich Baris and Sean Parnell for many of these thoughts, and the impetus to look into some of these numbers. Sean has an excellent show on Rumble called Battleground Live, and Rich joins him every Wednesday on the show. You should absolutely check it out, it is one of the best hours of my week.
Political coalitions are built with the intent of getting an election to 50%+1 vote. Rarely do campaigns spend a lot of time worrying about broad expansion of their base. I talked about this on the podcast; in 2012 the Obama coalition decided to jettison the white working class, because they believed they could get more votes through racial division. The Harris campaign was a poster child for this philosophy, calling half the country nazis and garbage, just to find a way to eke out that 50+1.
But the Trump victory is different, and do not underestimate it because it is only 52% and only 312 electoral votes. When you dive into the underlying numbers, you see an amazing pattern.
Trump built his coalition by adding votes in EVERY DEMOGRAPHIC.
This is unheard of. When you appeal to the upper middle class with your message, you usually will turn off a different demographic, like lower income working class. Romney was a great example of this with his 47% comment.
But Trump was different.
Trump increased his Jewish vote in Michigan by 20%
Trump ALSO WON Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, the densest Arab American community in the state. He didn't just increase his margin; he outright won the cities.
Trump WON the Hispanic vote in Michigan 60-40.
Trump won working class Monroe County at 64%, but he also increased vote share in wealthy Oakland County by 5%.
There is a video of John King showing a stunned Jake Tapper a map of the nation where they highlighted every county where Harris increased support over Biden. The map was blank. Trump increased or maintained his 2020 levels in every county in the nation in their exit polls.
The follow graphic is from the New York Times, showing the change in voting behavior in every county in the United States. This is the 90% result, since the west coast is still compiling results. While there are a few pockets of blue, it shows that Trump built support in every state in the nation. He cut the Democrat lead to 10 points in New York and 7 points in New Jersey.
We have reached the point where we can no longer call the Great Lakes states the Blue Wall. They are swing states now, like Florida used to be. The new Blue Wall is the Mid Atlantic, and Republicans could very possibly take New Jersey and Virginia in 2028.
Make no mistake, Trump won nationally by building his votes in every demographic. He had coat tails, flipping Senate seats from blue to red, and increased the Republican majority in the House. He won the popular vote in a convincing manner, something no Republican has done in 20 years.
He enters his term with a Mandate. And the voters are expecting the Republicans to follow through.

And I'm not that impressed with the Senate gains. The map favored us, bigly. Everyone expected us to take it.
I remember election night in 1980. It was a much more crushing win than this, even without the House.
Do not forget that this was Biden's mistake 4 years ago; acting as if he had FDR's mandate, when he had something more like 1948 or 1960. Yes, this is better than those. But not all that much better.
Let's not forget the last two rosy projections. There's a lot left to do.

For some purposes, they can't. Some usages use a mix of Russian oil with Saudi/US oils. Its why the embargo never fully tried to cut off oil. Its why we import Russian oil ourselves.

It is not for some sliver of what Trump talked about which the weaker sisters among us think is universally acceptable.
Everyone knew a final reckoning with the deep state was necessary and the assassination attempts clarified that fact. That has to be done, along with ending the gender weirdness and getting the economy back on track and focused on employing Americans to make things which other Americans can use.

It is his agenda that the voters expect to be delivered.

Colorado is mostly red. No doubt people stayed home, in part because they knew they wouldn't overcome the Denver/Boulder insanity.
Lauren Boobert easily won her congressional race, in a different district than the one she represented before.
The guy who is taking her former seat won more handily than she did last time.

Eh, I'll do it here.
Miami is a great place to vacation...if you're young and single. Women just running around everywhere in scanty clothing. Not just the bikini babes, but just...women in general not wearing much clothing. But if you're older or going as a couple or family, it's not great. Not enough to do and seemingly not really a city focused on the tourist trade, apart from restaurants. The Holocaust Memorial in South Beach is very disturbing and memorable, lots of orthodox Jews there too. The Cubans are the most friendly and welcoming of the locals and I had some great meals in smaller, out of the way places. Lots of good rum.
Key West on the other hand is very touristy, but the vibe is very laid back. I was actually able to relax, finally, once I got there. Weather was slightly cooler than Miami, oddly. It's overfull of nick nacks and gift shops and there are a lot of gay bars but you can avoid that. Nice Botanical Garden with sea turtles nearby in Boca Chica.

Head waters start in the Rockies (Colorado)...as does the Rio Grande, btw. I think some excavation in the right places can make the Rio Grand a lot more robust as a gift to Texas. We didn't used to have the technology or machinery to do something like that. We do now. Intricate elevation based topological mapping, computer simulation and you could cut California out of the loop...as well as New Mexico.

When I worked in the inner city, it was totally normal and regular for church buses to make stops at polling stations. A guy would get out with a clipboard and remind each voter what their name was at that station. Then they would drive off to next station.
Driving around town you would see many of those white church buses helping the poor forgetful voters get to their polling station. (which were always walking distance, being on every other block,...)

I used to look at the vote totals for winning Aldermen. There are 50, and they sometimes would have fewer that 15K votes - like that idiot AOC bounced in a primary. Yet Chicago has eleventy billion voters and dominates a whole state? An alderman is a pretty high position in the city.

Remember the Jill Stein lawsuit to recount ballots in several (maybe 6?) states in 2016? They started counting in Detroit, IIRC, and the results were so bad they stopped and made her suit go away.
They opened ballot boxes certified as having hundreds of votes for Hillary, that instead held ~50 ballots total.
In 2020 the posted Detroit precinct turnout rates were running over 100%, with one reporting something like 187%. The details disappeared off the internet as soon as it got some attention, brushed off as an error, blah blah blah.

As for the GOP "increasing its House majority"... (rubs chin; swallows nervously)...
Per DDHQ, at this moment the GOP majority has grown from 8 last time to 9 this time SO FAR. Since "9" is more than "8," I'm a buy in on the "increase." There are still about 10-15 too-close-to-call seats, disproportionately out west: CA (but of course); AZ; the PNW.
I don't know if the House results support the otherwise solid "mandate" assertion. We'll see.
I do think it's clear that the new GOP Speaker will once again be at the mercy (and whim) of Mike Goetz & Thomas Massie, just like last time.

I recently read some of the finally UNCENSORED original version of Samuel Pepys's diaries -- the famous 17th-century British civil servant who documented life in 1660s London in exquisite detail.
Turns out the original diaries were so randy that they were censored before original publication centuries ago, and only the censored versions have ever been seen by the public. But now scholars have finally discovered and publish all (or at last some) of the original version, and -- ZOW -- Pepys was the 17th-century Donald Trump!
In one section, he hires a new low-level maid, based entirely on her appealing body, and he later writes of being discovered by his wife while he was in the parlor canoodling with the maid, with (as he puts it) "my hand up her cuny" under her maid skirt. ("Cuny" is 17th century for "pussy").

Post 2008, we heard nonstop that the GOP would have to change to win. They were right. Now it is true for the Democrats: They will have to change to win.
The thing is, it usually takes a party many Presidential election losses to be remade (think Democrats, who suffered from 1968-1992, with only one close win thanks to Watergate in that span).
Republicans should have suffered longer, but we didn't because we allowed Trump to instantly change our messaging. He was a force of nature and a once in a lifetime kind of politician.
I don't know who that could be for Democrats, especially since the entire structure of the party is designed to prevent the kind of hostile takeover that Trump has done to the GOP (to instant success)

I am hoping it is correct that Trump's coattails increased the R majority in the House. All I see are AZ, NV, and CA slow rolling their counts and the media outlets refusing to call any more races. So it appears the Rs are stuck at 211-212 even though they are running ahead in many races. Any site that has a good breakdown on the state of House races would be appreciated.

I've never gotten what "boomercon" refers to. As in all eras, the right is a coalition of often contradictory opponents of the progs. Has been that way since the word was coined. There is a strong tendency among some of them to assume more unanimity than there is. Among the latter are libertarians, somewhat more sane classical liberals, and Straussians.
Since I've always been out of step with the great majority of conservatives, but always have hated the left, I'm quite conscious of this. It's why I often just go by "reactionary."

The scheme involves Kagan resigning "conditionally, to be effective if and only if" her Biden-nominated successor is confirmed before the new Senate is sworn in.
Apparently conditional resignations have been used successfully in the past, although not at the SCOTUS level.
A smarter play for the DEMs would've been to persuade Kagan to tender her resignation a year ago. As a member of a 3-4 vote minority (on anything controversial), losing her vote a few months early wouldn't have been very consequential for the DEMs.
The whole Kagan-to-quit-early idea sounds like "PTRBGS"-- "Post Traumatic Ruth Bader Ginsburg Disorder."
