Spoils system had its issues but compliance with your party when running government was not one of them. In historical reality, a lot of the low level offices were run by a semi permanent staff with the patronage appointment above them.

What parties did not tolerate was some unelected junior bureaucrat going off on their own with actions. Competent people ran things even in machine cities because it would cause society to be unable. The patronage people were there to pay off activists, donors, etc. and ensure compliance within their organization.

The major problem was if a president had corrupt political friends that sought to grift and sometimes break things like US Grant had.

The sad truth is that there really is never going to a 'non partisan' professional set of bureaucrats--in time, they create their own insular incumbent party and exercise their own policies regardless of the people above them.

Even FDR had that problem which is why he found it easier to create new agencies with overlapping powers rather than rebuild the older agencies.

You could shut down this sanctuary state stuff in about two seconds flat. Thanks to Reagan tying highway funding to raising the drinking age, we know that SCOTUS thinks that's a-okay as long as the funding is tied to an actual expense by the fedgov. If the gov can claim raising the drinking age reduces the amount of money it costs to maintain a highway (dubious, but okay), it's CERTAINLY true that housing illegals raises the cost of education, healthcare, housing etc. etc.

So -- no federal funding for section 8, medicaid, or schools if the state will not affirmatively cooperate with the feds and follow immigration laws. There you go. Done.

These were ones I tried to gently persuade. Share news on the murders due to crime and immigration, share the news about the Trump tax cuts that will help them, like no tax on SS. The ad about Kamala supporting the bill that criminalized parents for truant kids, including the sick kids, made a huge mark. Tried to do my part to make it less icky to fill out Trump on their ballot.

I think the breach in protocol in denying Senate campaign funds to Senator Cruz and blowing millions for a useless race by non senator Hogan in MD will cause senators to trim whoever becomes majority leader's sails by denying them that level of control in the future. Normally, the senate caucus always reserves its funds for its own members first and then to the most likely races to win.

Mitch got obsessed with ideological control by purposefully squashing outsiders and I think that is probably at an end with whoever takes the reins. Mitch lost, Tea Party is getting its revenge.

Second, Mitch exercised an abnormal level of control over fellow senators in his caucus regarding floor amendments to bills having to go through him for approval in most cases. I think that power is going to be stripped as well.

The US would be far better served if the party leaders in Congress are weakened in favor of seniority and committee chairs than by strong party leaders.

Jimmy was one of the many on the Young Turks back in the day. Dave Rubin was another. At some point they got purged and formed their own shows which probably are doing better than TYT which the algorithm doesn't show me for some reason.

I watch his show every so often, he's liberal but it is the older style and he's pretty honest even when the dirty tricksters go after Trump. Its a good window on what the last of the old style left thinks of things, and some of their contacts have inside info on the left press.

558 Zombie, Jan. 6 was the date of the rally in DC that went sideways, with the "we're like the tea party!" freedom LARPers taking over the capitol. (the crowd was possibly let in my capitol police, who held doors open for them, and there were CIA spooks and leftists antifa in the crowd also stirring up the takeover.)

Trump was speaking like a mile away on the Mall, and stressed for everyone to be peaceful. But the left has used to to claim he stages an insurrection on america. They used it as the excuse to silence him on social media and to start new lawfare. And to jail people as examples to the rest of us.

Between that and the lawfare suits, they wanted to delegitimize him as a lawful president who wants peace. Thankfully the American people saw through the nonsense!

I think one of Trump's goals is to release ALL the evidence of what happened that day un-redacted, and to pardon all the prisoners. I hope so.
