They Are Becoming Self-Aware Video of the Day

Not At All Tech News

Mint and Dokibird have been playing hardcore Minecraft for nine hours now. Calli, IRyS, and Biboo have been playing Space Marine 2.

And Hololive is adding new generations as fast as Nijisanji members can graduate.

hololive DEV_IS FLOW GLOW - the naming scheme is getting out of control - is basically the Gen 8 of the Japanese branch, or in other words, that branch's tenth generation, since the numbering scheme has also gotten out of control.

When I first started watching vtubers, back during the Wuhan Bat Soup Death Plague, there was no Hololive EN, no Nijisanji EN, no Phase Connect or Prism Project. I watched Hololive JP's Haachama and Coco, who spoke English, and Korone, who didn't really but she has so much energy and enthusiasm that it never mattered.

Now there's hundreds of them. I even watched the election results being presented by a vtuber named Kirsche.

6 The second-from-the-left vtuber in the thumbnail reminds me of a character from a harem anime that Pooky used to watch (not me, I hate harem animes). She had an image of a clock in her left eye and her power was turning back time. Was it Date Alive? I can't remember.

Kirsche is actually pretty based. She goes deep on DEI investigation and it's next step of BRIDGE where the companies no longer need DEI departments because it's fully integrated into the company at all levels.

14 Speaking of Intel vs. AMD, an article from The Register:

https://is.gd/B24yRB

Intel sued over Raptor Lake voltage instability - Failure to warn customers about chip flaw leads to fraud claim

Claims made:
- Intel knew the defects in the 13th and 14th generation Raptor Lake processors existed
- They kept marketing them anyway, touting the positives without mentioning the problems
- The chips are unstable and cause repeated crashes

And it's not a class action lawsuit (yet) but it may turn into one.

16 @11/weft cut-loop: "Near future" for a build for me is when the components are a couple of generations back from "the bleeding edge" so I'm no longer paying the R&D price premium that early adopters/purchasers do. I've learned to be patient, jot down what's interesting, and then keep an eye on the price points, as well as any problems that develop (also exposed by early adopters.)

This is the "jotting down" moment.

That delay also allows issues to pan out and the online reviews and dicussions begin to coalesce around any problems

After many generations of builds, CPU revisions, driver hellscapes, BSOD TSRs, chipset woes, standards revisions, you really don't want bleeding edge, unless your genuine need outweighs your unavailability to be a tech lab rat.

30 @25/Pete Bog: Further to what Pixy said: Batch job run time, if you're crunching a lot of numbers. Having the jobs run faster means if you get an unexpectedly large amount of data for a given job, you stand a better chance of getting it done within its allotted time window, allowing descendant jobs to kick off on-time and with the data they need.

Or: You now have extra time to fix a problem and re-run the job before its time window expires.

Like files multiply to occupy all available filing cabinet drawer space, job load tends to grow to occupy all available processing time.

Otherwise, you're left with generic benchmarks on workloads similar to what you contemplate (rendering, compiling, IO, AI) to determine whether the cost and time to implement is worth it over how much time it takes on your current hardware.

93 Ben Had!

Yep, the kittens have recovered from the Spay/neuter procedures with barely a brief hiccup in their romper room antics.

We may have an answer to their somewhat unique appearances as well.

The family whom Bandit (The mother cat) adopted has a photo of the male cat that is the suspected father to the kittens. And his appearance very closely resembles a Norwegian Forest Cat. Known for long and bushy tails, big paws and the male being 'much' bigger than the female.

Both of them have those characteristics, including Frog being over 8 pounds at 5 months of age, and little Margo barely hitting 5 pounds at exactly the same age.

There's a place for EVs in the economy and the scale just needs to be economy driven (no pun intended). At this point, they're largely status items. When the batteries begin to reach their life limit and we need to find a way to dispose of them, people and governments are gonna see the true costs.

102 Ballot harvesting another forms of cheating are often hard to detect because of the secret ballot and the commingling with valid votes. The thing is if you stop doing it it kind of gets noticed too. Like where did the 15 million votes your candidate got last time go? Sure 15 million people could have sat this one out, but that is highly unlikely. The exit polls would have showed something far more dramatic. Anyway, either there's 15 million real people who didn't vote for the Democrat or we got our cleanest statistical sign of what happened in 2020.

Side note, look what happened to Oregon and Washington after they went full mail-in voting. Those used to be competitive States and the demographics would indicate they still should be fairly close.

Elon said awhile back that there was no way to electrify the entire American vehicle fleet because there isn’t enough electricity generation or distribution to support EVs in their current state.

He also told Joe Rogan last week that Tesla is the only EV manufacturer that isn’t receiving government subsidies for their vehicles. I’m not sure if this is true or not but that’s what he said.

Elon won’t even try to hold Trump back from killing the EV mandate because he knows Tesla will do well regardless.

106 So, it's joke time, is it?

I first heard this from Norm McDonald, whom I met in Saskatchewan in 1987 (well, maybe not):

A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller.
He can see from her nameplate that her name is Patty Whack.

"Miss Whack, I'd like to get a $30,000 loan to take a holiday."

Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager.

Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral.

The frog says, "Sure. I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and perfectly formed.

Very confused, Patty explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office.

She finds the manager and says, "There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000, and he wants to use this as collateral." She holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what in the world is this?"

The bank manager looks back at her and says, "It's a knickknack, Patty Whack. Give the frog a loan. His old man's a Rolling Stone."

111 When the government issues mandates, you get the CFL light bulb. Pretty much a poorly thought out product, rejected by most, and mostly relegated to the dustbin of history.

You let market forces work as intended, and you get the now ubiquitous LED light bulb.

Adopted by many, and providing light to our homes that in many cases replicates the pleasant experience of an incandescent light.

I would suspect that Tesla is pretty close to the LED aspect of the story arc of home illumination.

164 I'm a strong believer in reincarnation and I see all the parallels between Elon and Howard Hughes... it's eerie, but Elon was born in 1971 and Howard died in 1976. So, a no go.

Perhaps, he is Tesla incarnate, quite possibly the greatest genius of all time... Tesla that is.

Tech geeks and other science types bemoan the loss of Tesla's Free Energy, and it certainly seems it was suppressed at
the time by their version of the Deep State, but...

They may have had an ethical reason actually for doing so, than not being able to profit from it (this wasn't true at all, they were planning to license it and make a fortune on selling licenses).

Why, the tech was suppressed had more to do with its ability to be weaponized and proliferated.

And its destructive power. As the brilliant Dr. Joseph P. Farrell has said frequently, This technology makes nuclear bombs "look like firecrackers."

Four manikins, two to a lane, can shut down a two lane road because self driving vehicles cannot determine if they are manikins or human standing there. Once stopped, trucks are ripe for the picking and cars for the jacking.

187 104 89 Elon said awhile back that there was no way to electrify the entire American vehicle fleet because there isn’t enough electricity generation or distribution to support EVs in their current state.

I forget who Rogan was interviewing on the episode but I saw one awhile back where he was explaining why he loved his Tesla so much.

He said it was the absolute best in L.A. rush-hour traffic where he could set it to Auto-Pilot and just sit back, relax, watch videos and read, and just enjoy his non-stressful ride.

Now that I can see.
Just the absence of road rage inducing stress would be worth it.

I am so glad to hear someone else say that! Agree strongly with both of you! I have been saying for years that we computerize things that never should be automated at all (see paper ballot in-person voting discussions, OPM loss of data from personnel records on machines that never should have been on the 'net). There is nothing in this world that works so well that it can't be computerized and brought to a screeching halt! There, now. I feel much better.
