Kamala Harris Addresses What Can Be (Unburdened By What Has Been)

The Queen finally arrived.

Kennedy
@KennedyNation

Kamala Harris will concede at 6pm. Why not earlier? What is the significance of the passage of time?

Holy crap -- this moment is so important that Kamala's using her actual accent!!!

They were just playing the song "Girls Run the World."

I guess not.

As we wait for this drunk to splash cold water on her face: Remember, Gen X is Best Gen.

And now, a few decades later, a major party political candidate didn't even have a concession speech ready and was too distraught to deliver it even if it existed.

Why should anyone listen to him or Big Mike when they just delivered the White House to Orange Austrian Painter?

2004 Cheat by mail and election season with weeks of early voting had not come about in most states.

2008 Marginal cheating because the image of Obama was just that entrancing because of slavery expiation just by electing the black man.

Also helped McCain was a self sabotaging nasty old man and the GWB's administration had a Dem Goldman Sachs Treasury secretary that coincidentally set in motion the meltdown and used the bailout money as a slush fund illegally.

2012, I think the era of institutionalized cheating began via vote by mail exploitation, creation of a whole host of fly by night organizations to keep in place a regular army for registering, ballot harvesting, and cheating as poll workers in urban areas, and so on.

There is no standard. It depends on who is studying what, and how they break it down.

The original guy who coined the term had it going from 45-59 (15 years, which is a common way to divide "generations."

More recently people like 20 year breakdowns.

The main problem is that "boomers" were mostly defined by the Vietnam war (going, avoiding, protesting,...) but those born in the 60s were way too young to worry about the draft.

In 2020, there were so many seeds planted (It'll look like he's leading but hold on, simultaneous stoppages across six states, etc.).

None of that happened last night. The trickle of complaints was few and far between.

But just in effect saying, "Vote for me, I've got a black ass," or "I've got a cooch" or both doesn't make it in my book. What have you done, what policies do you propose, what makes you the candidate of choice, in short, why should I vote for you?

Biden beat Trump in his mind so it was just profession hatred with Trump. With Kamala, I think the Biden's hate for her, Pelosi, and Obama for their betrayal is personal.

It wasn't Trump that ended Biden's run for a second term and being gracious permits the Bidens ooze back into their Delaware home without being pursued by the cops. All while burnishing Biden's legacy (in his mind).

Joe was never like Obama, an ideologue. He was more like Kamala with no principles at all but had the basic competence of a pol to ride the tides of his era in politics. Cunning if you will.

I'm an older Millennial and here's how I see it: it depends on where you are in the birth order.

Older Millennials who are the younger children of older Boomers with Gen X older siblings are, in my experience, much more aligned with X than with the younger Millennials. Older Millenials who are the oldest children of younger Boomers (or only children) are much more aligned with the core and later Millennials than they are with Gen X, despite being the same age as each other.

It was a West German-Soviet-French-Swiss sci-fi production, and it is most awful. Werner means really, really, bad, God-awful abomination, and you should check it out only if you feel the need for self-induced despair and personal distress. Werner should clarify that he was not the "God" from the title. Was it awful because of Werner? This is one of those instances where collective guilt does exist. Even worse, there was a Russian remake in 2013, which was much, much worse, and that is saying something. It did, at least, not have a German Prog Rock score, which was recorded under the guise of music in the 1989 version. Someday, Werner feels, someone will develop the means of time travel in order to keep either version from being made. By some paradox, though, this may end up in Werner deciding to turn Bochco's "Cop Rock" into a movie. Ach.

Interesting. I'm definitely an outlier then. I'm the oldest (of 4) of two of the youngest Boomers ('56 and '5, and I conform to way more X than millennial stereotypes.

Yes, and I believe there was shitfraud in 2020. But a couple things. First, California still has not counted almost half of their votes. So there's roughly 7-8 million of your 15 million. Several other states haven't finished their popular vote count, either (but they're not as behind as Calif.) Second, Kamala was stupider than Joe Biden and everyone knew this. Imagine if an even dumber version of ¡Jeb! were the Republican nominee in 2024. I sure as hell would have sat it out. Despite what celebrities and the media said, people knew Kamala was a GD idiot who didn't deserve this job. All the enthusiasm for her was fake.

Posted by: The Unmasked and Unvaxed Ranger - Ready to Dip in Trump Branded Pudding, Classy and Luxurious at November 06, 2024 04:30 PM (M7vhK)
###################################

The other generations are defined relative to the Baby Boomers, and the most common definition of the Baby Boomers is the birth-years 1945-1964, with the other generations being 15 years each. This means Gen X consists of those born in 1965-1979, Gen Y (Millennials) in 1980-1994, and Gen Z (Zoomers) in 1995-2009. Similarly, the Silent Generation was born in 1930-1944, and the Greatest Generation in 1915-1929.

However, many people shift the Baby Boomer range slightly, or don't use exactly 15 years for all the other generations, or don't use exactly 20 years for the Boomers, so there's a tremendous amount of inconsistency.

And it doesn't mean much, anyway.

I have always hated US political speeches with few exceptions. Reagan could always deliver a speech if not write it as president. Clinton could rise to the occasion in a few speeches. Trump's meandering rally speeches leads my mind to meander and tune out.

Watched his last rally in Lansing to compare with a few rally speeches I saw in 2016. Effective I think in bonding with the audience and sticking talking points in his speech. But not really speeches in the traditional sense. More like Trump was musing out loud to the audience in stream of consciousness mode.

She has name recognition now that she didn't have before, which she'll coast on before the other candidates swamp her out conclusively.

But she's no one's preferred candidate but her own. She'll be able to raise some money and run a campaign for a while, always with promises of more money should she hit this polling benchmark or that other metric, but she's going to crash and burn again. It will be humiliating.

And I fully expect her to suicide after it.

Somewhat true. Faster hardware is always useful for video production and the newest compression techniques for HD video.

I've found the sweet spot of price v performance when doing computer builds is about 1-2 years back of the cutting edge. Right now, the enticing cpu gaming models would be the 7800xd3 except those have rose precipitously due to decreasing supply as AMD switches over to the 9800 series.

Raptor Lake CPU designs aren't bad for gaming if you don't mind bigger power supply and higher energy costs.

I tend to go a bit slower and cooler as I used desktops for av production and archiving video collection to better compressed archives on blu ray.

Still buy blu ray drives for archiving but in the midst of changing over to all removable ssd storage in the future.

We're in a period where video encode/decode (mostly encode) accelerators make sense again. Nowadays, they're called "GPUs" and are way too expensive to use as just video encoding accelerators.

Except one: the low-end Intel ARC A380. It's a decidedly low-end GPU but it has ARC's truly excellent encoding hardware and is cheap enough to slap into a box as just a video offload engine.

I'm buying one for my decade-old Plex server to handle the higher-resolution stuff in my video library. My poor old system barely manages high-bitrate HD and can't handle 4k at all. Replacing it with something that can would cost more than I want to spend. An A380 is $120 and will rip through multiple streams at high quality simultaneously.

Bova's discussion of the project he was involved with was fairly heartbreaking. The EPA mandated that old coal power plants could only do minor tweaking under the Clean Air Act and that any project like MHD retrofits would require them to go through the whole permitting process again as if they were a new plant. I think the project also generated one or another pollutant (NoX?) above allowable levels.

So the project was scrapped despite successful demonstration of a working project and a bunch of gubmint DoE money.

There are better ways to do that (using excess power) . Lots of discoveries are made by having lots of PCs do part of the analysis in the background if you sign up to do them.

Most of the processing time in AI is in the programming of the model. That is one and done and from then on producing the result is quick. But our company made one that could track people walking about and see if they got too close to a forbidden area live speed about a frame a second on moderate PCs.

My recollections of binge-watching & channel surfing last night are few:

1) The whoop of joy & hymn-singing in Trumpland when PA was finally called.

2) Britt Hume absolutely LAYING THE WORD OF GOD on Juan Williams.

3) Bill Hemmer scampering around his state-and-county pop-up machine like a chimp on meth.

4) Laura Ingraham breaking in frequently with something interesting which I hadn't thought of.

5) Maddow reacting quite normally, like a sane person... which was a big disappointment. Score one for her.

6) Hannity being the first to state bluntly and succinctly that Trump would win. Period. (While everybody else was pussyfooting around, trying hard to avoid saying what was obvious).

7) FOX still had not called MT Senate when I went to bed at 4am-- despite three-finger fatboy losing by 20 points! Quite a contrast to their AZ call in 2020.

I was looking at that as well, local Micro Center has a Sparkle brand version of it in stock (or did).
Some folks did have driver problems when they dual boot as both of my current systems are set to do.

Apparently though the new Ryzen 9000 chips make AVX 512 fly and AMD just displaced Intel as the premier (by revenue) workstation and small server cpu suppliers. Their EPYC keep getting better and better apparently and their Ryzen are downstream from the EPYC.

Looking to move to virtualization with my next build simply to reduce the number of computers I have around the house.

Have several (builds I did for parents among them) that I need to gut and take to recycling.

Have a Windows 95 laptop down there too that got me through my masters degree. Still boots but the NiM batteries need to be rebuilt.

Dedicated side processors for analysis makes all sorts of sense. Leaving out side crap lets a cheap unit fly. I used to make software that could suck 1GHz data to a PC and to disk, and even do a bit of processing. a decade or more ago.

They're designed to be appliance cores (routers, storage processors, etc.), but they're fully-blown, real computers with management interfaces. I use them for my virtualization hosts. A pair of them, my NAS and my network kit run on under 250 watts average and generates almost no heat.
