Are We In The Endgame Of The Ukraine Fiasco? Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, General Dynamics, And Boeing Hardest Hit!

What a shock! Russia is slowly grinding up Ukraine's resources and army, which should surprise exactly nobody with two neurons to rub together.

This isn't an unexpected twist either. Russia is almost five times the size of Ukraine by population, and 10 times the size by GDP. And in a war in which both sides are using roughly the same tactics and strategy, the larger country will have the advantage.

The West is busily sending its own stocks of advanced weaponry to Ukraine, but the results are resoundingly disappointing. And that shouldn't be a surprise. The Ukrainian army is by now mostly conscripts, and advanced weaponry wielded by a barely-trained army may provide a modest advantage, but not a resounding one.

Russia makes substantial gains in Ukraine's east

October of 2024 was the most militarily successful month for Russia since July of 2022. After months of sustained pressure, and mostly stagnant front lines, Russian troops have broken through and made significant gains in the Donbas region of Ukraine. According to the New York Times, Russian forces have secured more than 160 square miles there, and are capturing strategic towns along the way.

It seems as though the next goal for Russians in the Donbas is to take the strategic rail town, Pokrovsk, which would seriously inhibit Ukraine's ability to resupply its forces in the region. Encirclement of this strategic city is likely as Ukraine has likely lost Selydove this week, a city which is only about 20 miles south of Pokrovsk.

It is tempting to assume that the West's technological advantage over Russian weaponry will save the day for the kleptocrats in Kiev (Kkyyeeevv?), much like the Israeli technological advantage over the terrorists in Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, and elsewhere. But those Israeli soldiers are very well trained, are drawn from a technologically advanced country, and are immensely patriotic. And most of all, the Israeli battle doctrine rarely calls for set battles on defined fronts, preferring to bring force to bear only after developing good intelligence and preparing the battle space. Ukraine does not have that luxury, or possibly even the ability.

Sadly, the West is quite happy to fight to the last Ukrainian soldier, even when the reality is that Russia will probably hold some of Ukraine regardless of future battles. Absent NATO troops and WWIII, is there any rational scenario that ends with a Russian withdrawal to the status quo ante bellum?

One of the many flaws in American and Western foreign policy is the inability to understand the other side. The military theorist Liddell Hart wrote about understanding "the other side of the hill," which is nothing more than what and why the other side is thinking.

The Russian psyche is not complicated. Why does the West not understand that an expansion of NATO to the borders of Russia is a direct challenge to the Russian bear? Fomenting political revolution in a country on Russia's border is a threat in the minds of the Russian political class and, probably, in the minds of its people. This goes back to at least 2008, when George Bush offered NATO membership to Ukraine and Georgia. The Obama administration had a hand in the 2014 Ukrainian revolution that got rid of Victor Yanukovych in favor of a more western oriented president.

How would America respond if Russia did the same thing in Mexico?

This is not an argument in support of Putin and his thuggish behavior and policies, but it is a recognition that in the absence of a clear strategic necessity for America, perhaps the best policy would be, "a pox on both their houses!"

The 10% vig they are getting off of each pallet really convinced them of that.

Russian distrust of other nations is not unjustified. Near the end of World War I, the US, UK, and Japan sent armed troops to far Northwestern Russia and the Vladivostok area to do (I've forgotten exactly what). Some of those forces fought the local Bolsheviks for a short time. The last troops were not withdrawn till after the Nov. 11, 1911 Armistice in the West.

Sound words from my pastor on voting:

"A correct conscience will recognize that there are certain choices that always involve doing evil, and could never be used as a means to an end... These are always evil, regardless of circumstances... To vote for someone who takes a permissive stand on these issues when there is a morally acceptable alternative would be a grave sin. If there are no alternatives, then we must vote for the lesser of two evils to protect as many innocent lives as possible. We would not commit a sin to vote for someone who is not totally acceptable in order to defeat one who poses an even greater threat to human life and dignity. Voting is a moral act that involves duty and responsibility. Therefore, we must form our conscience properly in the light of the truth of our Faith."

The DPRK was supplying Putin with a shit-ton of artillery rounds. I think there was some agreement between Putin and Kim to bring in several thousand NoRK troops so they could get some "battlefield experience."

As there's been increased tensions at the DMZ between the Korea's this would make getting some warfighting experience for the North Korean Army regulars some bit of sense. Even if it's only for show.

putin fears wide conscription, mainly because if he starts pulling people off the streets and from buses and drafting amputees like zelenskyy does, he loses his popularity and russia may delve into chaos being a huge multinational quagmire.
zelensky has no such fears because his regime is illegal anyway (has been way before him, since 2014 when a legal president was ousted in a violent obama coup), has no elections, and he rules by fear and western money and weapons alone.

If they don’t, then the instant they leave, UNWRA and Hamas set up shop again and they have to reinvade; this has happened twice in Jabaliyah already. It’s either set up an occupation, or fight war without end there, and that is a very bad policy./i]

84 Nice write up CBD.
At the tactical level, we are (or used to be anyway) very good at " Thinking Red." What will the enemy division commander do next? Not sure we were ever very good at that at the strategic level.
Another thought as well. Western, and particularly American high tech weapons require high tech training and thinking. Our weapons have evolved along with our forces to fight the kind of wars we used to be good at. Not the kind of fighting we see in Ukraine. (or the last ten years in Afghanistan). As it is, they require "advisors" to let the Ukes use them.properly, and they are mostly wasted in this use by out dated tactics.

Veteran Father's were the ones who raised the next generation of 'troops'.

But many Veterans, like myself, feel betrayed by our own government. We won all the battles (eventually), but then Politicians made every victory meaningless, as they would declare defeat.

41 years ago this day, I was still helping to clean up the site of the Beirut Marine Barracks bombing... and it is instructive that the Israelis, finally killed architect of that plan LAST MONTH. 'WE' did not get him... they did.

From Korea, to Viet Nam, to the supposed War on Terror... a lack of political will in DC, has squandered battlefield victories.... so... why would we want the next generation to squander their lives?

Pootin did acknowledge they're there, but I think what it is would be comparable to Americans having allies in and around our bases, doing joint training.

I don't think there's any evidence the Norks have been in combat zones, and I believe it's been a common practice for Norks to come to Russia for these types of exercises, for years.

So our lying politicians claiming this is something new, or significant in some way or another, is just our politicians lying. Which you know they're doing when their gums are flapping.

Ditto for Ukraine when it should have made peace earlier. Killing a bunch of its own population and impoverishing themselves for a generation is not likely to produce peace in the future.

167 Off this topic.

I'm not going to be around too much between now and Tuesday.

If people are dooming because of the polls, especially that Iowa poll, please take a breath and think clearly.

We have concrete evidence based on actual ballot returns that 17 million Democrats that voted early in 2020, have not voted in 2024, so far. This compares to a drop of 2 million Republicans.

We also have concrete evidence of expanded voter registrations for Republicans nationwide. In Iowa, for example, the Republicans have increased their registration share in all 99 counties.

For these last-minute polls, that are intended to depress Republican turnout, to be accurate. It requires a significant number of republicans and independents to vote for Kamala.

How likely is it that GOP and Ind are dying to vote for Kamala in significant numbers, when Democrats themselves are not voting?

The Democrat firewall in Nevada is now -45,000.
The Democrat firewall in Pennsylvania is 800,000 less than in 2020.

As long as Republicans vote on Tuesday, they will win.

Go vote, and if someone tries to get you to leave because the line is too long, or the machines are not working, stay in line.

Remember the cluster bomb nonsense? That gave the game away. This is something that is NOT used by the US military, is not used by any other modern military, and was long obsolete and expired, but was stockpiled because it was expensive to safely dispose of.

The military contractors used Ukraine as an excuse to empty their stockpile of obsolete and useless arms while charging the government a massive premium for stuff that they couldn't sell anywhere else, and then charged them a bigger premium to 'replenish' their stockpile with actual modern weapons.

Too many people are enamored of Putin on the basis of the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Same with the Brics group.

We did that with Stalin and how exactly did that work out.

The best possible outcome is for Putin to be peacefully replaced, and allowed to go into retirement, like Khrushchev. Under that scenario, you'd have some hope of getting someone who wasn't completely anti-Western.

The worst possible outcome is for Putin to be overthrown in a coup, because under that scenario, you'd definitely get a anti-Western hardliner from the military or intelligence services.

I have no idea about it but we shouldn't pick whoever the Russians want to prop up as their El Supremo. That always tends to backfire.

Putin may be the best tyrant around that can control the disparate factions there but that itself does not mean he is 'good' by any objective means including religious. And succession in a tyrant's world is never a smooth process. Xi has the same problem. You either make it hereditary like the Kims did (which has its own set of problems), do something like the Romans and Byzantines do--adopting your political heir and puttting them in as El Supremo to be, or you have survival of the fittest and meanest as the sultans did in the Ottoman Empire.

271 260 Our political opponents are not acting at all like folks who have the election in the bag. This ham-fisted Iowa poll is just the latest example…. It’s a bungled effort to depress Trump turnout which is their last hope given EV realities. But they’re so incompetent and desperate they put something out there that has no credibility that’s obviously rigged, which fails and makes them even more desperate…

Other recent examples: Trump wants Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad, he’s gonna put people in camps, fascist!! It’s all so ham-fisted and reeking of desperation

Not really. That 21 percent prime rate basically destroys business investment (and spending on weapons that will promptly be destroyed is NOT investment) because no business can get loans. Inflation, even by Russian admission is about 9-10 percent right now which means cost of living doubles in less than 8 years.

Never assume the grass is greener elsewhere just because the situation in the US sucks right now.

280 As regards polling, I know most here remember 2020 and don't want the same thing. But as I posted in the early lucid hours of the morning, this is not 2020. 2016 influenced what people thought in 2020, which is that the polls are underestimating Trump's vote. But the polls were right, because the Trump voter's profile materialized by then. And those polls showed Trump underperforming Biden. Rassmusen had Trump losing to Biden by 1-3. Now, 2024. If anything more Ds have moved to Trump, and in swing states Ds are not perfoming well where they excel - early GOTV. 2024 is not 2020.

The one other factor that few have paid attention to is the net change in Trump's favorability. In both 2016 and 2020 he was near -20 territory.

Now he's around -6 and the media's effect has mostly worn out, even as they are yelling "Hitler" the loudest. The "ick" factor that traditional Goldwater/McCain voters might have expressed then has most likely lessened, as even Meghan McCain has flirted with Trump acceptance this season.

But, the Byzantines were drained by incessant wars with Persia until both countries exhausted themselves. Those wars necessitated high tax rates stifling ordinary folks from living. Then you had several devastating plagues, poor harvests, Egypt, the granary of Byzantium was lost.

So it was more that all the remaining regular folks wanting to live in that area of the world recognized different management and religion instead of dying for the unpopular Byzantine regime.

First by the stupid color revolution in 2014, next by making Putin an outlaw (while embracing Xi), then provoking Putin via Nato accession for Ukraine in Biden's term. The prowar uniparty faction of conservatives thought it was great too.

NYS requires Licensing for keeping designated Wild Animals. Dude did not have one.

Dude also ran an 'Animal Rescue' and had 300+ Animals on Property.

Dude NOT getting his shit in order killed the squirrel.

Also: Rabies Testing requires a Brain Tissue Sample. They tested the Squirrel and Raccoon in order to make sure the other animals did not need to be quarantined / Tested / Euthanized, no doubt.

Also. I am doubting his 'sanctuary' was licensed at all.

The M60’s are being put through a surprising upgrade program, designed by the Turks, in which they are given new turrets, new electronics, and new composite armor. It is said to make them about 75% as effective as an M1 at a fraction of the cost. Still, Egypt is reported to have over 1100 M1’s, plus about 1200 older models, making them a formidable force. (Far more powerful than Iran, for example).

353 As an elderly retired atty, I have a very high degree of confidence that Trump will not be "jailed immediately" following his sentence hearing in Bragg's Manhattan case.

There are multiple reasons, but getting to the heart of them:

1) Bragg's case is really peculiar and novel. It's based on a time-barred misdemeanor that morphed into 30 felonies.

2) SCOTUS has recently expressed grave doubts about novel prosecutions of a similar sort.

3) If the trial judge ordered Trump jailed immediately, i.e., denied him an appeal bond, either the NY appellate courts or a federal judge would likely reverse that, because of what I said in the second numbered paragraph. Bragg's case is one of the most target-rich environments for an appeal one can imagine. Johnathan Turley has explained this AT LENGTH. Even the DEMs have long said Bragg's case was the weakest & most dubious of all the lawfare cases brought against Trump.

Many of those 'licenses' are in actually a fund raiser for government aka fees.

I am generally a rule of law type but trivial offenses get trivial punishment. Not DEFCON 5 overkill. That breeds contempt of the law, those administering it, and the politicians that push such drivel. That is where the libertarian side comes out---we have too many picayune laws with discretionary enforcement that effectively become anarcho tyranny, wasteful of tax dollars and resources, and results in selective prosecutions of enemies of the state. Show me the man and I will show you the crime is not a philosophy that we should live under.

By those lights, Trump deserved his legal lawfare in NY and other states as did the Jan 6ers for walking in an open door or simply being on the grounds protesting the Steal.

There is no deflection involved. The License is how the State knows that the animal is innoculated.

I guarantee that you have probably committed felonies if as minor as copying a cd to a mp3 or violating license regulations as to use of software, copying a vhs to a dvd, etc.

Should you be bankrupted by the music industry for it?

That is the ridiculousness of your position--laws have to be enforced proportion to the degree of the offense. Might want to read Beccaria which ignored today influenced our Founding Fathers to a great extent when writing the Constitution and was the bedrock of most of the common law regarding crimes and punishment in the early American republic. Became ignored as one more casualty of slavery's warpage of Constitutional norms.

416 The hegemonic American foreign policy establishment, which controls the Euro-NATO establishment, has been co-opted by the Davos/WEF globalist elites who use anarchy, chaos, and war to loot national treasuries. The top tier of all of these outfits are getting rich funneling taxpayer dollars into their pockets.

If they couldn't destabilize Russia so they could loot the entire country of its natural resources, their Plan B was destroy Ukraine while siphoning off foreign military aid through corruption and kickbacks, and will do more when it comes time to "rebuild" Ukraine.

418 That is a deflection, makes the assumption that the animal was not properly vaccinated. Which she always was.
Posted by: Mike Hammer

Yep. People in general are not going to get or keep a mad dog. Registration is simply instrumental as a way to avoid that for 'public safety' but a mere requirement that animals be vaccinated is a bit kinder and not requiring them to be killed because of the lack of a strip of paper is absurd.

Public health laws, as we have seen in a time of Covid, often become an abuse of liberty when employed by the states. Walz was infamous for his diktat that people stay indoors and he authorized police shooting paintballs at people standing on their own porches.

Russia has nukes and that is the only reason they are even remotely a world power. This war has done much more than impoverish both Russia and Ukraine, it has accelerated the speed by which neither will exist in present form. The first eastern European Country who figures out how to consolidate a regional power base and attract people to it - while starting to have babies again - will in the next 50 years control most of this region. Right now Poland and Hungry are leading that race, if it can be achieved at all by anyone.

DMCA makes no distinction between copying for your self (or even for a private showing) and you would have to rely upon the thin reed of fair usage in court as a justification defense.

Usually statute trumps common law but fair use has some constitutional meanings which are vague.

Now, whoever can choose to enforce that law on a purely discretionary basis and even if they end up losing, you get the process as punishment without much recourse.

That is why you get this type of overkill response--because they can do it.

My crystal ball is cracked. I can tell you what happened in similar situations in the past and that would tend to agree with you. However, our elites in the West appear suicidal in there lust for power and that is something we haven't really grappled with--nuclear or biological wars for fun and pleasure of the elites.

Russia is winning the war, it was always eventually going to end that way - just too many people in Russia vs Ukraine. But their economy is not booming, their currency is not strong, and if Harris wins, and the world falls into recession, as it is looking, the oil prices will drop and Russia's economy will go from meh, to ashes pretty quickly.

Digital but even before then, it was RIAA's position and that of the MPAA that owning a physical copy of the work did not give you ownership of that underlying work (only the physical media). So no copying. Under common law, federal courts were all over the place over what was fair use and whether copying counted including vhs copying of content on TV for viewing later.

Was not enforced criminally because of potential for backfire politically due to the numbers of people that were happily ignoring the law--not for legal reasons.

That is what led to the draconian punishments of the DMCA and the move by industry to digital media. It has a clearly defined statutory law to punish you rather than the vaguer position of the law pre DMCA.

Fair statement. What I wonder about is the long term effect of having a bunch of hardened warriors that are not ethnic Russians dispersed back into the hinterland regions of Russia. Russia has made an effort to avoid recruiting ethnic Russians from the heart of their Leningrad, Moscow, etc urban areas. They have pushed huge quotas on places like Chechinya. Long term it may be like the US funding the mujadeen to fight in Afghanistan.

Their version of Hjalmar Schacht. Did not prevent Germany from going into Depression when the rest of the world did. You can rob Peter to pay Paul for awhile but inevitably an economy reverts back to its basic line. Both the ruble and the price of oil are declining to below what is necessary to finance the Russian state normally, let alone during a time of war.

Modern wars, by and large do not benefit the economy anymore than Keyne's digging a ditch and filling it in does. War is, in fact, the ultimate expression of Keynesian economics but has a lot of undesirable effects namely on investment (and no, weapon systems are not investments anymore than Green Nude Eel social spending was).

You never see what the money blown on war could have been spent on and how much society loses economically by wars through loss of capital and skilled manpower, let alone socially.

Yes it is, but not in the way you imagine. There is a retreat you might call it into nationalistic imperative worldview. What is evolving is an American sector, and the rest of the world sector. The American sector will look alot like what it does now, except a bit more expensive than before. Much better than the rest of the world. Trump win will just make it more obvious. Russia-Ukraine will cease to exist as they have been known 50 years from now - they are both in demographic collapse and the war will just accelerate that collapse. They are probably beyond the ability to repopulate with the number of young men they have left.

433 Remember, if Kamala Harris wins this election, it will be because of the women. Even if your wife or girlfriend votes for Trump, she knows women who voted for the Vice-President Harris and is most likely afraid to tell her friends that they are making the worst mistakes of their lives, but also their children's and grandchildren's lives. Kamala Harris will resign our next generations to poverty and squalor.

Fair as well. Putin was forced by necessity to get the numbers he needed to maintain the force to secure the gains in SE Ukraine, otherwise the western military aid would have eventually turned the tide. Russia's strength was always numbers, I just think Putin didn't think he would have to tap in that deep. A post war Russia will be changed by this in just the manner you suggest. Forecasting what that future becomes is impossible.

440 You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, "There is a price we will not pay." "There is a point beyond which they must not advance." And this - this is the meaning in the phrase of Barry Goldwater's "peace through strength." Winston Churchill said, "The destiny of man is not measured by material computations. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we're spirits - not animals." And he said, "There's something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty."
