Godward has a wonderful ability to capture femininity, especially young women. This pose is classic. The gentle curves of the model, slightly veiled, are a contrast with the harder straight lines of the marble and architecture and the masculine support pillars. The skin tones are natural and pleasing. It's also a statement on how women enjoy their young figures. Very effective.
It says a lot that these neo-classical style paintings fell out of favor with modern standards going into the 20th century. God forbid that attractive, pleasant paintings with nostalgic appeal should be preferred over the harsh angles and colors of modern art. Thanks, CBD. A lovely painting to end the week with. I read the Dutch version of the story (translated in to english, to be clear) this morning and watched some videos. It was, as you may guess, Jews verse Arabs. Allegedly, it was set off by Jews whistling and screaming about killing Arabs during the moment of silence for the people who died in flooding in spain. Or at least, that's the earliest video. Hard to say. Anyways, lots of flag stealing / screaming about allah and god and whatnot was going on on both sides. Then the Arabs escalated pretty swiftly to trying to run Jews over with their cars. And the Dutch were kind of standing around like "uhhhh". Diversity is their strength though. Posted by: andycanuck (hovnC) at November 08, 2024 10:29 AM (hovnC) The easiest explanation is that in 2020, some states sent out ballots to every registered voter. Which is okay in theory I suppose, but not when you don't have a good, clean dataset of voters. So some high turn over apartment buildings got hundreds and hundreds of ballots for people who hadn't lived there in years. So lots of extra ballots floating around out there. Posted by: runner at November 08, 2024 10:34 AM (V13WU) ===== Nevada sends out ballots to every eligible resident in the state, and Trump's winning it. They've had it for a few cycles, and the GOP won the governorship in 2022. Mail in isn't the auto-Democrat dynasty creator people fear. It's the unclear voter rolls in combination with that which makes that easy. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, finding suspense, madness, and humanity with Michael Powell at November 08, 2024 10:35 AM (GBKbO) Tell that to CO and OR. ...although mail-in ballots and/or unclear (nice word choice btw ) voter rolls and/or no ID required and so on generally occur with corrupt as fck D (birm) Secretaries of State. Posted by: Helena Handbasket at November 08, 2024 10:41 AM (zlGo9) 438
Here in Michigan, our illustrious secretary Of state got sued and lost over eight times by the RNC and the Michigan GOP over the stupid stuff she was doing and direct conflict with state law for the election. She lost a couple of those lawsuits the week before November 5. Conservatives need to send a great big thank you to Laura Trump and nto Michael Wheatley for overseeing and planning ahead for the type of cheating that was going to go on if 2020 repeated itself. They have been on this since Trump announced he was running again. once Ronna McDaniel was out the entire focus of the RNC completely changed.

Kamala lost because of the last 4 years.
The fact that she spent half her campaign in hiding. Her refusal to embrace new media like Trump did (thank you Barron the Young). Her embrace of celebrity despite the massive cultural shift of the last four years away from traditional media (most likely thank you to Obama apparatchiks who last ran a campaign 12 years ago). The fact that her campaign messaging was nonsensical. You cannot equally be a consequential figure in the administration while having no power but having a finger in every decision made over the last four years while also pledging to fix everything you fucked up over the last four years. Testimony from the Amsterdam pogrom last night, via @b4l4g4n: "We asked for help from business owners in the area but they completely ignored us. When I tried to escape in a taxi, the driver took me out by force and even cooperated with the attackers in trying to locate me.' Also, Israelis claimed that stun grenades were thrown at apartments where they lived. "The hotel owner refused to give us shelter. Only thanks to a group of young Dutch people who intervened and called the police did we manage to escape." Horrifying evidence also about Israelis who hid in attics in the city. That would suggest a level of introspection and foresight that we've not seen any evidence of. Posted by: Oddbob ========= Most of the cheat came from absentee ballots sent out to non-existent voters. Dirty voter rolls are created prior to the election by the constant voter registration runs that the Dems do using fly by night organizations that disappear and reappear under new names with the same people. This also keeps the cheat army paid when no elections are around. Other dirty tricks are used to insert illegal characters, distort fields in the database, and perhaps even algorithms that are all designed to hide these fake registrations mailed out. Harder in voter id states (which Trump did not lose a single one) because it requires then faking DMV records. Direct insertion was an emergency method used late for the drop and roll but very dangerous because of lack of paper trail (or electronic images such as in GA) to support existence of those votes. That necessitated a massive coverup post election in the swing states of 2020. Posted by: whig at November 08, 2024 10:58 AM (ctrM5) 535
Kamala lost because she was up against Trump, who successfully defined her and had a spine in doing it. Similar to Hillary.

Fawcett had a serious intestinal defect as a child needing surgery to correct and had a large scar across her abdomen as a result. It’s why she chose the famous red one piece suit for the poster shoot because she was self conscious of her scar. She was diagnosed with anal cancer, which could have been cured with surgery and short term chemo which has a high success rate. But she chose alternative treatment, refusing chemotherapy because her hair would fall out and she ended up in chemotherapy way past the curable stage. No one knows if her intestinal defect predisposed her to cancer but it’s possible.

The DEM party has moved further LEFT, toward Sanders & AOC, after each of the last few elections-- "moderate" DEMs (by DEM standards) retire. Their replacements are more POC-er; more LGBTQ; and the whole woke mess.
You can see this working out in the elevation of Hakeem Jeffries & Jamie Raskin through the DEM leadership ranks. I don't expect this to change in the near future, i.e., the next couple of election cycles. The primary defeats of 5-alarm Bowman & Cora ("St. Louis' Sorrow") Bush do NOT signify a counter-trend, imo. Just look at any crowd at a big DEM rally-- it's a freak show. True, and I wonder how many of those missing votes were because of poor ballot harvesting due to in fighting between the Harris and Biden teams.
Posted by: Nigel West Dickens ===== It was many of those people never existed nor actually voted in 2020. It was a fraudulent election based on fake people that do not exist or if they did--they are dead, moved out of state, an illegal voter (foreign, felon,etc.). The Dem fake voter registration program is always running throughout the election cycle paid for by dark money from big donors. Those same people then become the ballot harvesters of the non existent voters and their very real actual ballots mailed to homeless centers, shopping malls, factories, vacant lots, etc. but intercepted and filled out by these harvesters. Then they are counted in urban areas by corrupt election officials. In person election fraud is very rare (usually a person voting in two states, voting in the name of a passed away parent or some such). Voter id makes it even riskier. But grabbing a bunch of ballots from the postman (which are often junior grade expendables not full USPS workers) and filling them out, dropping them in a drop box is simple.
