The shameless lying by leftist media has really gotten comical - some site is claiming "Vance embarrassed in terrible interview with Rogan" or some such nonsense. They're banking on being able to say that to people who never bothered to actually watch it. But it will probably backfire by getting at least a few people to look it up to see how it went, and who will then say "wait, the two of them got along great!"

Note that Vance points out something obvious that needs to be discussed: Wealthy, upwardly mobile white families have a harder and harder time gaming the system to give their kids advantages, like entry into an elite college.

My alma mater needed a new president, and the search committee explained that they were very, very ashamed that all the prior presidents were straight white males, and indicated that they were going to do something about that.

It really was a great interview, Vance does very well in these settings.
When Trump picked Vance, I was lukewarm because Ohio was a done deal and it was just didn't seem to bring a new voter base. But Vance is hands down the best pick Trump has ever made in his political career.
I hope he reaches a lot of new voters.

One of the many things I am going to thoroughly enjoy should Trump win is finally crushing Big Pharma and Big Food. They have both become nothing but inbred parts of a corrupt system that alleges it serves the people. The FDA, HHS and other government entities need a complete reform. We are more unhealthy, sick and yes, likely to die because of them.

Reagan beat the USSR, brought down inflation, and brought down taxes which were absurdly high. The first is the one that's easiest to forget. Under Carter, we were in clear retreat.
Now, of course we didn't follow through. But that part wasn't conservatives. It was Bushes. After Ronnie left, we didn't get another Presidential nominee until Trump.
And Trump himself is far from an ideal conservative. But I am inclined to believe that what is needed is someone who will win SOMEWHERE. Since we cannot win everywhere. But Bush-Dole-Bush-McCain-Romney was just nominating what we don't want.

Liberal are trying to claim that Rogan's pushing back against what Vance said about pro-life positions-- something about at the end of the day it's a guy telling a woman what to do with her body and Rogan thinks that's wrong-- was a Mike drop and he got Vance. Listening to it, it's hardly that at all. Was a respectful convo, two guys disagreeing sometimes but having a good, deep convo on issues that matter.

I'm not sure about the amnesty and Blue CA, but I've been tired of the mindless Reagan worship from the GOPe for ages now. In my opinion, he got two absolutely huge things right: keeping Volcker as head of the Fed when everyone else wanted him gone, and spending the USSR into oblivion without a shot being fired. Those two things alone get him on Mt. Rushmore. Other than that, however, he was a disaster. Amnesty, O'Connor, not bombing Iran (just because!), not destroying Hez after Beirut bombing have all been things that we're paying for even now. It's time to move on from the guy, to be honest. Most of the RWR people are now NeverTrumpers, and the Reagan Foundation is infested with RINOs. Enough.

One of the many things I am going to thoroughly enjoy should Trump win is finally crushing Big Pharma and Big Food. They have both become nothing but inbred parts of a corrupt system that alleges it serves the people. The FDA, HHS and other government entities need a complete reform. It's like the adoption of the cis label. You don't really need labels for normal. But, the left created one and forced it upon the culture because giving normal behavior a label is to draw attention to it in ways that undermine the sense of normalcy.

It is interesting that the Democrats literally could not find anything to pin on Vance. They tried weird but then they were the ones with the weird candidate in Walz. His entire life was laid out in his book, mistakes as well as triumphs.
This new administration will be historic. Just need to get them there before something catastrophic happens due to the complete absence of anyone actually governing the country.

My dad wore a suit to work every day of his professional life. Even when he was teased about not having to do it. "Ron, you're around engineers all day. Who are you trying to impress?" And he never succumbed to it/ Always treated his own position and the company with respect.
Good for JD. He'd probably have been just fine if he showed up in jeans -- whether for comfort or to "fit in." But he didn't. He showed respect and expected it in return. Good on ya, JD.

Same. RFRA was a red-flag, but I dismissed it when Trump picked him. Picked it back up when Trump told the story of Pence's wife looking like she wanted to be anywhere else but the NY Hilton Hotel the night that Trump won in 2016. He could tell that she couldn't stand him.
Looking back, I'm glad that the GOP lost in 2008 and 2012 when Obama beat McCain and Romney. Either of them would have killed MAGA before it had a chance to take root. Jettisoning Pence in 2020 had the same effect for me.
I don't see an upside for us losing 2024, however.

I think almost all politicians use a template when formulating their answers to questions, and their answers are only as good as the template. Vance strikes me as someone who learned to think and articulate without the template, and therefore sounds much clearer and more sensible than other pols.

Every day I feel a hint of shame over how much I didn't want Vance to be the VP pick this summer. It was based solely on how little I knew about him. I assumed he was a shameless politician, who was really a Democrat that only went GOP to win an election, etc.
I am so happy I was wrong.
Vance is dynamite, and if Trump wins on Tuesday it will cement Vance as the future of the party, cement him as the future leader of the party (and, considering his young age, that is huge), and cement MAGA as the future blueprint of the party.
We are no longer the war mongering, big business party. We are the party of the people. Averse to war, while also supporting a strong military, listening to people and pushing for policy that is good for everyone.
The old GOP is dying and they're not being replaced by more of the same.

I would love to see in a 2nd Trump administration, RFK Jr., target big Pharma and promote bill to stop their advertising on television. Like cigarettes, all of the "medicines" they are advertising have some pretty bad side effects and possible stroke, heart attacks, blood clots, and death. New Zealand and the US are the only countries that allow drugs to be advertised on TV.

No. We will be dealing with the fallout from the last 4 years for decades to come. I'd rather Trump had won (he did). If he had, he would have had a lot of validation and a mandate, and no f***s to give.

The mental institution claim is one hate to see Vance take, because it's a dirty tricks claim from 60 years ago that wasn't true. Edmund Brown's government (Jerry Brown's father) passed the bill about mental institutions, and every medical organization of the time supported it. When Reagan took office as Governor, his government was tasked with implementing what was a done deal with no opposition anywhere. So to blame doing that on him is just wrong.

I've said this before - I fully understand why Trump would want to serve until 2028. However, if his team can prove that they will fully take on the FedGov in the first two years, I think he should step down from the Oval and enjoy his remaining days doing rallies, playing golf and hanging at one of his residences with his family. He'll be a lame duck anyway and any signal that Vance could be POTUS for ten years will send the message that the pressure will not let up. I don't want the GOPe and the Deep State to wait him out.

Like Ike or Nixon, he did some good things and some very bad things and blaming it on the Dem House (1981-1989) or the GOP Senate (1981-1987) is really not that useful.

There's a famous study and book by David Rosenhan. The book was called "On Being Sane in Insane Places." I think almost all politicians use a template when formulating their answers to questions, and their answers are only as good as the template. Vance strikes me as someone who learned to think and articulate without the template, and therefore sounds much clearer and more sensible than other pols.

I remember lying in bed in mid-Nov, praying to God, asking "why?" over and over. I didn't get why He would let Trump win in 2016 only to yank it away in 2020.
I should have been patient. I should have trusted Him.
If Trump wins next week, and I believe(!) he will, the MAGA vision for America will be far better off than if he'd won in 2020. If there hadn't been a steal, we'd be looking at Mike Pence vs someone like Shapiro or Whitmer, and probably getting a loss because Pence is a charisma vacuum that most people knew, even then, was not a true MAGA guy. He would have lost the rust belt and carried the GOP back to its loser Romney ways.

Volcker fought inflation, but another problem with Reagan was his "voodoo economics", which was the start of deficit spending. Reagan himself said it was one of his failures, to build up so much debt (probably something like $3B in 80's dollars, but deficit spending never ended).

The mental institution claim is one hate to see Vance take, because it's a dirty tricks claim from 60 years ago that wasn't true. Edmund Brown's government (Jerry Brown's father) passed the bill about mental institutions, and every medical organization of the time supported it. When Reagan took office as Governor, his government was tasked with implementing what was a done deal with no opposition anywhere. So to blame doing that on him is just wrong.

About Great Britain's McD's fries, I didn't know that. Couple it with the dye poisons put in US breakfast cereals that are different from the ingredients companies like Kellogg's put in the same cereals overseas and it sure seems like the health of the American consumer doesn't mean squat.

In addition, lots of pols (not all) just aren't very bright. We assume they adopt carefully thought out positions after weighing all the facts, but I think that's actually quite rare.

Basically, the GOP early vote isn't any more remarkable than it was in 2020, but the Dem early vote is way way down, meaning they need a big election day turnout to make up the gap, and the Dems don't have the apparatus set up to make election day turnout happen, whereas the GOP is all about election day turnout, so their early vote numbers are just gravy on top.

That's why I listen to Rogan. he's annoying at times, and not the smartest guy in the world, but he has genuine conversations with interesting people. Which is a MUCH better format (if the goal is to educate and entertain) than the traditional media, where everything is in short segments and it's all about the gotcha questions or soft / easy questions, depending on the narrative of the day.
Let people have a 3 hour unscripted convo with a random guy who used to host a show about eating donkey balls. Much more informative, and much easier for viewers to sniff out bullshit.

OT-I forget which kind poster suggested that I have a maple donut for an ecstatic culinary experience, but on the way home from seeing a congregation member there was a local bakery which advertised maple bacon donuts on a sign outside their place. I stopped and got a few for the family. I just had a bte of one, and it was delicious. The bacon combined with the maple sugar frosting made it better, I think, than just a maple donut would be.

I worked with a guy that drove one of those for the city. Probably 6' 3", 240lbs. His biggest complaint wasn't working with trash, it was trying to get in and out of that truck (which he had to do often). And it was the reason he quit after a month.

I worked with a guy that drove one of those for the city. Probably 6' 3", 240lbs. His biggest complaint wasn't working with trash, it was trying to get in and out of that truck (which he had to do often). And it was the reason he quit after a month.

225 OT-I forget which kind poster suggested that I have a maple donut for an ecstatic culinary experience, but on the way home from seeing a congregation member there was a local bakery which advertised maple bacon donuts on a sign outside their place. I stopped and got a few for the family. I just had a bte of one, and it was delicious. The bacon combined with the maple sugar frosting made it better, I think, than just a maple donut would be.

I think it's very possible that we get an election more like 1968, which, when you look at the map and the final numbers, looked like a Nixon landslide, but in reality was a nail-biter, with him winning a bunch of states by razor thin margins. They almost all broke in one direction though (except PA, go figure), becuase the issues of the election were national, not regional.

I think there's a very good chance the the narrative, in retrospect, of the 24 election is that Biden never had a chance because of bad luck during his presidency, the Trump assassination attempt sealed the deal, and Kamala was a well-meaning effort to salvage down-ballot races that, unfortunately, couldn't overcome the fundamentals.

The factor I've seen used most frequently is bucketing Republican and Democrat counties into groups and making direct comparisons there.
And, registration and early voting numbers do seem to indicate that Republicans are outpacing Democrats in rurals over Dane County's numbers.

I'm still not on the Reagan Train as much as I was when I voted for the guy in '84, but your points are worth keeping in mind when assessing the guy.
You have to go based on available info at the time. Reagan was fine. They had a theory and they ran with it. Vance's point, IMO, was that, with the benefit of 40 years hindsight, we can now see that some of those decisions were bad. The issue isn't so much that Reagan went with them as that modern politicians are unwilling to leave them.

Yes, but the difference is that a politician uses the template in everyday life, just so he doesn't have to think that much during the endless town halls, media interviews, etc. J.D. clearly knows how to step outside that trap. In addition, lots of pols (not all) just aren't very bright. We assume they adopt carefully thought out positions after weighing all the facts, but I think that's actually quite rare.

I don't know. If the race is effectively unchanged from the debate with all the craziness we've had since, genuine race-changing craziness (garbage doesn't even merit a top 15 mention, in my opinion), you've got a host of reasons to choose from.
Painting Biden and Kamala as good natured, hard working, and just unlucky seems like the way to go for narrative layers.
The halls of the DNC will be decked with the blood of the uninnocent, but the media narrative forming over the ensuing years will probably trend more towards hagiography of every Democrat involved.

I worked with a guy that drove one of those for the city. Probably 6' 3", 240lbs. His biggest complaint wasn't working with trash, it was trying to get in and out of that truck (which he had to do often). And it was the reason he quit after a month.

We know the conditions are vastly different this time, and there are many more people paying attention, to avoid making the same mistakes as last time.
However... it's the unknown unknowns that are worrisome. Did they come up with a new way, that hasn't been anticipated, and won't be defended against.
I think that's the only way it works, and if they try to use the 2020 or 2022 methods, they will fail.

They almost all broke in one direction though (except PA, go figure), becuase the issues of the election were national, not regional.

Well, in WI, a state without party registration, one can only impute what's going on with other factors.
The factor I've seen used most frequently is bucketing Republican and Democrat counties into groups and making direct comparisons there.
And, registration and early voting numbers do seem to indicate that Republicans are outpacing Democrats in rurals over Dane County's numbers.
So, fingers crossed!

For Dane, turnout in 2020 was something like 90% so how do you improve on that...very hard. For Milwaukee, they just may not show up rather than vote for a Republican. That works for Trump as well.
On the negative side, the Dem's are pushing abortion issues in every ad and let me tell you, there's a lot of them. Oh, and this for every level of office right down to dog catcher.

Anecdotal, but persuasive - I live in NOVA and pay attention to things like Ukraine flags and bumper stickers. I watched the Ukraine flags disappear rapidly several years ago. As to bumper stickers, I've seen less than a dozen Harris stickers on bumpers. I assume the driver is a professional apparatchik and is required to wave the flag to show allegiance to their paycheck. All of this reminds me of Hillary. I used to summer in the Finger Lakes and paid attention to Skaneateles swells. Hillary and Bill were worshipped by Skaneateles when she ran for Senate. By the time she was running for Prez you couldn't find a Hillary bumper stickers. What was amazing was the number of Confederate Flags everywhere. These were not the swells flying them but they clearly understood their meaning. Swells seldom apologize but they do trim their sails in stormy weathe

Baby steps. Blacks used to be pro Republican before FDR with LBJ sealing the deal. For black males, politics is downstream from their culture and their culture is much more matriarchal since the New Deal.

Reminds me of The Wire, when Bunny Colvin has his cops round up all the corner boys to tell them that they can only sell drugs in Hamsterdam. All of the kids are screwing around, talking smack to Bunny, fighting in the crowd and such. He can't get a word in edgewise... until the most feared female teacher grabs the mic and tells them to settle down.

What changed is women being totally in charge in schools. Back in the day when there were male teachers and admins you could pull kids in line when they got unruly. Leftist women only know how to teach women, by peer group pressure. That's why they started drugging the kids in schools.
I'm glad this is getting mainstream traction; I've been of this belief for years and I know others here have too

When deinstitutionalization happened, the communities were supposed to get money and resources which didn't happen, so a lot of the patients wound up in jail instead. when they started turning them "free" from jail they on the street, where they are today, dying while using welfare monies.

I listened to the whole interview, because I didn’t know Vance very well. I do like him and his intelligence and articulation. But he is only 40. He probably doesn’t have as much historical knowledge as I’d like – I bet he didn’t get a whole lot of Rush Limbaugh education, which would have been extremely useful. But I bet he will be a great conservative voice and leader over time… if he doesn’t let power corrupt him.
