The Rosette Nebula
Also called "the Skull Nebula"

Cute ground-nesting birds.

Symbiotic relationship.

Frolicking into the weekend.

Cuddle puddle.

Long thread claim to show the "Real size" of various big animals. I think in a bunch of cases, we're seeing some perspective shenanigans. But some of the pics and video seem legit. The wolf near the end of the video does look very big compared to the size of the highway lanes it's crossing.

This turtle is innocent! Innocent I say! (Though I should admit, he was caught listening to Kenny Loggins/Michael McDonald collaborations.)

Teaching a rescue seal pup that fish tastes good and you should eat it.

Seal joins the crew.

Bear family crossing the road.

Poseidon's boys.

Back in the 1980s there was an effort to re-introduce moose into Michigan's Upper Peninsula. They were Canadian moose.

Anyhow, I was at the big release into the wild ceremony and the DNR set up a press pit *in front* of the crate for the moose, so that when they came out, the moose would be photographed as they ran off into the wild.

Except that flash photography scared the moose, who exited the crate and turn back into the parking lot, trampling random vehicles.

After that the press pit went away and everyone had to be super-silent with no flash photography.

The big problem with moose is that they are just about the right height to get kneecapped and the bulk comes through the windshield. Deer, on the other hand, are shorter and will decorate the grill. Horses are in between.

Fun fact. When I lived in NH I had a portable air horn. The moose used to show up and graze outside my house. Their front legs are longer than the rear, so they have to get down on the joint a bit to eat. A solid air horn blast will scare the ever living sh*t out of them and cause them to lose their balance.

285 Moose story-
Was flying a big fire up by Hamilton, MT and one of the Sikorsky Sky-Crane pilots calls me on the radio and says come over to dip site Delta and check this out. Was a giant Bull Moose lounging under some trees at his favorite water hole and he would charge the Sky-Crane every time he went in to set the snorkel in the water. Sky-Crane fills up 2,400 gal, lifts off. Moose goes back to lounging until it come back and he charges again. Did it over and over all afternoon. Never gave up his territory. A Sky-Crane in Hover is an incredible racket with 120 mph outflow wind and never fazed the moose at all. He wanted to kill it.

Anyway, she was asked about her "impact" on young males in the 80s and she said she appreciated it. She said that sometimes when she meets men of a certain age she can tell by the look in their eyes that they probably hit the bunk thinking of her. She said something to the effect of being flattered and glad to help.

323 On the salience of 'BORTION 'BORTION 'BORTION on the left, the seemingly singlemindedness of pro-abortion voters, and why female voters on the left are the most strident and motivated - there is a reason, and it's not a good one.

We may consider that the majority of abortions occur among the pro-choice women - I believe the actual figure is something like 90%. The claimed number of women who have had abortions is around 15%, but taking the chances per-year of first abortions and integrating over time gives a notably higher percentage.

Voter turnout is higher the older you are, the inverse of fertility, and you have to get pregnant in order to have an abortion.

Put all that together and you have a very significant chunk of women who are virulently pro-abortion because to change their mind or admit the possibility that they might be wrong would mean having to come to grips with the fact that they, personally, killed a baby.

They are - needless to say - not really eager to do that.

In Michigan medical doctors said that if abortion wasn't 100 percent legal, women would die of miscarriages. Major health systems announced they would shut down their OB-GYN clinics.

Speaking of nebula, I was reading something interesting. The sun, o' Sol, may have been born out of a Wolf-Rayet (WR) star nebula.

It's something about an isotope of aluminum, Al-26 that was present in high abundance in early solar system material.

Al-26 is sort of rare to produce, and WR stars can form it.

Voyagers status:
https://tinyurl.com/2422od4r

Mission elapsed time 41 years and nearly 2 months.

They've got some trajectory/orbital animations there showing the trajectories, but it can be really confusing.

If you turn the solar system view on its side so you're looking at the ecliptic edge-on, you'll see how far out of plane both are. Voyager 1 went way north, and Voyager-2 went south.

That had something to do with the final maneuvers. Voyager-2 did a flyby of Neptune's moon Triton. Voyager-1 did the same with Titan at Saturn. They gave them a southward trajectory to get "under" both moons to get better data from both moons.
