Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress - $5,000. Tux rental - $100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.
New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time. Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars.
You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Two pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
Everything on your face stays its original colour. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck. You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes - one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look.
You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache... You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes. No wonder men are happier!

You need moar humor? The Presidential election of 2024 was too close to call. Neither Donald Trump nor Harris had enough votes to win. There was much talk about ballot recounting, court challenges, etc., but it was decided that there should be an ice fishing contest between the two candidates to determine the winner. A week-long ice fishing competition seemed to be a sportsmanlike way to settle things, and the candidate that caught the most fish at the end of the week would win the election. After much back-and-forth discussion, it was decided that the contest would take place on a remote frozen lake in northern Wisconsin. There were to be no observers present, and both politicians were to be sent out separately on this isolated lake and return at 5 P.M. with their catch for the day to be counted and verified by a team of neutral parties. At the end of the first day, Trump returned to the starting line, and he had 10 fish. Soon, Harris returned and had no fish. Well, everyone assumed she was just having a bad day or something and hopefully, she would catch up the next day. At the end of the 2nd day Trump came in with 20 fish and Harris came in again with none. That evening, the Democrats got together secretly and said to Harris, we think Trump is a low-life, cheatin' son-of-a-gun. Tomorrow, don't even bother fishing. Just spy on him and see just how he is cheating. The next night (after Trump returns with 50 fish), the Democrats got together for the report of how the Republicans were cheating. During the change back to Standard Time, in local time, there is an ambiguous time period. There will be two 1 - 2AM periods this morning. I don't know how this handled for legal events like births and deaths, without some special provision.
For example, here, we'll have a 1:30AM EDT (05:30 Zulu) and a 1:30AM EST (06:30 Zulu).
If you have some form which only allows for local time, you've got to resolve that somehow.

Reports are that following their unannounced raid of a home in Chemung County, the DEC Agents have gone ahead and unnecessarily killed their animals. The pet owner has not been afforded due process, and now his pets are dead.
This action comes today as reports have emerged of an illegal immigrant raping a five-year-old on Long Island. This demonstrates the Hochul Administration's deranged level of misguided priorities. In New York State, we have sanctuaries for illegal immigrants while innocent pets are killed.
I demand answers and will push until the administration comes clean.

A few years ago, I lost my passport two days before a big, international trip. Getting a new passport expedited would cost hundreds of dollars. And I wasn’t sure if it would even arrive in time.
You can imagine how stressed I was. The last time I saw my passport was on my bed. I turned my room upside down to try and find it, to no avail.
It's always in the last place you look. Why would you continue looking in other places when you've already found it, duh?

Most systems now have this resolved. Run the clocks in UTC, and all timestamps should be in UTC for everything, filesystem, etc.
There is no ambiguity there. The only time local time rules are used is to display those times to the user. Most things run like that, and should, but there's still a lot of problems with this in various systems.

Several stories reference the squirrel biting one of the cops. It could be that petty.
Or it could be because squirrel guy was disrespecting DEC's authority. If NYS had a representative form of government it would be good to see the governor of the state called to answer why she is wasting resources like this to kill pets

Boarded up the window today that the grouse committed suicide (broke outer pane), got a staircase built for a permanent stand (just turned 29, so ladders are getting iffy), sat in ladder stand for a couple hours. I always thought raccoons were smart critters. But driving through Arkansas and Missouri, there were literally hundreds of road-killed raccoons along the roadsides, often in twos or threes. Mostly full-grown, too.

Well, outwardly i look calm like a duckling, but underneath I am furiously paddling to keep myself from going bonkers 🤣🤣🤣 MD Anderson has been Johnny on the Spot, though - I am going to see a surgical oncologist at UT Southwestern in Dallas on Monday, then on Tuesday we are driving down to Houston. I have an initial appointment at MDA on Wednesday, followed by a radiology appointment and labs on Friday. Then on the 11th I will be getting a liver biopsy to determine what we are dealing with.
I assume we will stay in Houston at least until we get the results of that biopsy. I have a feeling I may be in Houston for a while, which is going to be logistically interesting....

I think a lot of jurisdictions have a ban on keeping wild animals as pets, for reasons of disease control and also for not getting "wild" animals acclimated to humans so that they become a nuisance. Well, there's a reason such laws are on the books, but they should only ever be enforced when there is an instance of wild "pets" causing harm to humans or property, and becoming a legal nuisance thereby. Otherwise, it's a self-limiting "problem". The squirrel would have gotten old and died, same as the raccoon.

Even that can be a problem. I saw a study once that once cities set up SWAT teams, they would get used for things like lower-level arrests, because there really aren't enough incidents that actually require a SWAT team to keep them fully employed.

I'm convinced most of it is people running them over on purpose, but in all fairness, the roads are windy and they're not banked in the more rural areas, so most people don't swerve for wildlife, because the odds of rolling are high.
I almost killed my mom and I, swerving to miss a mama Guinea and her chick's. There is no way I could not try to avoid a critter. It's strictly reflex. GOP EV turnout is slightly above 2020 levels, and is composed largely of low propensity voters.
Dem EV is catastrophically down vs 2020.
conclusion: polls are a mess but actual data says GOP is on pace for a decisive win. That's assuming GOP votes on election day as usual (party energy is sky high so that's a given).
As for Dems, there's no evidence to think the reason Dems aren't early voting is because they're waiting for Tuesday. They've been the early vote party from the jump. They have no apparatus as a party to turnout voters on election day. Everything they do is about getting people to the polls as early (and often) as possible.
Fact is, the Kamala joy train has stalled out. Their voters are not motivated, and not enthused, at least not to the degree they were in 2020, based on the numbers and raw data.
basically, Dems are turning out like it's a midterm.
the GOP is turning out like it's a life or death presidential election.

MD Anderson has a LOT of that kind of stuff. I grew up in the area, so I have lots of friends who have offered to help out. Our main problem is that our youngest daughter has Down syndrome, so we have to be sure that she is being watched while I am seeing doctors. Fortunately, my BFF and Paul's cousin live close enough to Houston to be able to help out with that.
Once we know what the plan is, we should be able to figure out a schedule. Right now, everything is still so new

I reunited with my sister yesterday (or actually first at my other older sister's funeral), and she has had lymphoma cancer (which I participated in with her a decade ago), but since then a stroke, and mastectomy. Her (both are radical leftists) Jewish husband had a couple strokes, and brain cancer, that is now down to the inoperable part.
I didn't bring up the Covid fake vax, but I gotta think that could be a big part of their health problems. Not to mention the high carb perverted food pyramid. Life is short ... live long and prosper ... or live longer without the carbs and BigPharma fake meds?

I built exactly that, many years ago, and still have it. Was given a 20" Sensation rotary mower. It was a rental shop unit that had been dropped off a truck, and broke one of the ears off the cast magnesium deck where a wheel mounted. He couldn't rent it out that way, and gave it to me. I saw the rest of the front of the deck off, and fitted it with row of tines to stop the weeds from laying down as the blade cut them, and skids to prevent the blade from contacting the ground. Fitted it with an extra-long fixed handle so it cannot be pulled back over the operator's toes, and added rear wheels taken from a Strawberry Shortcake girl's bike found in the dump, complete with little beads on the spokes that tinkle as it rolls.

This fellow also claims there's a Trump bias in the betting markets because participants skew male.

Yep, my Casio "atomic watch" has this common bug about the DST change. It syncs at midnight (tries to, if it fails, it tries several more times on the hour).
It did, and immediately jumped back to standard time, which means 11:30PM, 11/2.
The bug is in the interpretation of the DST bits in the Ft. Collins radio time signal. One bit flips on the UTC date of the change, the other flips the next day.
Some devices immediately change the time on the "pending bit" and don't do the 2AM local thing properly.

At RCP, the Atlas Intel polls which dropped today (about 8 or so), are all very promising. So are most of the final Rasmussen polls (except for MI). These are respected names in the industry.
As for Seltzer, I do think there's a lot of shoot-the-messenger going on. If she'd reported that Trump was +10 in IA, no-one would be accusing her of being on the take, etc.

Well, I just manually set this PC back to standard time. Be interesting to see what happens at 0200. My 5 dollar watch that the knob fell off, I just opened up and took the battery out, and will replace it in about 55 minutes, when it reads the correct MST.

I used to have that problem multi-booting different OSes during around the time change, and would set only one to do it automatically, or try to set it that way, but there'd be one I'd forget.
Now, with NTP time syncing, it's not a problem any more, as they sync up and know the real, unambiguous UTC time from NTP, and don't do that.

One of the odder things about the political climate right now is that the Dems are the party of the rich but endlessly complain about "tax cuts for the rich".
This circle gets squared because the Democrats have gotten wealthy by taxing normal people. But mostly no one talks about it. Lily mentions it indirectly, but it would have been nice to see her refine her comments a bit:

Oddly enough, no. I assumed that using that salon product stuff would make it stink like a graying Wine Aunt, but the product I used was pretty much scent-free. A quick rinse under warm water and an hour or two to dry on the dish rack, and that's all it took.

I'm doing a little experiment with file timestamps on a FAT32 drive here, just to see. Creating two files during the ambiguous period, the first 1AM and then the second. I want to see how it displays it.
All FAT systems store (low resolution) timestamps in local time, rather than UTC, and this ambiguity is a problem.

Yes, I did everything, but it didn't make much if any difference on the keycaps as they were already pretty good after just a soap-and-water bath. It did make a huge difference on the spacebar, though, which is made of the same ABS as the keyboard itself.

This is the stuff you want. Clean the parts in soapy water first. I spread tinfoil on a cookie sheet, spread the developer on everything with a small paintbrush to get down in all the crannies, laid them on the cookie sheet and then wrapped one layer of plastic wrap around the entire thing. I set it on the roof of my truck and rotated it every two or three hours. Mine took two days as it wasn't very sunny out.

And just confirmed the source of a bug in a little astro-time program I had written. It wouldn't note the time change as it should. Long story, but it turned out there was a delay in the Windows API reflecting the change in as timezone structure.
I had surmised that must be it, and wrote some code to check for it. That was it. Funny thing is the GUI display all changed instantly, however the structure returned to my program took about 3 seconds to change.

There is this legal theory about the spirit of the law versus the letter of the law.
The letter of the law states that you’re not allowed to own wild animals in the state of New York. It was written in the spirit that you shouldn’t be able to own animals that might pose a danger to the public or the environment, such as a rabies-carrying bat or something equally dangerous.
The spirit of the law would also suggest that the law wasn’t written to kill a domesticated squirrel that survived as a rescue and lived as someone’s pet for almost a decade.
Real cops understand this. It’s why most of them (barring some exceptions) wouldn’t pull you over for driving 1mph over the speed limit.
The issue with these law enforcement agents from the NYSDEC is that they’re desk jockey bureaucrats. They’re not real police. And so they take the opportunity to flex their legal muscles wherever and whenever they can get it.
This entire fiasco with Peanut the squirrel was an exercise in the unjust application of the law.

Courts don’t want to wade into this mess and they’d all become targets of deranged commies. Most judges have no security.
Any court case would end up before the Supremes, so this is relying on John Roberts to save us. The Supremes might do another Bush c Gore to stop an ongoing attempt by Dems to take away a Trump state, but they’re not going to take a state from Kamala, no matter how eff’d the cheating is.

I told her he was busy getting his minions in place, all during that first term. That's why he didn't shove *everything* down our throats when he had both House & Senate in his pocket, I told her.
