A Jewish man was shot multiple times in the shoulder as he was walking to a synagogue in Chicago on Saturday in broad daylight, Fox 32 Chicago, the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), and the Chicago Police Department announced on Sunday. The man, 39, was shot by a 23-year-old gunman in the 2,600 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, which is home to many Orthodox Jewish families. The gunman, who has yet to be identified, was heard on a security camera recording screaming "Allahu akbar" before engaging in a two-and-a-half-minute shootout with the police. The Chicago Police Department told JNS that the incident was under investigation but did not directly confirm that the victim was Jewish. However, when asked if the victim was wearing anything that identified him as an Orthodox Jew during a press conference, Deputy Police chief Kevin Bruno said that "the victim is from the community." Bruno said that at 9:35 a.m., the man was walking in West Rogers Park "when an armed offender approached from behind and fired shots at the victim, striking the victim in the shoulder."

It would sound weird to say that God wants to give us "charisma" or God wants to extend his "charisma" to us. But that's the Greek word. It's how Great He is.
And, at least in Christian theology, Jesus is the incarnate representation which demonstrates his seeking, forgiving, compelling personality.

Most name brand prebuilt pcs have a) shitty power supplies, b) shitty proprietary motherboards with inadequate capacitors, all sorts of weird riser boards, profiles etc. so they will not fit in a standard case, and c) lowest cost bidder type memory. They usually have lousy and noisy ventilation.
Some of the gamer models are a bit better but I prefer to choose components so they are long lasting by using a top grade power supply, quiet but well cooled, good motherboards with solid VRM, higher than normal RAM memory configs aiming at stability rather than speed, and I usually still have enough optical drives including blurays around to put one of those in. I don't use the crappy included with CPU coolers either.
Had to start reusing cases as a lot of cases today no longer have anywhere for optical drives to go or for additional front facing USB ports, etc.

I don't know if anyone really knows what's going on. But I still can't believe, whatever happened to cause it, that he would go on the air and ream out his staff and threaten to quit. Very demoralizing and toxic to do to your staff. That is Kamala level stuff, Tim should be above that.
Tim's fence-sitting doomsday grifter schtick got tiring for me, but I give him mad props for building the empire he did. I think he's burnt out and is mismanaging things because he has no executive experience. (As Jeremy pointed out in his video on the news, then hire staff to manage it for you that do have that training! He has the money to do it.)
Some say it's because he was part of the Tenet scam and that money's dried up now, but I think he was making enough anyway without that.
Jeremy said Tim's biggest mistakes are not hiring a manager, hiring friends, expecting his staff to live out in the boonies for a tech job, and not having backup computers and tech. Apparently he also had some potential side hustle/nonprofit hustles fall through. Dude is stressed.

Royal judges in France before the Revolution were just as apt to provide injustice and ignore the laws. The backlash was so bad that even today, the Council of State has the power to review laws for constitutionality but the judges do not. Council of State has the former presidents of France, the Justice Minister, etc. but no judges.
The highest court in France is the Court of Cassations and they sit in six divisions--three civil, one criminal, one commercial, and one is for labor law cases--thus nothing special about them. They don't have the power to declare laws unconstitutional and thus must only address whether lower courts applied the law correctly.
In what we would consider trials for major felonies, they have to sit in panels of three judges so you don't get the arrogant judge showing their ass in trial court as much. And mid level appellate courts can consider both errors of the trial court of law and errors of fact from the trial court in its proceedings.

Most name brand prebuilt pcs have a) shitty power supplies, b) shitty proprietary motherboards with inadequate capacitors, all sorts of weird riser boards, profiles etc. so they will not fit in a standard case, and c) lowest cost bidder type memory. They usually have lousy and noisy ventilation.
Some of the gamer models are a bit better but I prefer to choose components so they are long lasting by using a top grade power supply, quiet but well cooled, good motherboards with solid VRM, higher than normal RAM memory configs aiming at stability rather than speed, and I usually still have enough optical drives including blurays around to put one of those in. I don't use the crappy included with CPU coolers either.
Had to start reusing cases as a lot of cases today no longer have anywhere for optical drives to go or for additional front facing USB ports, etc.

Prayers for a good recovery sent.
I have taken care of four knee replacements in my family.
Advice: Run that ice water circulation device a LOT. Lots of painful trauma to that entire area. Swelling pushes the sore stuff to even more painful positions.
Start moving and doing the PT recommended by the doc. My father was walking (on the walker) 8 hours after his second replacement. The recovery on that one was much smoother than his first one.
My brother had his replacement a week ago. He is already at 5-135 degrees. He also learned the value of PT and movement on his first replacement.

When I lived in South Africa (66-94) there were no jury trials, those had been done away (for obvious educational, cultural, societal and political reasons). Trials always had a judge and two assessors (also judges). Worked pretty well.
I have no idea if that system is still in place.

I find it a bit amusing but also a bid sad that we've become more sensitive than we were in the 1970s. Comedians routinely would offend ethnic, religious, whatever groups cause it was funny not because they were trying to be overly offensive. We could actually laugh at ourselves.

Agreed! I rewatched Footloose recently because it was the 40th anniversary. Man, was Lithgow good as the preacher dad. Yes, he's harshing the fun of the kids in the town, but man, he brings such depth to the "antagonist." You completely sympathize with his why, even if the what is too severe.
(Kevin Bacon returned to the Highschool in Lehi where it was filmed, which is being torn down. Class act! There's actors I know are libs, yet they have all my goodwill. Lithgow and Bacon are two of them.)

I want to emphasize that this is truly vile stuff. I don't know if anybody actually got through the book. Basically the Dhalgren of pulp movie fiction.
Pretty much the entire Buckaroo Banzai fandom has decided to ignore the creator at this point, and declare everything to be non-canonical.
The other sad thing is that almost everybody who was dedicated enough to pre-order the book, was really hoping to get a series and continue to give the guy money. But no.

I just saw an old Ernest Borgnine interview where Spencer Tracy was encouraging him right before his audition to play the lead in Marty, and congratulated him afterward. They ended up being in competition that year, for the Oscar for Best Actor.
And even though Borgnine won, you know that Tracy was probably as proud of him as he was regretful for not winning himself. Because people who really love their art, love it as something bigger than themselves.
So yeah, going to Lehi is the gracious thing for an actor to do, and the good thing for a man to do. It shows that Bacon appreciated that movie as a project bigger than himself, and that those folks and that old school helped him become what he is today. And however bittersweet, I bet they'll all have fun too.
