No but really, it's from October 9:

Viking History
@vikinghistoric

Yesterday in Norway, hundreds of beacons were lit as part of the public opposition to wind power. Many argue that wind turbines ruin the landscape and are an inefficient source of energy.

I've linked this bouncy boy before but in case you missed it...

Puppy makes friends with a camel. Whoops, not a giraffe. Like Joe Biden, my head gets a little fuzzy past 6pm.

This is like me when people try to make me leave Medieval Times. More grog, wench!

Guard dog belongs to a union. He gets a 15 minute break every 10 minutes.

Dancing in the rain.

This cat is itself a cat lady. I don't even know how that works.

A couple of octopuses having a natural moment of gross love.

Moo Deng update: still cute.

When a cow blocks your epic run.

These bears. Do I have to even say it?

Crippled dogs are so excited to be put into their wheel-rigs so they can run and play.

Rabbit, get your ass t' Mars.

The springs on this deer are epic.

Munch much?

Helping a beached shark back into the ocean. Thank you, I guess...?

Now that's a giant cactus.

A fox sticks by his sick dog friend.

This is what I imagine David French's dreams are like.

ArthurK. tells me it's an isopod.

Out of control. But sometimes well-behaved, despite the bigotry shown to them.

First attested in English in 1785, the word camelopardalis comes from Latin, and it is the romanization of the Greek (kamēlos), "camel" + (pardalis), "spotted", because it has a long neck like a camel and spots like a leopard.

91 Former Jay done good.

I was cheering for the Dodgers out of Yankees hate already but I have a new reason now.

||Teoscar Hernandez and Kevin Kiermaier are two former Jays outfielders, with the latter having spent time with the team on each of the past two seasons. Hernández is hitting .333 with four hits, a homer, two RBIs, and a run scored in three games in the series. Kiermaier didn’t crack the final World Series roster but will still win a ring should the Dodgers pull it off. Given that he’s planning to retire at the end of this season, it would be quite the sendoff for Kiermaier to end his MLB career.

The Dodgers also have a pair of bullpen arms with ties to the Blue Jays. Anthony Banda and Daniel Hudson both spent some time with the team in 2022 and 2019, respectively.||

Many animals and birds have complex vocalizations in evidence, and the apes have a pretty good base set. Back in the early days it was assumed that brain size would develop first but then when fossils were found the reverse was found - bipedalism and fully erect gait developed very early and brain size last.

So the most likely trigger was hominids changing to a lifestyle that gave up hiding in trees and moving to one where frequent walking on the open ground and hunting and foraging required more facing danger, outthinking predators, required larger brains, more hand work and better communication in tandem.

I've heard off and on about theories of aquatic periods to explain the lack of body hair. Having hair never seemed to lead to hair loss in seals, though. or penguins and sea birds their feathers. Given the postulated core area being well inland in East Africa it seems unlikely but I haven't read any detailed case for or against it.

184 Previously, on Ayn and Werner Meet the Loup Garou: Ayn and I were awakened by a frantic call from Walter Hill, whose film production in the Louisiana bayous was beset with a lurking menace that drove away the locals who were used as extras while attacking and in some cases apparently killing and eating members of the crew. The only clue amounted to tracks of an abnormally large bipedal canine. Of course you all know well of what Werner speaks -clearly, you say, it is James Carville.

Surprisingly, that was not the case. Ayn immediately divined that it was a Loup Garou, a moody French version of a werewolf. Werner was surprised that she knew of such things, as werewolves are traditionally an issue that Deutsch people and the other folk of Central and Eastern Europe must contend with. They are a huge bummer, for example, at Oktoberfest, hogging all the beer and chasing off the delightful jungfraus in their enticing dirndls. Eventually must come the reckoning, where asses are kicked and names taken, and the werewolves are stuck with the tab. 1/

188 If Trump (The Antichrist) is elected, then the following will happen to America......

The Mississippi becomes a river of blood

Frogs emerge from the Mississippi and destroy the Mississippi River Valley

Lice emerge from the ground and infest the Corn Belt

Wild animals or flies harm Americans and their livestock

Mass death of American livestock to pestilence

Boils infect Gays and Transgenders and their livestock

Thunderstorm of hail and fire and Cat 10 Hurricanes due to Global Warming !!!

Locust swarm all Major Blue Cities

Death of every Democrat’s firstborn transgender child

Do want this to happen??? Then vote for Harris/Walz to save the world from Trump's Antichrist Agenda.

Nobody else has motive and ability. For one thing shortly before it was blown there was a US task force on maneuvers in the area, which you would think would make any other saboteurs wait a bit. Various people connected to the US government, including Biden mentioned before the fact that Nordstream would soon be it use. A Polish EU crat said the same, and he's married to another Deep Stater from the US.

The fact that no investigation info was released is telling. Seymour Hersch wrote up a theory that we did it, and since I have heard other theories saying it was Ukraine or some motley crew in a rented boat. Neither seems convincing and the Ukraine option seems just an alternate way of admitting blame.

Yes "melting" and subliming shouldn't go together. Comets mostly sublime. The ice/snow turns directly into gas as it gets close to the sun. Solar wind then ionizes and lights all that up, making the visible tail.

Also I had in my baggage my long-treasured WWI trench knife, gifted to me by my grandfather, and loving inscribed Sag noch einmal mas.

Ayn had made herself comfortable, as always. She had only head-butted one flight attendant for taking too long to return with a Scotch and Soda, and pistol-whipped only one Sky Marshal, followed by multiple kneeings to his groin that left him a quivering, vomiting mass. She then turned and addressed all the passengers: Yo! I ain't flyin' with you, you be flyin' with me! This be Ayn's Hizz-ouse and you bitches better recognize! Slowly, but steadily, the passengers began applauding, culminating in a standing ovation. A young mother asked her to scribble her autograph on her infant's forehead, and she posed for numerous photos. Travel with Frau Rand was always diverting. 2/

303 As for Werner, I simply took solace in having talked Ayn down from her original plan - she wanted to perch herself on the port wing of the airliner to both taunt and frighten the passengers, just like in that Twilight Zone episode. Which was unique, as Ayn had never watched the Twilight Zone, and Rod Serling was one of the few Hollywood celebrities she had neither met or punched out.

Having knocked back her eighth Scotch and Soda, she raised the question as to whether she should batter her way into the cockpit and force the pilot to do a series of barrel rolls. I persuaded her that the passengers could only take so much enthusiasm, and changed the subject.

Ayn, I said, please tell Werner how you think we should deal with this. Walter Hill is a superb film-maker and a screenwriter almost as good as yourself, but he is a civilian. Werewolves, even faggy French ones, are an Old World kind of thing. We have to keep him and the crew safely out of the way while we duke this out with the Loup Garou. 3/

"Inefficient" on its own, would not be so bad if the wind turbines were cheap and plentiful. The real killer is that they, or the wind that drives them, are unreliable. When the wind doesn't blow, they don't generate, and nothing can be done to change that. A thousand "inefficient" wood-fired boilers driving reciprocating steam engines is vastly more reliable than a thousand wind turbines.

To enhance survivability of the frigates, important systems are laid out in the two island principle, i.e. present at least twice at different places within the ship.

345 Easy, Ayn murmured. Remember that time we hit the ketamine too hard and i forced that guy at SUNY to sell me wolf pheromones? Got it right here, she said, tapping the carry-on luggage panel. We hit LSU's Biology Department and snap up some wolf howling audio, and once we're on set and the moon rises, we put that stuff to work.

Really, Ayn? Werner was puzzled here. Ja, Werner (she never called me Vern), all we need is some good audio equipment, and Walt's bound to have that. I will work that wall of noise with an accompanying challenge to a duel to the death. Loup Garou and Ayn, each holding one end of a bandana in our teeth, talons and fangs against your trench knife, which you will of course lend me, and one pair of your heirloom brass knuckles.

I was aghast. Surely, I said, you can't be serious. Oh, Playa, she laughed, of course i'm serious, and don't call me "Shirley." I noticed a young man listening in and taking notes. Turned out it was David Zucker. The youngster didn't even offer a screen credit. Oh, and the kid whose forehead Ayn tattooed? A young Sam Raimi. At New Orleans, Hill had a car waiting for us. The driver? Woodrow Guthrie. To be continued..

347 BREAKING: Colorado voting machine passwords were LEAKED online by the Democrat Secretary of State. Specifically, over 600 passwords for machines in 63 of the state’s 64 counties were posted for anyone to see

If only there were a process to find such to 'spoil' the election and toss out Colorado results... Unless they can do a clean do-over by election day.

"BIOS passwords are highly confidential, allowing broad access for knowledgeable users to fundamentally manipulate systems and data and to remove any trace of doing so. Due to the sensitivity surrounding BIOS passwords, Colorado election regulation (8 CCR 1505-1), Rule 20.5.2(c)(11), requires limited access to a select few at the Colorado Department of State; neither county clerks nor commissioners have access to these files." - @cologop

Anybody can plug whatever they want.

It's a little harder to do that with sealed boxes with paper ballots with partisan observers bird-dogging it the entire time as part of the chain of custody.

Presumably, Saturn's rings are composed of ice particles? Build ships like giant combine harvesters to sweep through the rings, and "bale" the snowflakes into lumps that can be launched to hit Mars.

Just looking, I see Elon said something about using big nukes to vaporize a lot of CO2 at the polar ice caps. It would release a lot of dust as well, and there was some debate whether it work efficiently or not.

The main thing to get Mars terraformed is increase the atmosphere and warm it up. Then you've got to keep it (think solar wind stripping due to lack of magnetic field). There are some ideas about an artificial magnetosphere.

Then, you worry about water and O2 (unless some method of getting them there helps with the pressure and the temperature).

Just reading about one of the magnetic shield ideas. You place a large dipole (think a big MRI machine) at the Sun-Mars Lagrange point. This gets Mars in the magnetotail of the thing and diverts the solar wind. Somewhat.

All you have to do is just keep the rate of solar wind stripping low enough to maintain a balance with whatever you're doing to pump more gas into the atmosphere.

Oh, I don't doubt the Ho has bused in thousands of rent-a-crowds. Just that the dozen or so buses shown in the linked video scarcely constitute a "massive" line. If there were 11,000 people bused in, there had to be a lot more more buses, or else the people were parking in lots in the 'burbs, and being shuttled to the Ellipse in buses making many, many runs. Which is exactly how spectators are transported to the Barrett-Jackson auto auction in Scottsdale, AZ.

The L4 and L5 points are stable, meaning objects can maintain their orbits around these points for extended periods. These points form the apex of two equilateral triangles, with the Sun and Mars at the vertices. L4 leads the orbit of Mars, while L5 trails behind.
