Kamala Harris's Hot New Plan to Woo Black Men: How's Legal Weed and Free $20,000 "Loans" That Don't Have to be Repaid Sound?
The loans were first announced for blacks only, but after being criticized for this obviously racist promotion, the campaign says that the loans can be applied for by whites, too.

Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled an "Opportunity Agenda" plan for Black men, which includes a proposal of forgivable loans of up to $20,000 to Black entrepreneurs.
She also pledged to support federal marijuana legalization, a big step beyond the Biden administration's current stance. Harris' crypto plans "will make sure owners of and investors in digital assets benefit from a regulatory framework so that Black men and others who participate in this market are protected," her campaign said.

Harris' announcement is aimed at increasing her support among Black male voters, and comes in the final weeks of an extremely close race between the Democratic vice president and Republican former President Donald Trump. The plan outlined Monday would provide 1 million fully forgivable loans of up to $20,000 to Black entrepreneurs and others to start a business. The loans would be financed through partnerships between "mission-driven lenders," community oriented banks and the Small Business Administration, the campaign said.

This has been a disaster in Oregon.
It turns out that marijuana is just an agricultural crop - it's not particularly profitable, and way, way, more marijuana retail stores opened in Portland than were needed for the fairly limited demand.
Yeah, blacks got preference to some licenses and some State subsidies, which allowed them to start up marijuana-related businesses that then went bankrupt.
Stoners and Kamala think that legal marijuana is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and it's not.

Why do I have to pay an income tax on my wages but a waiter doesn't? I paid cash for my car, so I dont get a tax rebate? A blue state that has sky high income taxes gets to qualify for a bigger refund than my red state that has low taxes?

If you're going to tax interest I receive from my investments, then I should be able to deduct interest i pay.
All this stuff was deductible up until the 1984 (?) tax reform. I remember and still have the copies of my early 80's tax returns to verify it. (I know, I know -hoarder...)

That is correct. Kinda. 1/2 of your total social security and Medicare is taxed on all wages. Pre tax deductions (like 401 k contributions) reduce only the sum of money subject to.income tax....which is why your box 1 of the W2 is often smaller than box 3 and 5. However, your employer pays the other half of your Social Security and Medicare.
Being self employed changes this a bit.....but you still get an adjustment to your taxable income.

If building a broad coalition was their plan all along, i think they would have started much earlier. The fact that they're doing a Republican outreach surge at the last minute (along with the black male one) tells me the original gameplan of base turnout is not proving to be effective enough, and they're scrambling for a few more votes.

So it sounds like it was a typical government fuck-up by Congress and the Department of Education in writing the rules of the program. Or they deliberately made the rules unclear so this very thing would happen. Malice or incompetency or both. Who knows.

Depends which one it is. There has been a long standing public employer program to forgive the loan but there are quite a few hoops to jump through. It then become income and is taxed. If it is referencing this program, then the courts will do nothing because it is in the law already.

It turns out that marijuana is just an agricultural crop - it's not particularly profitable, and way, way, more marijuana retail stores opened in Portland than were needed for the fairly limited demand.

One thing that happened in CA was that the legal shops started to sub in illegal pot and pocket the price difference by not paying into the government. So the state started to go into inspecting their legal shops and doing a war on the illegal crops just like before.
So people started going back to the illegal dealers. So they started prosecuting that again too.

Exactly the same has happened in Illinois. There is nearly zero enforcement of laws against street weed sales -- a major reason being that currently favored grievance groups were "disproportionately" affected by enforcement when all recreational weed was illegal...so can't go after them now. Plus, the taxes and overheads applied to legal weed.

I retired last year and when my old clients heard about it they began calling.
Now if you own a small business you have to register with FinCEN. That stands for Financial Criminal Enterprise Network. Yes, for the first time ever if you are in business you are suspected of illegal activity. The fine to not register in time (1/2/2025) starts at $591/day! This also applies to family trusts or any endeavor that has an EIN or similar government ID.

I believe it is levied on gross income. Also, based upon its return value there should be nothing to tax. You earn less than 1% on the taxes you paid. It is blatantly double taxation - and it especially hits black males hard, who have a negative return due to less life expectancy.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program has been part of federal student loans for decades now.
Prior to this Congress just kept changing the work eligibility requirements so that no one ever actually could meet them.
Which meant that you had a bunch of people in public service jobs, trusting the feds' promise (fools) that if they worked in public service their loans would be forgiven if they stayed in those jobs long enough.
It was the Feral Gov's way of ensuring they always had indentured workers to do jobs that most people wouldn't otherwise do for the pay offfered.
As loath as I am to praise anything Biden has ever done, making the PSLF qualifications easier to meet was one of them.

Plus, a lot of the legal growers entered the illegal weed market. The biggest legal weed grower in Santa Barbara did that years ago. As I recall, he could grow and process weed legally in SoCal, and then he'd ship it to areas where it was illegal. He finally got busted driving a box truck full of illegal ganja in Oklahoma (which he'd grown legally in CA) while delivering to local drug dealers. Ended up having to shut down most of the local SB dispensaries for about a year.

That is correct. Kinda. 1/2 of your total social security and Medicare is taxed on all wages. Pre tax deductions (like 401 k contributions) reduce only the sum of money subject to.income tax....which is why your box 1 of the W2 is often smaller than box 3 and 5. However, your employer pays the other half of your Social Security and Medicare.
Being self employed changes this a bit.....but you still get an adjustment to your taxable income.

They already are. A squad of about a dozen US troops were taken out in the Kursk offensive with their APC. I'm sure they have all the papers to make it right. Reportedly a lot of foreign fighters were in on the early stages of that incursion, presumably to capture a nuclear plant near Kursk.

It's a moot point as it is not going to happen without re-writing almost the entire income tax code and social security withholding laws. No way is any president going to get the sign off from congress on that without offering ever increasing levels of grift to their favored constituents.

Think of it from the other direction then: this type of income isn't taxed, so maybe other types of income shouldn't be taxed. Add a couple of those that are exempt from taxation.
Then repeat with some other kind of income.
Eventually, you've repealed the income tax for everyone.

Anyway I believe the No tip tax plan is more to help the restaurant business than the waitstaff. That said I would put an amount of tips one could make before it is taxed.
High dollar restaurant waitstaff can make big bucks and agree it’s not fair not to tax to other professions making the same amount .

Gifts are not Federally taxed. Estates are taxed, but only those above ~$10MM. The gift-reporting limit you are referring to is a way to prevent circumventing estate taxes by giving large, unreported gifts to your heirs.

There is no more Western Equipment to donate. The EU nations have been on the cheap for decades and gave lots of their equipment away to Ukraine. Germany hasn't enough tanks to train its men, they have to collect vehicles from the entire army to train one unit. Brits are even worse off.
That's why this saber rattling pisses me off. Western countries don't even have a saber to use if the bluff gets called.

In my experience waitron units would claim enough tips to reach minimum wage and pocket the rest. I understand now that tips on credit cards are reported by the employer as income.

The downside of having K have all the power of the presidency is that she could actually fire these handlers and put others in their place. It is a danger for all puppet masters that the puppet betrays them. Happens a lot with royal regencies when the king or queen reaches majority.
But notice that Biden the president is hardly mentioned at all anymore even as a fiction. It was a coup and nobody even fraudulently elected is running things.
