Trump Releases Campaign Ad Decrying "WOKE" Military, Using Clips from Full Metal Jacket;
Stanley Kubrick's Daughter Denounces Him.
Wait, My Mistake: Stanley Kubrick's Daughter Defends Him.

Well that was unexpected. Vivian Kubrick composed the music for Full Metal Jacket so she has some say in this.

First, the ad:

As the left attacked Trump for using an anti-war film to make a point about the need for military strength, Vivian Kubrick said she agreed with him.

And further, so would her father have, were he still alive.

She even claims Stanley Kubrick was a... Reaganite??!!

Vivian Kubrick
@ViKu1111

TO THOSE WHO THINK MY FATHER WOULDN'T HAVE WANTED #TRUMP TO USE FMJ FOOTAGE

Here are my thoughts: I agree in principle that an anti-war movie is incongruous with promoting the idea of a tough non-woke US military and thus war itself - however - these are very dangerous and strange times and thus using this footage is doubtless pure expedience.

Because I'm sure the irony of using FMJ footage is not lost on Trump or his team - Trump is always seeking to end wars and use peaceful methods. However, that's primarily what FMJ is about, the shocking and complicated paradoxes of human nature.

And thus, on this tooth and claw planet, you need a very strong military - so I'm going to stick with the idea that FMJ footage was used primarily because of its powerful, realistic portrayal of boot camp, juxtaposed with the entirely demoralizing and inappropriate injection of WOKE ideology into the USA military. Which I agree with myself and which I'm certain my father would have agreed with.

Truthfully, I believe my father (who supported Reagan), would very much approve of saving America, indeed the world, from the highly destructive Globalist forces threatening to take over this planet. And if that footage from FMJ helps Trump make the point that the US military needs properly trained, super tough, focused, dedicated warriors, and not introduce the demoralizing effects of woke-ism, and attracting people to join up simply to have their sexual reassignments paid for, then Trump has my blessing.

Finally, knowing my father very well, I can assure you he had a profound grasp of how paradoxical human nature is! Which accounts for how at the same time he made anti-war films, he had a great passion for guns (self-defense not hunting) and he had quite a few!

My father had a great respect for life - his movies being unimpeachable evidence of his love for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! So on that basis, I feel very confident he would be a Trump supporter and would forgive using FMJ incongruously, if it helps the cause of freedom!

Capisce?

Spartacus was a director for hire job that Kubrick effectively disowned.

The original director, Anthony Mann, got fired by star/producer Kirk Douglas after a week. Douglas invited Kubrick to take over based on his experience on Paths of Glory.

The only casting decision Kubrick had any say in was the casting of Jean Simmons.

It's honestly more a Kirk Douglas and Douglas Trumbo show than Kubrick.

Oh, it is poor. If Kubrick had wanted to tell a ghost story, he could have commissioned his own script. Instead he warped the King novel to the point where I didn't *care* if Jack kills Wendy, Danny, the black cook who also had the telepathic power, the manager of the hotel, seven innocent bystanders, the gardener, and then himself.

Kubrick has Nicholson turn into a kind of hairless werewolf. I kept hoping he would spring on Shelly Duvall and bite her neck.

Free State Project, which is sort of like a Mennonite colony for Libertarians. And since it is a real life place, instead of stoners justifying why they can live on a comfortable beach and not pay rent, it has pretty much attracted people who work and have families, so they tend a bit more conservative. Not sane or genteel, but radically conservative like Benjamin Tucker or Rose Wilder Lane were.

Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara

I don't recall if it's the Geneva Convention or one of the other treaties on land warfare, but there are prohibitions on modifying bullets to cause more serious injuries, and hollow-point bullets generally are considered to fit that description.

Some sniper bullets have a tiny hollow tip hole that slightly changes the balance for superior ballistics, but as it doesn't cause significant change to terminal impact, and the purpose is for accuracy, and not additional injury, it's allowed. Black Hills Match rounds, as I recall.

255 full metal jacket is to avoid mushrooming or other deforming bullets that are against laws of war. The idea is that bullets developed to mushroom add to the wounding power to no real purpose other than to cause harm.

256 Why would the Geneva Convention care about lead build-up?
------------------
They don't but the military does like to lengthen the service life of a rifle barrel. I think the 'humane' thing is from WWI with Thompsons and most service rifles firing straight lead. Lead can mushroom on contact. The 5.56 is FMJ but originally was lighter and would tumble in a target thus causing more damage and larger wound channel. The idea is to kill what you shoot at and have them die fast. Bleeding out fast does that.
