Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee is a 1633 oil-on-canvas painting by the Dutch Golden Age painter Rembrandt van Rijn. It is classified as a history painting and is among the largest and earliest of Rembrandt's works. It was purchased by Bernard Berenson for Isabella Stewart Gardner in 1869 and was displayed at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston before its theft in 1990; it remains missing. The painting depicts the biblical event in which Jesus calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee, as is described in the fourth chapter of the Gospel of Mark.[1] It is Rembrandt's only seascape.[2]

In the past three weeks, 14 more IDF soldiers have been killed while defending the State of Israel. Overnight, in two separate incidents, eight IDF soldiers were killed while battling Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon. Amit Bakri, Daniel Mimon Toaff, Dotan Shimon, and Agam Naim were killed when they entered a building in Gaza that had been booby-trapped by Hamas terrorists. Agam is the first female IDF soldier killed during the IDF's ground campaign against Hamas in Gaza. Tomer Keren was killed by a Hezbollah suicide drone that landed in the Western Galilee, and Nael Fwarsy was killed in the Galilee panhandle by Hezbollah anti-tank missile fire. May their memories be a blessing; they will forever be remembered as heroes. 🕯️ https://tinyurl.com/p46edax8 portrait photos Posted by: andycanuck (CEzQx) at October 02, 2024 08:15 PM (CEzQx) 49

Pre-Incorporation ... it was not - absolutely NOT - viewed as anything more than a check on the Federal power. What you state is simply - in context - wrong. Went without power for five days once. It's amazing how much we depend on the grid. I remember that it took a couple of days for me to stop flicking a light switch, out of pure habit.

It's amazing how much we depend on the grid.
Yes. Ive been doing a series on the refrigerator revolution (the second part went live this morning, so link in nic), which basically followed the grid from urban to rural areas. Its amazing how much just that one product changed how we live, and it is entirely reliant on a constant electrical supply. Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at October 02, 2024 09:49 PM (PmqP5) 202
Greenville and Spartanburg power infrastructure was trashed. Duke is going at it as fast they can, but the damage is extensive. They're getting it reenergized all around here but my spur is gonna need at least 4 poles replaced, and they'll get to it when they get to it.

I was nearly six days without power after Beryl. We were better prepared than most, but that depended on being able to get gas for the generators. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at October 02, 2024 09:50 PM (BkEzK) 205
149 50 Anna, I finally had an authentic vegemite sandwich, from a real Australian. I didn't hate it! But they served it like a tea sandwich...it had the vegemite and butter and cucumbers, and the crusts were cut off. I think the sweetness of the cucumber cut down the strong umami of the vegemite. Would eat again.
Posted by: LizLem at October 02, 2024 08:16 PM (QAK8m) ---- Marmite is even better. Just spread THINLY!, which is where Americans go wrong. Also great with a slice of cheese on top. Posted by: thathalfrican - steady mobbing at October 02, 2024 09:48 PM (eZwyX) Yeah, we didn't run generator. At the 48 hour point, items in freezer began to soften. I began preps to start generator, and the power was restored. If it was in the heat, we would have been OK due to generator for about a week, max. No fuel refills available. I was without power for 11 days in January after The Inaugural Day Windstorm" when BillyJeff took office. Trees down everywhere.
We still had water. No natural gas. I showered at the office. It was like camping. But we didn't lose our home. Prayers for those affected. I've not heard from Mike Hammer since Sunday. Posted by: nurse ratched at October 02, 2024 09:52 PM (t1jwT) 208
Publius, I hope you get your power back soon. My niece in Greenville got hers back today. They had a tree fall on the house, destroying their bonus room, garage, and the two cars inside, but fortunately none of them were hurt.

got 'prescribed' 10K D3 per day by my doctor, b/c of low levels. After that, 5K per day. I'm going to pick up some k2, as well, since I'm all out.
It’s important to take K2 if you’re supplementing with D3. A condition called hypercalcemia can result without it. Posted by: kallisto at October 02, 2024 09:56 PM (IvL/Z) 216
thathalfrican, yup. Every time I see another coal or nuclear plant turned off, especially. Those are the two most durable power sources in a crisis, because they can keep fuel for weeks and months on hand. So of course theyre the ones targeted most by the eloi class.

9 Hey Treadwell, don't you have a bear to feed?
Posted by: Anna Puma at October 02, 2024 08:15 PM (prNWB) Mission accomplished. Werner Herzog can tell you all about it. Posted by: tankdemon Ach, Werner is late to the thread. I had to chastise Keith Olbermann for trying to behave as if he was a human. Tanldemon aced the most important rule of feeding bears -he lived to tell the tale. With bruins, one must observe whether they are pissed, hungry, hungry and pissed, or just want to watch Dontown Abbey. This last is most important to them, and one must be careful not to interrupt their viewing. Now must Werner return to the chastisement of Olbermann. The taser has been recharged, and he shall show remorse for his sins against humanity. Posted by: Werner Herzog Has Opinions at October 02, 2024 09:56 PM (tmPIh) 218

We didn't need any constant power, and gas was maintained, which allowed hot water. Otherwise, we used candles and oil lamps. But yeah, not losing freezer goods was our main problem. USAAF estimated 2% of its bombs dropped in Europe were duds. So over 120,00 duds, including GP, frag, and incendiary. A 500 LB GP bomb would penetrate an average of 15 feet in soil with a maximum penetration of 40 ft. This is why dud bombs from all combatants are still being found. Fuses of those bombs were armed before impact. So who knows what will and will not cause the fuses to fire nowadays?
