Disney-Owned ABC "News" Cuts 75 More Employees Because They're Doing So Well and the Public Loves Them

Die.

What They're Saying:

ABC News and its local stations group got hit with 75 job cuts Wednesday as part of an ongoing restructuring at parent company Disney.

ABC News president Almin Karmehmedovic broke the news to staffers in a memo obtained by The Post, telling them that the network has had to make some "tough decisions."

"Across the various ranks of ABC News, a limited number of our colleagues are being impacted by staff reductions," he said. "As you know this has been happening across the broader company and the industry at large in recent weeks and months."

The exec -- who was promoted to the role of president in August after serving as executive producer of top-ranked "World News Tonight with David Muir" -- said his task is "shaping a team that embraces the new media landscape" who "evolve along with it."

What It Means:

A source familiar with the situation confirmed that the layoffs impacted 75 jobs across ABC News and ABC's stations group, split about evenly.

The source added that no on air talent has been impacted at either division.

Of course. Can't fire the "stars."

Why This Is Hilarious:

ABC "News" has seen a 12% ratings drop since their leftwing himbo rigged the Trump debate.

The ABC News debate may have drawn some 67 million viewers, but the network has faced nothing but headaches since. "ABC News is spiraling at the moment because there has been so much negative feedback as a result of that debate," Megyn noted. "Fair-minded people know what they did and just how biased and one-sided it was."

In addition to the bombshell accusations of journalistic malfeasance from an alleged whistleblower, viewers seem to be voicing their frustration with their remotes. Muir's World News Tonight averaged 6.7 million viewers on the three days following the debate, which is about one million less than he had been averaging in the lead-up to the event.

While the program remains the number one evening newscast on broadcast television, the 12 percent ratings drop was higher than the more negligible declines CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News saw over the same period.

Interesting. So the viewers who left ABC didn't go to one of the other networks to get their pablum, did they?
The others lost viewers too.

2. Review all of your contact information in banking profiles to makes sure there aren't unexplained phone numbers. In some instances, all you need is a phone number on the account to gain full access. I had to call one of our banks to have a phone number removed from the list of recovery #s on my account, a # I've never seen before.
3. Never allow remote access of your account on your computer to a bank. They don't do that. If you have questions, it can always wait until you find a branch, if available. (There's a scam going around where scammers will convince people, usually older people, into granting them this access, faking output on the screen, and then getting the scammed to fork over literally everything with a sob story.)
4. If a bank calls you, it's always best to call the actual number of the bank back to make sure it's them.
5. Freeze your credit.

Your data is breeched. Everyone's is. People are trying to steal your money all the time.

This is a big one. It adds overhead to getting credit if you need it - you have to unfreeze accounts before applying to new credit - but it's a great and free - not that the credit bureaus are happy about that - protection mechanism.

You can also "flag" your credit reports, which is a way of telling lenders, "look carefully here, because something has happened in the past that might make you want to be *really* sure of the identity of the person applying under this profile." It's not sure-fire, but if the lender pays attention to the flag and looks more closely, it can disrupt a lot of fraudulent credit activity.

And everyone *has* been breached. TJM is spot-on. An identity verification outfit suffered a mega-breach earlier this year and now *everything* is suspect.

Those online forms you've gone through that ask things like, "which car did you own in 2015" and "which address was yours in 2021" to confirm identity? Yeah, the company behind a lot of that. And there's no way out of that. The data are in the wild.

They had a meeting over an infrastructure bill and he met Pelosi and Schumer in person.

I recall Pelosi sabotaging that meeting and then cackling about it later.

There's no doubt in my mind that Trump had a plan to really elevate the infrastructure of the country and the dems couldn't allow it.

One is to use a very secure password manager 'vault' for internet passwords that is encrypted. Some free ones out there but PC Mag and Tomshardware often have reviews of these and other security products. Encrypting your hard drive will do it too but you CANNOT lose the encryption key or you are up a certain creek.

If you are still using Windows as a daily driver, you must apply security patches when you can. Make it manually but do it at least a couple of days after the warning to patch your systems. Run anti malware software, stay away from skeezy websites, create throwaway proxy emails if you must enter sweepstakes, product registry, etc.

Continued.

There are commercial services that act on your behalf to remove this data Privacy Bee and Optery are the two biggest ones. Optery has a free level that gives you an opportunity to diy removal or you can pay them to do it and I think Privacy Bee gives you a free scan opportunity to see what is out there but removal by them requires payment.

My problem with them isn't that they're into Disney, it's that they're kind of empty-headed about it all. They're Disney shills, never saying anything bad about anything like when She-Hulk was on and I heard him say "I liked it!" It seemed obvious in those fifteen seconds I was listening that he didn't, but he just gave it the nice soundbite and moved on.

And, when they're talking about food, which they often do trying everything in the park, it never amounts to more than, "I liked it."

It's shallow, facile, and they're not even fun. Bleh.

It's a holdover from a prior era, and hearkens back to a time of trust. The "star" wasn't a star in the "movie star" or "rock star" sense, he was a star in the "he is trustworthy" sense. The brand was trustworthiness. It was rarely if ever actually true, but that was the carefully-crafted narrative surrounding them. They were worth the money because they were "good investigators" and/or they were "trustworthy."

But that's basically gone now, and the "news reader anchor star" is probably going to vanish. The concept is no longer broadly fit for purpose. If they're just actors - and they are - then just cycle them out frequently and keep a pretty face on TV. OANN did this early on.

210 As far as home computing and via cellphones, make sure you have anti malware installed, don't go to dodgy places, I would recommend not using your cell phone for payments nor web shopping. Turn off Bluetooth when you do not actively need it. Use good VPN protection when using local data via your devices at hotels, cafes, etc. Accept the hit on performance if you use some of the reputable free VPN services. The safe ones are usually tied now to security software providers like Proton, Aura, etc. Free offer VPNs by randos are not to be trusted.

If you have some secure information that you need on your cell phone or something like a password list/contents and account numbers, etc. then encryption is your best bet aside from physical printouts etc. kept in locked security containers. That works too for secure encrypted thumbdrives of things like tax returns etc.

Create your US .gov authenticator application which can be used for managing various government accounts like Social Security, Veterans benefits, and even the reannounced passport renewal via online.

Both PC Mag website (free) and Toms Hardware (free) have regular ratings of security apps and tips on security.

Some of it was in the wild, which is why there are always so many factors in identity verification questions - addresses, cars, relatives, employers, etc. Any given piece of it - or every given piece of it - could be in the wild, but the odds of *one* malefactor having *every* piece were low. Those odds skyrocketed earlier this year thanks to that breach.

And yes, it's going to move to in-person for important stuff. I-9 forms, credit applications, bank accounts, etc. are increasingly going to require a paper form with a notary seal on it. It's probably the best way to proceed given the unreliability of security.

I don't think many of our spare parts work in the USSR built plants in Ukraine. And we don't *have* emergency stocks and probably never did. And while the misuse of FEMA funds is a disgrace, disaster relief isn't on the budget, they just get more money when a disaster happens and spend it in other parts of the country, then move it to the affected areas.

293 278 To be fair to Kamala, Biden is still President and could do all that "himself" or more properly his staffers could on his letterhead.

But yes she could have done all that and gotten things going if she cared, which none of the Democrats do. And of course, this is going to impact poor more than rich for real this time.

=======

I think the modern mentality of technocrats is that they push a button and a problem goes away.

This is part of why they attached to Big Tech so early and so eagerly. They could call up a number and suddenly, poof!, a problem Twitter account was gone forever. It was easy.

The point of government is to make a call and things just happen, like executing lines of code. That translates terribly to the real world, so when government is being called upon to do something in the real world, the skills it previously had to actually address those issues have atrophied to the point where it literally can't do it anymore.

Best practices are authenticator apps or even a physical security key dongle like Yubi required for access to accounts. Also wise to subscribe to data broker removal services along with Dark Web monitoring for password, account, etc. information floating around out there for sale.

Using credit cards or payment services to pay bills remotely rather than mailing checks is also a good call.

Everybody knew it was going to hit the Big Bend hard in FL and DeSantis was ready for it and the state of Florida has performed admirably for their part.

But I don't think many people beyond the Hurricane Center and the NWS anticipated what Helene was going to do past Florida and Georgia.

Once Helene got wrapped up in that cold front that was already sitting over the area, the mountains were already soaked from days of rain, it blew out like wringing a wet sponge. It is truly an unprecedented storm for the region, at least in modern times.

I grew up on the Gulf Coast - we used to track hurricanes on little charts printed on the paper grocery sacks. Everyone ilnew had one of those on their refrigerator door every summer. Category 4? We were heading north ASAP.

My daughter and her hubby live in my parents' old home near Asheville. They are Olay, but the road from their house to the Asheville airport has been underwater since the storm. Daughter had to drive to Charlotte to pick up her husband from the airport this week.

They are familiar with remnants. This time, and it was unprecedented in recent weather history, an existing cold front had been dumping flooding quantities of rain in the Appalachians several days prior to the hurricane remnants coming through with tropical storm winds. Trees will uproot if they are in saturated soils much more easily. Not enough time for a hurricane remnant to do that. This was a hurricane on top of an already flooded by 6-8 or more in spot rainfall over several days prior to the hurricane remnants.

While the program remains the number one evening newscast on broadcast television, the 12 percent ratings drop was higher than the more negligible declines CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News saw over the same period.

----

CBS will have a ratings drop too now, and for the same reason..

A Viking funeral is ongoing for the credibility of all the institutions. If the final steps of destroying the country as founded succeed, none of it will matter anymore. So they imagine.

359 Of course it all comes down to the degradation of the electorate - the populace - but just how hysterically awful the Harris/Walz candidates and campaigns are actually manages to set new lows.

Keeping everything else equal and substituting the electorate of a generation ago, these idiots are lucky to win 5 states.

It is one of the most reliable indicators of the quality of a leader is who he/she chooses as their subordinates. Weak people choose weaker people. Strong choose other strong people, even stronger than they are sometimes.

How you treat inferior status people outside your circle is another good indicator.

360 I have a colleague whose first language is Central American Español. She murders common idioms like no one I've ever seen.

Bram Stoker had Van Helsing do this a lot, too, in Dracula.

367 Is that Muir guy gay? I've only heard rumors of rumors, but you would think in 2024, when there are openly gay people on even the local news that you would at least get a definitive statement from a network anchor. Is Anderson Cooper afraid that if Muir comes out that Cooper will have to compete harder, if you know what I mean?

Once Helene got wrapped up in that cold front that was already sitting over the area, the mountains were already soaked from days of rain, it blew out like wringing a wet sponge. It is truly an unprecedented storm for the region, at least in modern times.

None of that excuses the lack of help a week later though.

Also the WNC area has a massive influx of new residents (including us, but we have been here for 10 years) with no experience in mountain flooding.

The news was saying there was going to be historic flooding but nobody said to evacuate.
