Is decorating with family photos tacky? Right? Better to hang rustic plaques on your walls that say things like "HOME," "EAT" and "LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE." More seriously, it's just a difference of how the home is used/perceived. I would assume people who hire her are decorating their homes for others to see (entertaining, etc.) vs. a lot of us use our home as a refuge and find family pictures comforting. Whatever. OK - I'm calling it - Tampon Timmy is a psychopath. I have been unfortunate enough to have been closely associated with two psychopaths - one personal, one work-related, and what they shared in common was that they enormously enjoyed lying, to the point that they would happily tell lies when the truth would suffice. Posted by: lurking grandma at September 30, 2024 10:27 PM (sujqA) HA HA HA!!! What idiots! Hanssen was recalled yet again to Washington, D.C., in 1987. He was tasked with studying all known and rumored penetrations of the FBI to find the man who had betrayed Martynov and Motorin; this meant, in effect, that he was charged with searching for himself. Hanssen ensured that he did not reveal himself with his study, but in addition, he gave the entire study—including the list of all Soviets who had contacted the FBI about FBI moles—to the KGB in 1988.[29] That same year, Hanssen, according to a government report, committed a "serious security breach" by revealing secret information to a Soviet defector during a debriefing. The agents working for him reported this breach to a supervisor, but no action was taken.[3] Posted by: The ARC of History! at September 30, 2024 10:39 PM (uxCna) 232

48 Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes he is now winning the war and is increasingly likely to order an invasion of southern Lebanon, experts said.

Re the flooding, we brought foodstuffs from Costco to RDU General Aviation where a local developer was flying round trips to the Buncombe Co. area. Ran into our dog sitter waiting in line at the store doing the same thing. People want to volunteer and drive over the 4-5 hours to lend a hand, but understandably that’s not being allowed. Much different than a coastal hurricane event due to the lack of access. Horrible situation. Will exceed the devastation of Katrina, especially on a per capita basis.

Tina Turner. Patti Smith. Grace Slick. They're all better singers than Nicks (and there are many more, including my relatively tone-deaf mother).
If you want to get into just commercial success? There also many more. Most of whom were also better than her. For instance, Joan Jett was a total hack. Still a better singer. Not as many hits. But bigger ones. But as far as talent, influence, and moneymaking? Well, there's Aretha Franklin, for one. About Catlin Clark and the WNBA...
With the Fever out of playoff contention due in part to opposing players commiting heinous fouls while the "refs" looked the other way. I have come to the conclusion that this is NOT about women's basketball. Darkly, it is about an effort by a supremely talented player who has risen above the standard mediocre play and in ONE season has managed to put this hodge-podge league on notice and in doing so, she has become a big target because of it. The reality is that she "an individual talent" will not be tolerated by the group think, socialist/Marxist construct that is the WNBA. The only talents there before her arrival were Welfare Queens and Hood Rats which fit the WNBA model just fine. That is because almost all of them would dip on being an American when told to do so. Since no one asked, the entropion (lower eyelid) surgery went smoothly this morning. Was m/l awake while they worked on me - a little weird, but painless. Sore after the anesthesia wore off, and looks a bit like a black eye, but I already can tell that it worked - the lower lid no longer curls inward, scratching my eyeball with the lashes.
A year ago, I delayed having this done because I was wary of surgery. After major bowel surgeries in October and April, this seemed almost trivial. Before, the whole thing of prep & surgery & recovery might have freaked me out a bit, but it was all familiar routine today. And no ten-day hospital stay this time; in and out in about two & 1/2 hours. Just one more little scar to add to my lifetime collection. Altogether, I'm glad to be alive in this century. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon Correct. Earth's magnetic field doesn't move (much), which is why a compass always points north. A stationary wire in a static field doesn't have a current induced in it; either the field or the wire have to move. And thermodynamics is a heartless bitch, so the energy you spend to move the wire has to be greater than the electrical energy you'd gain from moving it. If this could work--if earth's spin and the field's were different--it would deorbit the satellite because both the earth and the satellite would slow down to make electricity. Though only one would be measurably slower. Posted by: mikeski at October 01, 2024 12:14 AM (DgGvY) 477

1: realize that the people who are willing to discuss it, and have insight they are willing to share are often nug-bucking futs even if they have valid inputs 2. realize that even if they have valid insights, it is important NOT to join them in being nug-bucking futs as well; and c) getting on with your life. -------------------- One rude thing I learned about generators and their output. What they are rated at is what they do. It's not like a gasser where you can force a little more. It's got a red line, you cross it and it drops out. On those compressors rate it at the start up amps not the running amps. That's the extent of my knowledge. Oh, my well pump had a two wire system not a three wire pump. OK that means it took three time the amperage not double that a three wire would take. Good luck. Posted by: Helena Handbasket at October 01, 2024 12:43 AM (FnneF) For me, a whole-house generator is overkill. I don't need a lot electricity. Water heater and range are gas, so is hot-water heating system. The only electric it needs is a few watts for the control transformers, and about a hundred watts for the circulating pump. I have a 3500 watt ancient Coleman genset in the garage, powered by an 8 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. I have a "death cord" made up to plug it into the welder outlet in my garage. In the event of a power failure that looks like it might be lengthy, I pull the main switch at my pole, and lock it out. Then drag the generator out onto the concrete apron outside the garage door, and plug it into the welder outlet. Fire up the generator, and throw the breaker... The floods from Helene, in a short version, were Instantly Glacial in effect.
Occurring over a day and a half, and not centuries, they still carved valleys, deposited tens of feet of earth on previously lower elevations, and changed the topographies they'd touched, forevermore. Wiping out vast swaths of established civilized areas as they passed though, was just the nature of Nature. Which does not give a damn about me, you or them. Whole house generator.
The week without power after the last Houston-area hurricane (which was just bad wind here) was the final straw. Generac, about $15k. Around a five- to six-month waitlist at that time. Will be installed this November. Of course, if you get flooded the way these poor bastards have been, your whole house generator may be under water. If you get a portable you can get an outside plug installed that lets you switch over to the generator much more easily - no extension codes out a window or whatever. Of course some of the big boys, like a local fire station and cop shops have that setup. Large Kw capacity and big diesel tanks. That will cost as much as a house...

For me, here in Galveston, Generac is a huge NOPE!!!
Hurricane Ike, 2008. All natural gas service on the island, kaput for about six weeks, on average. Propane tanks? Would have floated away in the flood! LOL. Answer. Water cooled, skid mounted, 3 cylinder Diesel genny, mounted on steel frame 6 ft. above ground. 100+ gal fuel tank, mounted 7 ft. above ground, above 150 gal. steel catch tank as it's foundation. Pro-tip. Invest in or contract to, having the equipment to "sweeten" the fuel in the tank on an annual basis. Diesel might like to grow mildew. This, eliminates, that. I can buy a solid, skid mounted, water cooled, 3 cyl diesel generator for under $10k, easy.
Any of your local welders can build the elevated frame, and many will have the means to hoist the genny up onto the thing, when ready. Fuel tank listings show them already ON the frames, ready to deliver. Build a simple frame shack/roof to cover the genny. Even if the storm strips the frame, it'll be shielded from weather, as it waits. Not only will diesel give a higher energy density. You'll find it FAR EASIER to source a refill, when you need it the most. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at October 01, 2024 01:13 AM (kQgoX) 589

Years ago, when my cousin was running part of the show at GSP NWS, he gave me a tour of their Doppler radar facility. Just been built. Now this was mission critical. The power system needed to be 100 % reliable, no fail.
Huge UPS the size of a trailer running radar. That was just enough to tide it over until the diesel generators could spin up. Had to have two or three generators each capable of running entire load. Fail tolerance for the generators. They had problems upon testing.Huge UPS pulled very nonlinear, non sine current waveform. That messed up the gen voltage and freq regulation. Power would go dirty, UPS would trip back on battery. Power would get clean, UPS switch back and start cycle again. They had to filter the hell out the UPS I put as best they could and modify the gen regulators as well to handle that It was a major thing. that harmonic problem is well understood and dealt with now Posted by: Publius on Stupid Phone at October 01, 2024 02:33 AM (TITsU) 630
