Things That Go Hump in the Night Cafe

autumsuburb.jpg

Dog works at the dentist's, comforting children.

"Baby" wombat looks like he could drive a truck.

Cat wake-up attack.

Sniffing out the weird new kid.

That's not a motorhome Now that's a motorhome.

The guardian dog can't guard himself from baby goats.

People try to take video of a white tiger but get photobombed by a donkey who thinks he's a star (and I think he's right).

Rock-paper-scissors, extreme edition.

Dog can sense the baby in its mother's belly.

Golden retriever learning how to be a volleyball star.

Poor dog! When your "guard dog" is a scaredy-cat. (IG)

When your dog won't let you water the lawn. (IG)

This is the weirdest bird. (IG)

Dog is living that Trump Life. (IG)

I had a store pizza that said it had olive oil on it. It wasn't just brushed on the freaking crust but it must have been infused throughout all of the dough. It began dripping and burning on the bottom elements of my electric stove, setting off the alarm and a black grime puddle on the bottom. Had to freaking clean the whole oven.

11 Evening.

Another day, another prescription.

I'm 44. Honestly, it's not that I'm taking so many prescriptions now, it's that they're all so freakin' *expensive*.

I swear, I think these docs just get more money for prescribin' things than anything.

13 Thanks, Ben Had. Snark aside, it's been great. Couple more days, then back to reality. Scampywife and I may retire because of this trip. We shall see. Miklos, Javems, and CBD tuned us simpletons in to some amazing places. Ciampo, with some niceties in Rome, too. Horde with a big and helpful assist.

I live in Brunswick county, NC, and the weather is frequently a great pain in the a$$. Last week, we had what has been described as a "thousand-year event", with between 15 and 20 inches of rain being dumped in less than 24 hours as a result of a cyclone off the coast. More water than I even saw during the three hurricanes we've experienced here.

If only we had a guy deep within the FDR administration that talked about it, from an insider perspective. Or better yet - wrote some of it down. Of course, if this guy had a business education - that would be even better yet.

Except if his name was Morganthau. That would be the cat's ass as far as understanding how a presidential fixation on Communism didn't work and had to be stopped. That would be EXTREMELY helpful.

I hope people have gotten over assuming that any of these DOJ types are the slightest bit honest let alone oozing integrity.

Old Rod Rosenstein must be back to raking in bucks and enjoying his payoffs for continued FISA warrants that kept his corrupt communist buddies from having to deal with a perhaps (but unlikely) emboldened GOP. But his work at King Spaulding will keep him flush with hunds and may give him access to Trump data: "The firm "advises Donald Trump's real estate empire", according to one report which also cited the American Civil Liberties Union on the subject. Further, the firm enjoys a rich revolving door of senior government officials who elect to join or rejoin the firm's partnership following premier roles in United States public service; these officials include Sally Yates, Rod Rosenstein, Zachary T. Fardon, and many others.

The NWS web sites can be maddeningly hard to navigate some times (just ain't intuitive) and the behavior varies from regional site to regional site, but here's the GSP hourly forecast page:

https://tinyurl.com/27w5jdog

Click on your location on the map, and it will give you 48 hr predictions for the variables. Look at wind speed/gusts and precipitation totals.

For any of you others in the path of this thing, but not in the GSP forecast area, you'll have to go to your regional office, and that above map will likely be different to navigate to.

The USN grounds or collides with other ships every year. Some years are worse than others.

After exhaustive investigation, it is found that, almost always, the problem is a known issue or mistake done once again. The same issues show up again and again.

We have no margin for losing operational ships from the fleet. Our ship handling training program was for shit until very recently. We also lost a lot of expertise due to personnel mismanagement, COVID vaccine stupidity, and burn out.

271 We can discuss this, but the biggest problems to solve are at the national leadership level. My peeps have punched well above their weight in the county and local level here. We can be a life boat locally, but the national level is where it is the most dire.

Posted by: NaCly Dog at September 25, 2024 09:33 PM (u82oZ)

What can not sustain ... won't.

I don't spend much time worrying about how to save the national level. Or the political parties at the national level. Or those that get excited about political parties at the national level.

273 IIRC the USS Connecticut hit a submarine mount that wasn't previously mapped. Undersea maps are difficult to produce. You need a lot of sonar mapping info. And then it has to be processed. Sometimes it takes multiple passes. Years of work. More years to make it into a usable system for a sub/ship.

Yet, what went down was akin to driving a car with the windows blacked out on an unknown road at 80MPH with someone with a flashlight looking to see if you were still on the road.

And the flashlight was out of batteries.

276 We could spend more money.
We spent a million.
So lets spend a billion.
Thats more than we have
We will borrow 999 million more than we have and add it to the GDP as growth.
But no real work is done.
The value of more work than realized, added to the GDP will create a new value of no real work that make a new growth.
And that is called economics.

Do you think Oprah moves the the line? Not a bit. Do you think tata moves the line? Less than a bit.
There is no one less important in life than the person moved by an actor. The more you see the line move for a celeb the more you are moving and thinking it is a movement.

316 Seems like this comes up every year or so. In 1707 British Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell ran his entire fleet onto the Scilly rocks in the English Channel. They all sank. In 1923 seven US Navy destroyers ran up onto the rocks off Honda Point California. The whole flotilla. For a generation, it was called Destroyer Point.

Some of us let on we've spent a whole career at sea without ever realizing that fucking boats are dangerous. It must have been those wymynz! And every damned year, it's like you just heard it for the first time.
