I'm simply not interested in electric cars. They are just white goods. They're washing machines, they're microwave ovens. And you can't review those, you can't enjoy them. They are just shit.” Jeremy Clarkson

Will "Big Bank" cave into the climate crazies?

Major banks are being urged to stop financing the global farming industry as part of an effort to force limits on the general public’s meat and dairy consumption.

A collective of over 100 climate groups, led by Friends of the Earth, is pressuring JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and other private banks to stop financing global meat and dairy companies.

According to a report from Agriculture Dive, the groups argue that the institutions’ lending activities undermine their environmental commitments.

An open letter from groups to some of the world’s biggest banks calls for a halt on any new financing that expands industrial livestock production.

The banks are being pressured to add requirements that meat, dairy, and feed clients disclose their climate action plans.

Speaking of EVs. My proposal to stop EV fires? Stop building them.

The Auto Industry Finally Has a Plan to Stop Electric Vehicle Fires
EVs can burn for days, firefighters have little or no training to deal with them, and conventional equipment isn’t effective. But new technology is being developed that should make all the difference.

Last month, a Mercedes Benz EQE 350 electric vehicle caught fire in a South Korean apartment building’s underground parking garage. Reportedly, 23 people were sent to the hospital and approximately 900 cars were damaged. The fire reached temperatures of more than 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit (1,500 degrees Celsius), and took firefighters almost eight hours to extinguish.

The incident led to a series of swift policy changes in the country, including the acceleration of a planned EV battery certification program and new rules in Seoul that should prevent owners from “overcharging” their vehicles in underground parking garages. It has also pushed automakers to do something they wouldn’t normally: reveal who makes the batteries inside their electric cars. (In early September, the South Korean government said it would require automakers to disclose this often secret information.)

Better late than never.

GREAT BEND, Kan. -- More than 44 years after a nursing student was slain in her trailer home in central Kansas, her former neighbor has been sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison for killing her.

The investigation into the Jan. 24, 1980, shooting death of Mary Robin Walter, 23, of Great Bend, had gone cold until 2022, when a detective persuaded Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir to reopen the case and use technology and techniques that weren't available at the time.

The new evidence pointed to Steven L. Hanks, who was 25 at the time and had been a suspect early on. The Kansas Attorney General's Office said in a statement Friday that it was Hanks' admission in new interviews that allowed authorities to charge him in 2022, when he was living in Burden, Kansas.

JD Vance acknowledges the cat and dog stories are urban legends and then rationalizes it (via CNN): “If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that's what I'm going to do."

JD Vance @JDVance 10h
A dishonest smear.

I didn't invent constituents complaining about this. We did help create the media focus on their complaints.

Frank Luntz @FrankLuntz 10h
JD Vance admits he made up claims (“create stories,” his words) of Haitian migrants eating people’s pets in Springfield, Ohio to make the media pay attention.

Greg Price @greg_price11 10h
Here's a suggestion: How about you tell the truth and play the full clip where JD does not say that he created the story and that it's about getting the media to pay attention to Springfield.

Told this story on the ONT a couple of weeks ago, so sorry if you're reading it again. I saw Johnny Rivers in a hole in the wall bar in Columbus, Georgia, in 1982, when his career was at a point where he was playing hole in the wall bars in Columbus, Georgia. He put on a show like he was playing to a crowd of thousands. We didn't deserve it. What I took away from that was that there are some people who just love what they do, and Johnny Rivers loves to perform.

Harems are fun. What dork doesn't imagine himself surrounded by beautiful women who all love and adore him? I feel this is universal.
All the rest? Um...Japanese are just weird, man.
Posted by: Robert

The...logistics could be difficult, I would imagine. Women DO get jealous, ya know...
Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia)

Wasn't "Three's Company" the original harem comedy? One guy, multiple girls, and he can't get with any of them for plot reasons. So it's not entirely an anime thing. They just turned it up to 11 111.

Also, the "logistics" worked out in one show this season. "Pseudo Harem" is a..... deconstruction, I guess?..... of the harem genre. It's about a girl in her high-school drama club who falls for a boy in the club, and decides to practice her acting skills by taking on a bunch of archetypical harem roles and becoming his one-girl harem. He refers to her by which personality she's playing at the time; "impish," "spoiled," "cool," etc.

The oddly-voiced Kennedy scion phoned me while I was waiting to pick up Klaus Kinski from the groomer. Vern, he began (he knew me not and yet still presumed to use this cognomen), I need your help. Bobby J, I told him, I know of your perverse dynasty, so do not even bother. If you need a cleaner, call Winston Wolfe. Please, Deutsch auteur, he pleaded, your documentary talents are required. How much are we talking, friend-o was my response. The sky is the limit, he intoned. I must craft a campaign film. Look at the materials provided by the US government Helsinki Commission or the Hudson Institute.

They like to pretend that there are vast populations of oppressed minorities in Russia waiting for liberation from the Russian yoke, even though the Russian Federation is actually 80% Russian. There is less ethnic diversity in Russia than in the United States or France.

303 Entering the Kennedy family compound back then was difficult. I had to distract Teddy by chucking a Smirnoff bottle off into the nearby forest and commanding him to fetch. Then came the required fist-fight with Rose Kennedy. She had a mean left hook, and knew her place around a liver punch. Much blood and not a few teeth were spilled, and Werner's left eye was nearly swollen shut, making subterfuge necessary. Look, I shouted, is that not a daughter whom you have yet to lobotomize? Rose, already lining up where the procedure would be done, gazed where I was gesturing. This was Werner's cue to land a hard right on the button of Rose's jaw, and down she went. Standing above her unconscious form, I told her that, were she a human female and not an unnatural blood beast, I would be sorry. I offered to dig up old Joe Kennedy and offer him the same, and left her my card.

A joyous Maria Schriver rushed over and embraced me. We have awaited this day for decades, she gushed, delivering a few vicious kicks to Rose's ribs as she did so. Although she was betrothed to an Austrian, I was respectful. Where may I find Bobby J, I queried. One last post, ach.

As people have noted, this is more likely a CIA operation than Ukraine.

OTOH, there was a story in the New York Times a few weeks ago that the Ukrainians were planning a terrorist attack in Russia so horrific that not only did we tell the Ukrainians not to do it, but we actually warned the Russians about it (so we would not be blamed if it happened).

I wondered whether it was a planned WMD attack.

347 Maria indicated a nearby tennis court, where RFK jr. was hosing off a snookered Teddy. What up, I inquired? Bobby beamed at me and turned the hose over to his rape-hobbyist relative. Vern, I need you to capture me giving a thoughtful gift to one of my neat-human children. He had his Rolls brought around, and off we went. During our drive, the Bobster halted to pick up the carcass of a Golden Retriever that met a semi and had not lived to tell the tale. I was dealing with a Kennedy, and registered no surprise. Then we reached our destination, a zoo. Bobby called me to roll tape, and then proceeded to batter a giraffe into the afterlife with a crowbar. Then came the decapitation. For good measure, he offed a sloth as well. The kid likes animals, said he. So did we return to the Kennedy compound with the head of a giraffe ornamenting the roof of the Rolls and the corpses of a dog and sloth sharing the back seat. The birthday party was underway. A triumphant RFK climbed out and told Werner that this required the best shot I could provide. And so I did. Five, precisely, while I had him in a headlock. Backhanding a wavering Teddy, I left. Even Werner has limits. Ach.

But then, (as only in LA) about 2 miles on our course, I noticed the red Dodge charger with black fat stripes thudding along the next lane right about 55 and just has my son came abreast...STOMPED the throttle (Which made ol Nightwatch bout loose his bladder) scream forward and then cut my son off with a lane change just in front of our right bumper while I turned the air absolutely BLUE with cuss words.

My son did not flinch, and as that scum bag zoomed off up the freeway he commented..."So is that what the freeways are like during the week?"

depends on the cat, it means he is relaxed and happy. I have an old tortie that I have had since she was weaned and she never learned to purr right, she sort of breathes heavy. When they are really relaxed they stick their tongues out.

Took out the useless third seat belt for the middle passenger. Fuggedaboudit, this is a two-seater car. Mounting the passenger side seat will have to wait until I bash down the big hump in the floor that was made to provide room for the catalytic converter, which is MIA. The transmission is bad, and will have to be replaced. I have a rebuilt 700R4 transmission on a dolly in my shop, and since it is a sunk cost, it makes sense to use it, and it is a definite upgrade for the car. I can massage the floor when the transmission is out, and then fabricate a new rear crossmember to fit the new transmission.

And I put it on the hoist, and removed a rear brake drum to check the brakes. Not fully worn out, but past their prime, and the drum was grooved. Machined the drum, and it miked out at .090 over. New drums and shoes ordered...

Ukraine's Unwinnable War: The Fatal Flaw of Democracy, World Abandonment and the Global Citizen-Taiwan, Afghanistan, North Korea and the end of Humanity

Two reviews so far:

It just didn’t hit the mark.

While Mr. Routh had a clear aim in this book, it just did not hit the way it was supposed to.

Posted by: The ARC of History! at September 16, 2024 12:37 AM (uxCna)

456 Mr. Routh's summary (in part):

As the Taliban is committing genocide and killing the majority of the Afghan population; we have 5900 Afghan soldiers ready to deploy to Ukraine and we have 10,000 of the Syrian free army(less 67 killed in the earthquake last week) that Ukraine and the US refuses to allow and coordinate them to go and fight in Ukraine. After spending five months in Ukraine I began to realize that it was impossible for Ukraine to win this war and that the world should not have grand thoughts that it is possible.

I presume that I must be clear, that while on the current path Ukraine will not win, it is imperative for the world that they do win, and that is why this book is so important, for us all to recognize that losing is not an option and what we must do to win. I obviously did not write this to make any money, as that is totally unimportant; the extremely important issue is that we openly discuss daily the major issues that face Ukraine and what we each must try to do to fix them. This is a conflict of global importance and the outcome will affect us each and every one for the rest of the world.

Now I understand why Trump doesn't want any more debates. LOL!

Bret Weinstein has said he doesn't think they'll allow Trump to become president again, whoever they are, even if he wins. (See Jamie Snakeskin's 'we won't certify the election if he wins' insurrection-ny interview.) It's looking more and more like that just might be the case. TPTB, The Deep State, whatever, cannot allow us ever again to make a selection not of their choosing. Who do we think we are, a free people or something? Like I said before, I believe Trump when he says there are evil forces arrayed against him (like the pedo child abuse/sacrifice group that is only too happy with open borders and missing children). I also believe it when he says they're not after him, they're after us, he's just in the way. The over-charging/sentencing of J-6 defendants vs. not charging 2020 BLM rioters proves that to be true, too.

Our Republic has devolved into a kakistocracy, "a government run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens."

They've figured out how to pay themselves from the public purse. And if it takes a war in Ukraine and a few lot of dead Americans to do so, well, nothing is too good for our political grifters.

That's not a "mistake". It's "collateral damage". If the IDF does not know the hostages are present in a target area, they are under no constraints as to destroying it. The guilt for their death rests with Hamas, who put them in Harm's way. Par for the course; brave Hamas fighters hiding behind the skirts of women and children.

Love Pogo.

It's amazing how our collective memories suddenly forgot that Ukraine has been corrupt for a long time. And also the war doves in the democrat party forgot they were supposed to be anti war, and turned into war hawks. 521 Depends on the location... actually, the species. Eastern deer - whitetails - are much more people tolerant than western deer - blacktails and mule.
In PA, had a whitetail doe overwinter in a 1 acre or thereabouts woodlot across the street. We'd see her regularly from the front porch.
Here in AZ, I'll see the occasional mule deer, but the density is way less - a lot of empty space around my house.

PS, in case you didn't know the Ukraine International Legion is CIA.

@MaxBlumenthal

Would-be Trump shooter Ryan Routh has published a 291 page book, “Unwinnable War,” about his time in Ukraine’s Int’l Legion

Routh says he’d like to see Putin assassinated, seems to hope for Trump’s assassination as well, and calls for the US to “instigate” a nuclear war with Russia

Stating he’s neither a Democrat or Republican, Routh’s clearly articulated mindset toward Russia mirrors that of Beltway hardliners. He offers gushing admiration for Juan Guaido, the Free Syrian Army, Myanmar rebels, and other CIA backed forces, while hinting at a friendship with MSNBC natsec hack and fellow International Brigade member Malcolm Nance.

552 Wolfus--

It's totally OK to take a day off from time to time.

553 You know it's early when you've already had breakfast, are slugging down your coffee, and the ONT is still the thread at the top of the heap.

Mornin' Horde.

554 Oh, yeah; this is technically the final week of summer, huh? Saturday or Sunday is the equinox? Not that we'll notice anything improving here.

Good advice. But if I don't go today, I'll need to work out tomorrow, and I usually take it easy on Tuesday am after the first day at work.

556 I can at least get off the couch and do my stretches and calisthenics. Then see if my workout enthusiasm has returned.

There ya go! Compromise... do a partial workout at least. Alleviate the guilt, LOL.

They still got, what?, 7 weeks to get a proper hit done. Plenty of time for Nikki Haley to save the Neocon day.

565 I don't find too much enjoyable about winter any longer.
Also tired of mowing lawns, doing leaves and clearing snow, to the extent that I contracted all of it this year to see if it can be done to my satisfaction.
