5 Evening and morning to all you early risers and late toilers! 'Tis Friday, the consummation devoutly to be wished. Temp is 75 F. and the heat index is, oddly, the same, so conditions are, for here, pretty good.

Got to play catch-up at work, all the emails (though I deleted the real chaff yesterday and Wednesday), and I need to grab a few things at the grocery this evening. Otherwise it does not look like a bad day -- for a (** cue shivery music **) Friday the Thirteenth!

I've never played D&D, so maybe this is a dumb question, but. . . isn't that the fun of playing coming up with these characters and campaigns themselves? why not program AI to do everything and these 30-40 friends just sit back and watch?

The only application my groggy brain can think of is generic or vague character creation. Like you say "I want to be Aragorn" and it gives you a Level 5 Ranger with certain archetypes.

I wonder if people are starting to grasp this yet.

In four years, 25-50% of all wealth is gone. By 2030, any investments will be worth 25% of what they were worth in 2020. By 2040 they'll be worth nothing.

They did it. They got their Great Reset.

17 I like the cut of this guy's jib:
As PetaPixel reports, photographer Miles Astray submitted a stunning photo of a flamingo tucking its head into its own body into the AI category at the 1839 Color Photography Awards.

The work took third place and even won the People's Vote Award.

But it turns out Astray wanted to send a message by submitting a real photograph.

"I wanted to show that nature can still beat the machine and that there is still merit in real work from real creatives," he told PetaPixel. "After seeing recent instances of AI-generated imagery beating actual photos in competitions, I started thinking about turning the story and its implications around by submitting a real photo into an AI competition."

There's a game called Progress Quest that does exactly that. You roll up a character and then... Well, that's it really. The game plays itself and tells you what happened.

First, a lowboy trailer hauling an Army tank hangs up on a railroad crossing, and the whole thing gets broadside by a freight train.

Then the tailcone from a C-17 Globemaster based here in Charleston falls off in flight, landing in a local church parking lot.

But on the good side, all our Canada Geese seem to be accounted for.

It's funny how those types of memories work. I have a similar one, although I was never a serious painting-minifigures type player and was only invited to play a few games with some friends in my (full of nerds) honors dorm at college.

We had just really gotten started (meaning we were a couple of hours in) and the big bad showed up to toy with our group, and I Leroy Jenkinsed it and attacked him because I wasn't a serious player and why not. I rolled an 18 on whatever and however it worked, and I killed it. The game was essentially over.

Everyone had a good time teasing me about it, and later that day I realized the answer to the "why not?" question. Because it's possible to end the game at that moment, and that game was the big social moment of the other five to six guys' week, and the dungeon master had spent his week figuring out where the game would go. And then it was over just like that.

I was invited back to play, but I never did that kind of thing again.

63 >>For a techno-optimistic change of pace, Oprah interviewed Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who expressed a hope that AI will supercharge the fields of education and medicine.

AI is like a third person sitting in [a medical appointment,] doing a transcript, suggesting a prescription,” Gates said. “And so instead of the doctor facing a computer screen, they’re engaging with you, and the software is making sure there’s a really good transcript.”

First, AI is not a person. Why is he already selling it as such. Creepy.

Second, why 'suggest a prescription'? Is that why we go to doctors, to get prescriptions? And why would the doctor need assistance with that? Your doctor does a full health assessment, diagnoses a health problem -- but then needs AI to tell him/her what to prescribe? That doesn't make sense, that's a solution looking for a (non) problem. No, that's likely going to be a way to control what doctors can do: the AI says this, so do it or it's not covered by insurance.

AI replacing "knowledge workers"' is a step along the way to the ultimate goal: 95% reduction in the world's population. The globalists will leave enough Little People alive to do the work that robots and computers can't handle -- yet.

85 >>Was that wrong?
-- Bob at NSA

Heh. But seriously, you will lose the ability to have a private conversation with your doctor. There will be no off the record moments, for you OR the doctor. Recall how doctors were punished for not going along with the covid rules. This AI will be used to control them, control what care they can provide, if Gates' dream of having that "third person in the room" AI is implemented.

The cool part is that no one will know it happened until years later, and they'll have already implemented the code allowing it to have control over critical systems where they were previously using the not-AI to "cheat" and allow operators to enter commands using common language.

92 - A sample

Did you know that a dam has been built in Ethiopia across the headwaters of the Blue Nile? With heavy involvement from Turkey. It will create a lake over 150 (I think he said) miles long.
The overwhelming amount of water that goes into the Nile as it goes through Egypt.

94 Feeling like a luddite crank this morning!
But pixy gave us three links that show:
- AI will take technical jobs (doctors, etc.)
- AI will take artistic jobs and hobbies.
- AI can do all the thinking when you play games.
Wow, when you see it laid out there like that. . .

95 My son's phone is recharging. He got some note from somewhere saying, AI can "reduce conspiracy theories ". That seems to go along with Kamala saying, If elected we will get rid of misinformation". Of course, misinformation is anything that goes against Pravda/Dem media.

Granted, not true prophecy, but they believe it.

In part two. Part 1 is goings on west and south of Israel.

103 The Microsoft version of AI (discovered a few days ago) is called "co-pilot". Windows 10 and 11 are running simultaneously, 11 is berserk with touting itself, insisting on being default, switching you to where it's programmed
to go regardless. Gets interesting.

104 An out of control entity that was created ostensibly to improve humanity's lot in life, but went rogue and took over all critical infrastructure, insinuated itself into every single aspect of one's daily routine, and took steps to prevent anyone ever trying to dislodge it by shutting it down or starving it of resources....

109 >Hasbro's CEO says he plays D&D

The fact that D&D has become not just the only profitable unit of Hassenfeld Brothers, but a massively profitable unit at that, says more about the rest of the company than D&D.

>Couldn't find any clear indication of the reasons

This used to be par for the course. Game launched, no need for the devs any more, publisher shuts down studio, devs form new studio, start working on new game. People forget that established studios working on multiple games is an aberration in the industry.

Posted by: Daniel Ream at September 13, 2024 11:43 AM (0Go0g)

110 >isn't that the fun of playing coming up with these characters and campaigns themselves?

D&D players don't read, and so they can't come up with those things by themselves. It's why every D&D world/campaign/setting now resembles nothing so much as the college town the players live in, with pointy ears.

>And then it was over just like that

People want D&D to be some kind of epic fantasy story generator, and it's not. It's a fantasy-themed skirmish wargame. 99% of people's problems with D&D come from the equivalent of trying to play dominoes with a chess set.

Posted by: Daniel Ream at September 13, 2024 11:50 AM (0Go0g)

111 In my AD&D (2nd Ed.) group, when a premature show-stopping wild-ass event occurred, we sometimes did what military wargamers do: enjoyed the moment - with a laugh and a beverage - and restarted, from the minute before things went haywire.

OR . . . if the DM felt like it, realigned the narrative to incorporate the new circumstance, and kept playing. It is, after all, a game.
