Where would we be with the interwebs, HORDE? I think I personally would be in better shape. But that’s beside the point. It is a great way to not-to-do yard work, no?

Searching “extreme flight” or “extreme flying” interestingly brings up the radio-controlled model airplane “hobby”. I use quotes there because the folks that are involved in that activity are very serious players and spend shocking amounts of bongo bucks in the pursuit of wearing the mantle “most extreme”.

EXTREMEFLIGHTRC brings you directly into their world of really big models and featured products. For example, you can get an entry level jet powered model for a reduced price of only $3299.99! It doesn’t stop there, of course, because there are servos, tools, radios, controllers and other stuff to add. I have to admit, watching the experienced guys employ their skills makes for good viewing.

Then there’s “ludicrous scale” like this 55% scale Stearman. This is a 12-minute video, but you don’t have to listen long to get an idea of how realistic these things are to their full-scale inspiration.

Then there are the guys who reproduce the military airplanes with incredible attention to detail. Some of the models are so good I think they could be used to create movie scenes from other times. There are budget models available from various retail outlets like MOTIONRC and TOWER HOBBIES.

Mentioning the “bongo bucks” at the start, one can easily imagine that this could become very expensive very quickly. I’m not sure how much this poor guy had sunk into his beautiful 1:2 scale SAAB GRIPEN, but he obviously needs to rethink some engineering and fabrication processes.

Ouch! Back to the bench for you!

Talking about “extreme flying” should include “wingsuits”. I’ve never seen these guys in person, but watching the videos makes me think less of flying and more of insanity…but that’s just me. Jokke Sommer is a Norwegian skydiver and blogger who posts some extreme stuff.

Actually, I should have typed “posted” because his last you tube video was posted four years ago. I don’t know for sure, but an event like this would surely dampen my enthusiasm: Three Killed In Wingsuit Flying Accident.

Dan Vicary, Ludovic Woerth, and Brian Drake had jumped from a helicopter for a flight in the Lüetschental valley in Switzerland, but soon after, crashed into a field. While Vicary and Woerth were found dead, Drake passed away four days later… According to a 2012 study by Omer Mei-Dan, a stuntman-turned-surgeon, 72% of jumpers have witnessed the death or serious injury of other participants, 43% have suffered a significant BASE jump injury, and 76% have had at least one near-miss incident.

Uh…did you get that? “Stuntman-turned-surgeon,”. Okay. There’s a whole lot in that brain that I don’t understand. I’ll admit those guys have a true sense of commitment to the hobby. That stuff makes landing on the pitching deck of an aircraft carrier on a pitch-black night seem mundane, eh?

If none of that floats your boat…uh, launches your jet…there’s always Extreme Flight Simulation.

Our simulator exactly reproduces the flight deck of the 737 NG. The seats, throttles, switches, pedals and yokes are original parts of the real aircraft…This simulator is classified as a FBS (Fixed Based Simulator) type that when paired with the unique High Definition 220˚ wraparound screen creates the 'as real as it gets' feeling.”

Speaking of extreme, does this strike anyone as extremely dumb?

phones.jpg

The picture was purportedly taken in Hinan, China after “Super Typhoon Yagi” came ashore.
A little more than an hour after Yagi's arrival, Hainan saw power outages that affected 830,000 households in the province, the official news agency Xinhua said… By Friday night, power to 260,000 households had been restored.

Awesome! Only 570,000 households to go! It is well known that China is the world’s leading digital society where the population doesn’t use cash and is monitored and controlled 24/7. So, if there’s no electricity with which to charge the phone, how does one buy anything? Or call for help? Or watch extreme flying you tube videos? Asking for a friend.

Still speaking of extreme, a new book by Kirk Spradley just came out, War Junkie-A cautionary tale. The author has a unique story and an amazingly diverse career as a war fighter. There are many great books by many great veterans, but Kirk has made his book unique in a way seldom seen. After the book cleared the government vetting and censoring, Kirk decided to retain all the redactions in the text. Seeing that blacked out text seems to add to the story, not detract. The language is salty, and the story will take you from humor to horror. It’s a fast and instructive read. (Full disclosure: Kirk is a friend and brother.)

Finally, “yard pron”. I think they grossed out the Hummingbirds because I haven’t seen any little birds since this sketchy couple set up housekeeping.

yardbug.jpg

Stay frosty, HORDE!

22 So, if there’s no electricity with which to charge the phone, how does one buy anything?

They could go get bread from the shop, and have the shopkeeper take a paper tally of what they bought, and when they have their phone charged again, they can go back and pay.

Or they could skip a step, and keep a tally of their own funds on special pieces of paper provided by the government, and use those instead. Maybe they could call that paper "mani," or "birrs," or something like that.

Redactions

I have a copy of the WWII diaries of author James Gould Cozzens, written during his service at the Pentagon. Interspersed are some memos written by Cozzens on various goings-on in the Army Air Corps.

These are redacted and it's a passing pleasure to try to learn what's under them. In one case, despite his bravery, it's clear the brass thought very little of Colonel John Kane, who won the MoH during the Ploesti Raid.

Similar to how a business can refuse to take payment in bags of pennies, or refuse to take $100 for a $3 purchase.

There may be state laws (MA, NJ) or city codes that require private parties to accept cash.

Originally the bank notes were just that, issued by the bank on specie held by the bank.
There was a profession then of the man who would take the notes back to the bank to exchange them for gold, to balance out the accounts for the various banks. The banks would make that as difficult as possible since they generally issued more notes than they had reserves, and the men were despised because they often meant the local bank was about to be insolvent, especially if it had invested in property and shares of businesses as well, and didn't have the gold on hand.
Some banks were placed in hard to reach places and were called Wildcat banks, because they were so far out only the wildcats knew where they were,

175 One good thing about mantises:

I went to school in a city, and four friends rented an olf rowhouse to share.
The roaches were regnant, and one of the girls (who had grown up in a rural area) solved the problem by going out past the city and catching a mantis, which she brought home and let loose in the house.

One of the housemates told me he was watching when she let it loos in the kitchen, and the first thing it did was cock its head at something near the dranboard, fly over, snatch it and eat.

When you went to visit them, they'd warn newcomers to watch out for the bug, which could often be seen perched on a bookcase or curtain.

176 There is the story of the Potato Barrel bank of Morocco Indiana, which at the time consisted of a blacksmith shop and the house of the smith across the road. It is now a decent sized town. At that time many of the "wildcat" banks were out of state owners who would issue notes in other states so it would be hard to redeem by the express companies that would handle the clearing of the accounts. One expressman rode for a week to find the small settlement and its bank, and the banker, who was also the blacksmith, asked that the expressman spend the night so he could settle accounts during working hours and offered him dinner and a place to sleep. Seeing that the man was concerned about having thousands of dollars in paper money on him, he offered to put it in the vault of the bank, which turned out to be the potato barrel in the corner of his shack, which also held all the gold that the bank had in reserves. The smith advised him that it was the safest place for such funds to be found in all of Morocco, Indiana.

things like this is why, for example, the State of Oregon's original constitution forbade chartering of banks.

A few wrinkles, but the color match is good, and they a soft and supple. The backrest of the driver's seat had some big rents in the leather cover, so I cut patches from the vinyl skirting of the old cover, and tucked them under the edges of the remaining leather, using glue to keep them in place. I then filled some of the smaller gaps and wrinkles with gray silicone seal, which was not a good idea, as the gray was too light, and left pale blotches on the seat back. Maybe most of it will rub off...

Elon's next Starship test (which the feds are delaying) is going to test the "chopstick" catch of the booster. That will be something.

It will likely fail. They know this. That's how they learn. I read a good article about this. Elon is not afraid to fail, and blow shit up to learn and move forward.

There are two extremes. One is just jumping in and trying something without any idea what you're doing. The other is never trying something until you tested, simulated something ad nauseam, and end up taking forever. Even then, there's some things are going to happen that you did conceive of, and no amount of simulation is going to find that.

There's a happy middle, and Elon takes that route.

Granted, he should have stood up to them when they first demanded that he censor speech years ago, but he caved in after being threatened by the Federal government and their allies in private industry (Mike Benz said Facebook lost $60 billion in revenue over two days due to ads being pulled, IIRC).

I hope Zuckerberg finds the courage to stand up to these dirtbags.

I asked for $400 in twenties at the ATM the other day. This was a mistake, as the machine was not happy handling that thick of a stack of notes. When I pulled at the bills that emerged, half stayed stuck in the dispensing slot. I pulled out a few more, and then some more. Finally, I had just one firmly trapped in the machine. Then a timer started ticking down, telling me it was going to swallow my money. Using both hands, I was able to wiggle the last note out just before the rollers reversed to suck it back in.

275 Because I lack the cachet and perversities that Sir David possesses, I tried to tackle things in a more subdued, family-friendy fashion. Werner was able to sign up the estimable Katherine Hepburn to chase down and dispose of Salvador Dali, then devour his entrails. Kate was totally down for it, and no one had any issue with the termination of Salvador Dali, including his own family. Hell, even Dali himself admitted there was no way that he did not deserve such a fate.

After squaring off with Rottweilers to ready herself for the role, and getting some pointers from a Haitian houngan, Hepburn was ready to tackle the filming. To motivate her further (although truthfully, she was already very keen on the project) I told her that Dali felt that Audrey Hepburn was the superior actress of the two. So began the filming. Alas, though aware of his deserving no lesser fate, Salvador's fight or flight reflex kicked in. As he ran for the hills, all of us shouted, Please, abortion of a homunculus, return that we may put you out of our misery. Such cheerful words, yet Dali kept on fleeing. The project was a bust. Ach.

285 Border crossing "services" vary by location and company, er, int'l organized crime outfit, but I've heard $7K to $10K for some time now. Special interest aliens can pay a lot more - but their crossings are deluxe jobs - only certain locations, surveillance, night-time, a big operation. In the San Diego sector, at least part of it, the fee is mostly just an access fee to the "border" area.

And probably 95% of Americans who vehemently and sensibly oppose the erasure of the border and de facto suspension of any real immigration law have no idea how many $Billions of taxpayer money have facilitated the entire thing - flying people from all over the world, sometimes *directly into the US interior*, housing/herding them from Colombia through Central America and Mexico, etc.

If only the US had some mechanism for public policy to be challenged and changed, something like an independent branch of govt. with power of the purse, for example. Even - stay with me here - something like an opposition party.

296 So as I see it, based on the constructs of asymmetrical warfare, we have already been invaded by foreign armies in the guise of "immigrants" onto American soil.

They will filter into our towns and cities until they have the strength in numbers to begin insurgent operations. They will start in the fly over states first in an effort to literally split the Republic ( if it exists after 2024) in two.

Did that get your attention? Do you doubt this possibility?

As I noted above, getting from BFE to Colombia or Panama is often covered by "NGOs" (funded by you), housing/herding up to US border area likewise handled by "NGOs" (funded by you). Many of the migrants can come up with the border crossing fee (in fact, 100s of thousands, or millions, so far). Many are not impoverished, at least not to that extent.

It certainly seems to have been nuked, if you believe physicist
John Brandenburg and his research on 129Xe (Xenon 129):

"On Mars, the nearest Earthlike planet in the cosmos, the concentration of 129Xe in the Martian atmosphere, the evidence from 80Kr abundance of intense 1014/cm2 flux over the Northern young part of Mars, and the detected pattern of excess abundance of Uranium and Thorium on Mars surface, relative to Mars meteorites, can be explained as due to two large thermonuclear explosions on Mars in the past. Based on the pattern of thorium and radioactive potassium gamma radiation, the explosions were centered in the Northern plains in Mare Acidalium at approximately 50N, 30W, near Cydonia Mensa and in Utopia Planum at approximately 50N 120W near Galaxias Chaos, both locations of possible archeological artifacts. The xenon isotope mass spectrum of the Mars atmosphere matches that from open air nuclear testing on Earth and is characteristic of fast neutron fission rather than that produced by a moderated nuclear reactor."

You are dealing with people who literally cannot distinguish between a lethal weapon, say a handgun, and common benign objects, say a half eaten poptart. These people would call cops, men with real lethal weapons to confront a child with a poptart, or given the natural right to defend themselves, take out the kid with a poptart with a real gun.
BUT, they are insane and a danger to the community in that they cannot distinguish between what is real and imaginary and willing to use lethal force themselves (or lethal proxies - the cops) to attack their phantoms.
They should be housed in 'institutions' for the criminally insane.

371 One day at a time. Wishing peace to you & yours.

Tomorrow is going to suck-diddly-uck with the various appointments and school and such, but at least I know that going into it. Knowledge is power and all that jazz.

372 The a.m. soreness, I think, may come partly from the way I sleep, or maybe my mattress. It's twenty-seven years old, after all. I turn it, and it does not have dips or lumps, so who knows. Considering prices of everything now, my hair may turn white if I see how much a queen mattress goes for.

If cost is a huge concern, try putting a foam topper on your mattress. Not too expensive, and maybe get some relief?

White hair? LMAO... mine started turning in my 20's. Halfway there by 40s, fully white by the time I turned 50. "Embrace the suck" as we say.

Why, so you can roll tanks over them?

(Just kidding, thanks for the advice.)

375 Mornin' Horde. Guess I'll start my day with the ONT, which isn't a bad thing at all.

376 Let things cool off for a while, Pookysgirl, and then attempt a rational convo...

Worth a try, if all parties are willing.

379 You would be shocked by the ammount of time and money I have spent on RC aircraft since the late 70's. I have an entire ceiling with my finished gas and electric planes hanging,, lets not even get started on the one's I bought but haven't put together yet.

Better way to go than a suicide box. One last thrill?

My money says "legal tender." We need a political movement to protect our privacy. "No King but Jesus, but cash is king"
Calling Mr. Draper, we need a slogan.
