A Woman Dies at Her Desk and Is Found 4 Days Later; It Says Volumes About Our Lack of AUGUST 26--A Minnesota wedding photographer hid a camera in a bridal suite and surreptitiously recorded a woman--who was “in her underwear with her breasts exposed”--getting dressed for her nuptials, according to a criminal complaint. Police learned of the video voyeurism when the photographer’s wife recently provided them with a thumb drive containing the video, as well as “other sexual conduct material” that is not further detailed. Upon examining the video, investigators were able to identify the bride who was secretly filmed, as well as the wedding venue (The Barn of Chapeau Shores in Albert Lea, a city about 90 miles south of Minneapolis). The video, “taken from a very low angle,” was shown to the 27-year-old victim, who confirmed that she was the woman recorded. The victim identified Mitchell Ringness, 30, as the still photographer, adding that he was not hired to do “videography or boudoir photography.”"

The lawless left: A judge ruled this week that Vanderbilt student protester Jack Petocz, who was one of three who violently attacked and injured a security guard in the process of taking over a building on March 25, 2024, was not exercising his first amendment rights and can be prosecuted for assault and face an almost yearlong prison sentence. Judge Lynda Jones ruled during a preliminary hearing on Thursday that there was probable cause, and told Petocz he’s facing a possible jail sentence of up to 11 months and 29 days for the assault charge. Jones said Petocz may face more time if state prosecutors charge him with aggravated criminal trespass, a Class E felony.

In my inbox this morning was a notification from the state system that I have a "learning" assignment (that is, a required training video/quiz). OK. I log in. It's about 10 clicks to get to the "learning," which is a 2 page PDF and a 5 minute demo that could have been a 2 sentence email for anyone with an IQ higher than Kamala Harris.
The first notification went out Sunday and it was marked overdue Monday (a holiday). And I got a reminder to do the "learning" 5 hours after I completed it.
State government at its best. But I got a certificate!!!!

If it's the Tempe office that also contains one of their data centers then I've worked in that cube farm. High cube walls with narrow openings, barely wider than an office chair. Quite believable that someone could die in there and not be found for a while. You can walk right by one of those cubicles and not see if anyone is even there or not without expressly looking.
I think the idea was to prevent people from accidentally seeing sensitive data. Looks like it worked a little too well.

I'm not a doctor, but sometimes I play one on the Internet. I would think eating/drinking would depend on what part of your anatomy the CT scan is of. If it's your knee or noggin, probably OK. If it's your guts, maybe not. NOTE : This advice is worth precisely what you paid for it.

There is an Antifaette "journalist" who for years has engaged in theft, vandalism, assault, and similar activities, always without the slightest consequence, because she did them in Portland.
Then, in 2021, she decided to engage in assault and riot in a suburban Portland county.
Oops - no Soros DA there.
She kept putting the trial off, in the obvious hope that if she delayed long enough, the charges would be dropped.
Nope - she went to a jury trial, the deputy DA did a fine job and got her convicted, and she gets sentenced on Monday, with a high probability of a prison term.
She burst into tears when the verdict was announced - after years of being able to do whatever she wanted without consequences, I'm sure it was nightmarish that she was actually held accountable.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, that's four days, OMG, the callousness of our society!!!
Let's do a little reality check. She was working late Friday, and died after everyone, or almost everyone had left. If I was working late and someone else was inthe office as well, we didn't usually check out with each other. No callousness required. Saturday and Sunday no one was in the office, or at least didn't pass her cubicle. Her body was discovered early Monday.
No one ignored the rotting corpse for four days!
Jeez.

Wage employees, at least "they" will notice Right Away if someone didn't swipe out at the end of their shift because they are well into overtime hours and that kind of thing. "What time did you go home last night" will be the first words out of a supervisor's mouth. Maybe they don't look at stuff like that, but they probably should. Was she salaried, maybe they were looser with that. I can't help but think there was a computer login that should have been flagged.
I thought the last thing I heard was they were tracking everyone's mouse movements to ensure productivity, and in turn workers were downloading an App that would simulate actual computer work to avoid malingering, gold-bricking cubicle farm dwellers.

No big deal. A few first-term Congresscritters who haven't plugged into the grift yet live in their offices. Sleeping on a camp bed or a fold-up bed. They use showers in the Congressional Gym. When I worked at NASA in Houston I could have lived at work. I could have slept on couches in my building or in others, and showered and shaved at the employee rec center. It was open from 5 AM to 10 PM. I could go on- and off-site 24 hours a day. I could have kept clothes in my vehicle and changed in the rec center. I believe if I did this and was found-out, I would have been told to stop it. Nothing more.

Yes but only amongst family and friends. Meanwhile every receptionist, nurse, PA, etc. in any medical entity contacted as well as all employees of medical equipment retailers that are involved (think, wheelchairs, CPAPs, etc.) know your complete medical history. I haven't even mentioned medical insurance companies and Medicare workers as well as pharmacies.

Unless you work in HR, with access to insurance records, that's bullshit.
HIPPA is intended to protect medical RECORDS, as maintained by hospitals, medical practices and insurance companies. If you're not discussing information obtained from a source like that, it doesn't apply.
The only thing keeping employees from sitting around the lunch table comparing colonoscopies is a sense of decorum, not a federal law.

I worked projects that brought videoconferencing systems into operating rooms. Mostly teaching hospitals. When HIPPA became law, I was assured by more than one chief of network security (yes, it was a thing even before the Internet) that I could and would be personally liable if the live video of a procedure somehow leaked to a third party.
Maybe they were bluffing, but I did compare that experience to the scenario in which my boss in 2021 had his assistant call me to inquire as to my COVID vax status. I informed him that I would not be releasing my private medical information to him. I was tempted to point out that, according to my read of HIPPA, he was committing a felony simply by asking..

If, OTOH, you had to approve her sick leave request, and she tod you as you were initiating it, te answer is "Yes", because the sick leaveform is a medical record,and you obtained the info ancillary to its creation. Even overhearing it in that circumstance is a violation.

I have yet to comprehend why this insidious trend ever started in the first place. I do not ever remember in my lifetime thinking, 'I'd sure like to drink a steaming cup of pumpkin pie right about now'.
Hazelnut's just about the only flavor I want in my hot coffee, and not the liquid additive crap, either. (Iced flavors are great, a refreshing light milkshake in the hot summer; I never drink iced coffee in the winter, in fact it's getting to that early morning low temp stopping point, upper 50's-low 60's.)
