Roman water wheel (Noria) and aqueduct at Hama, in modern Syria.

I didn't realize they used wheels to fill the aqueducts. I guess I just assumed they diverted water from a (high elevation) river.

Last time I had it in the dream I thought “Wait, what degree am I getting? I’ve already got that degree. Also I’m retired now and really have no use for all this nonsense “. I don’t think I’ve had that dream since.

A few years ago, a couple of my co-workers were visiting a gold mine in Northern Ontario. It was -45 F outside, and you could spit and it would be frozen before it hit the ground. It was bone-numbing cold. I was up there 4-5 years ago in April, and there was still a lot of snow on the ground. The dead of winter must be nightmarish.

Some are, but the 6 we've had weren't. They might 'prefer' one hooman a bit, but they weren't protective of them toward other hoomans.

I never cared much for them before we got one for my wife, but they're actually pretty good dogs. Problems with a Chihuahua are almost always an owner problem.

Agreed. Not just small dogs, either. We have rescued 19 dogs over the years, and out of those, 5 have lost the use of their back legs near the end. All still enjoyed life, and could either walk with assistance or were happy to just sit on the lawn on a sunny day.

My first midterm was a C+ so I buckled down and got to the point where I really grocked the material. 400 student class, final exam had 10 bonus questions (1 point each) and the curve was to make the highest score 100 and scale from there. my dreams are far less coherent, go through a door and instantly is in another room in another city. Sometimes are tornadoes, but they don't act like them, they just are something you see that is mildly irritating and needs to be avoided. These are never the subject of the dream.

Once I was speaking with someone on a golf tee platform hitting balls out into the adjacent neighborhood of houses. The discussion was on an entirely different subject, the activity went without comment.

About 6 or 8 of them for the whole route, they could see what time you were at where you supposed to be, etc. This was a big deal, don't miss any scans. They put them in the blue collection boxes too, to ensure verification that every box had been picked up.

Well the wind up is, I started having nightmares about difficult to find bar codes. If you went off your route, sometimes they have been moved from where they were supposed to be. Or you would run into them where you didn't expect. So in my dreams, they were at the end of these elaborate obstacle courses, some of them underground requiring a flashlight, and low-crawling. LOL!

Another related one was, in the dream, didn't get out of the Office until about 2 PM, and you look back inside the truck and it's full of mail. The whole route. Hurry!!

I have a "buying a house" dream. And it's this same weird house on a corner lot. It's got a screened-in porch all the way around it, and it's two stories, plus a big attic, and there's a pipe organ in the attic. And the house is a disaster; the carpet is all cut wrong--by at least a foot--the doors don't match, the drywall is crumbling where there isn't random sections of wallpaper holding it up.....

And my realtor won't call me back, and I'm tired of waiting, so I'm moving my stuff in even though I haven't actually bought the place, even though I should have closed on it months ago.

I've never lived in a house with any of those features, especially not a church organ I can't play. And I've had this dream on several occasions, well back into my childhood, before I could even buy a house.

Dreams are your brain's way of reminding you that consciousness is the only thing keeping you sane. If I spend 20 years in a coma, I'll wake up stark raving mad.

I have house dreams, not so much about buying. I start out at some house that I know in real life. Go into one room and there's a hallway I never saw before, or secret entrance to another room, or a new staircase. And it just keeps going into endless different rooms or levels getting more bizarre as you go.

When I was stuck in dead end jobs, I'd dream I was on Escher-like staircases always going up or down but getting nowhere, and can't find a way out of the stairwell.

I am a light sleeper, and dream very vividly, often surreally. I don't often remember much from the dreams, except "that was fucking weird."

Even more weird, is I'll get up to whiz, then kind of drift back into the same dream.

the ones that get me most are the ones where my late dad or sister is there. or the ones where I need to tell my wife that I'm gonna be late, but my phone is all jacked up. Or where I need to get somewhere, but the building keeps shifting.

My brain might be broken.

Go into one room and there's a hallway I never saw before, or secret entrance to another room, or a new staircase. And it just keeps going into endless different rooms or levels getting more bizarre as you go.

When I was stuck in dead end jobs, I'd dream I was on Escher-like staircases always going up or down but getting nowhere, and can't find a way out of the stairwell.

I once had a recurring dream that was scary with nothing being scary in it and to break the cycle I defined reasons for all the odd things in it and it never happened.

I used to fall asleep reading a book and dream I was on the couch reading that book so I knew it was a dream since the words I read in the dream weren't in the book.

Turned out the Prof had somehow missed turning in my grade when i took it as a night class. Luckily I had the blue test booklets from the semester, and it got solved.

I always figured that was the source of a few decades of dreams related to not being ready for a final, or not knowing I was even in a class.

Turns out there's lots of us with that same subconscious anxiety.

I never figured that out. I think my dreams were part treasure hunt. Usually empty deserted houses, big houses. Sometimes its nice houses with hidden run down unused areas. Sometimes its big houses needing work, but its mine, and I'm usually excited. even when a whole corner looks like a 1000lb bomb erases it and you can see the sky. I haven't had any of those dreams since I moved a few years ago...to a bigger house....that I needed to renovate/update. Hmmm...

256 DJ - It's actually pretty grim for the Democrats.

We talk about this election being critical for us, well it is critical for them as well. It could very well be an extinction level event for whichever party loses.

Dems win, they will tear the country apart of make sure they rule over the gnawed bones of whatever is left. We know that.

But if they lose, they have a terrible demographic problem. They have been relying on the fraud and ballot harvesting for so many cycles they have not noticed that they aren't attracting new voters. There is a massive division in voting tendencies of Blacks over 50 and under 50. As the years go on, they are losing their voting bloc, and aren't replacing them.

This is why they need the illegals so much, they need a new bloc of victims to grift off of, because they forgot to grow their base.

As they tumbled and flew the leaves and twigs jumbled in the air, interrupting the sun's rays down through the trees. The crow fought bravely for it's meal, but at last, it gave way and left its treat to the squirrel. I couldn't believe a crow would give way to a squirrel for a much needed meal. I couldn't believe a squirrel would fight so hard for a mouse. I didn't even know squirrels eat meat.

I hiked back to camp. I told my wife what I had just seen. She looked at me with a skeptical, but purposefully sly smirk. I realized at that point that the large handful of mushrooms I had eaten for breakfast may have influenced my interpretation of the events that morning.

271 I have had a dream several times where my parents are still alive and I am visiting them. They live in what seems to be a converted auto service center in an area of the town where I grew up where the architecture immediately places it. In this building my dad has many cars parked from the 50s and 60s. Funny thing is my dad would have never collected cars and only liked pre WW2 cars. We never lived in that area and they would have never bought a service station. But the dream feels very detailed and realistic.

This time the interesting thing is what happens afterwards if they claim a win.
